The property

Tiverton 4.3 miles.

Valley House, a grand, detached house, is situated on the banks of the canal in Halberton at the end of a no-through lane.

With its private waterside setting, it is a fabulous place to relax and watch the world go by on the water and towpath.

From the porch, head through to the oak-fitted kitchen with its little breakfast table for morning coffees, a well-equipped room for preparing family meals to enjoy in the dining room whilst you observe the canal life.

For sitting comfortably, you have a choice of the sitting room with its glass door to slide open to the garden, or the conservatory with comfy seats.

For anyone who doesn't want to tackle the stairs there is one ground-floor twin bedroom and a bathroom, or head upstairs to four more bedrooms with some lovely views of the canal and the Blackdown Hills.

The children will love the games room which doubles as an optional bedroom for alternative sleeping.

The garden is private with lawns, a terrace, a summer house, and a gate to a charming seating area with picnic benches beside the towpath.

Needless to say, a barge trip on the Grand Western Canal is a must, or why not bring your own boats to launch at Sampford Peverell and moor them outside the house?

You can fish outside with a licence and golf and boat, canoe and bicycle hire are available locally.

North and South coasts make easy day trips or explore Exmoor and Somerset from this central location.

For those eager to explore, the charming town of Tiverton offers a variety of attractions to discover, starting with the historical Tiverton Castle and the fascinating Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life, where you can learn about the area's rich heritage.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Old Railway Line Walking and Cycle Path provides scenic routes for walking and cycling, while the stunning National Trust property of Knightshayes Court showcases beautiful gardens and parkland for a leisurely stroll.

Thrill-seekers will love Diggerland Devon, where you can get behind the controls of real construction machinery for a unique experience.

Tiverton is set on the banks of the Great Western Canal in central mid Devon. A town rich with history and heritage with a thriving town centre hosting a popular farmers market every third Wednesday. Visit Tiverton Castle a royal fortress commissioned in 1106, or enjoy walks along the tow path of the Grand Western Canal, originally built to transport lime and where today you can take a trip on one of the iconic horse drawn barges, a perfect way to discover the beauty and wildlife along the canal. For those who enjoy cycling the the canal provides an easy 8-mile cycle ride between Tiverton and the Somerset border, ideal for all ages. Explore the rolling hills and moorland of Exmoor National Park, just a short distance away and perfect for exploring on two wheels. National Trust Knightshayes is worthy of a visit, particularly the walled garden and has some wonderful walks within the grounds.
