Description

Sammy Hakes Cottage is set within the appealing coastal town of Watchet, Somerset, and offers a retreat for couples looking to enjoy time by the sea.

The cottage is an agglomeration of 3 different eras.

The oldest part of the cottage dates back to the 1600's and was reputedly lived in by a woman and her son, Sammy Hake, who was a 'Hobbler'.

There is a book in the cottage about the history of Sammy Hakes Cottage.

The bedroom area was built in the mid-late 1800's and was used as an office & meeting place for the hobblers.

The 3rd agglomeration was added in 1938, just before the outbreak of the 2nd World War.

It was and still is a lookout tower over the channel and features a decommissioned air raid siren on top of it.

There are beautiful views over the harbour and lighthouse, where you can watch both sunset and sunrise (from different parts of the property).

The property is arranged over two floors in a reverse-level layout, making the most of the living space and creating a pleasant setting for a break.

Outside, a private patio provides a useful spot for sitting out with a morning drink or relaxing after a day spent exploring the coastline and harbour.

On the ground floor, guests will find a well-presented double bedroom with a stable door leading out onto the patio.

Stairs lead up to the first floor, where an open-plan living area brings together the kitchen, dining and sitting spaces.

The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing meals at home, while the dining area is well-suited to relaxed breakfasts or evening suppers.

The sitting area provides a comfortable place to unwind, complete with a TV for quieter nights in.

There is a neatly finished shower room featuring a walk-in shower, offering comfort and convenience.

Watchet’s beach, harbour and town centre are all within easy walking distance, allowing guests to explore without needing to use the car.

The town has a welcoming atmosphere, with a selection of independent shops, cafés and traditional pubs, which includes the multi-award-winning Pebbles Tavern that has live music and locally sourced real ales and ciders.

There are also attractions such as Watchet Harbour, the Boat Museum and the Market House Museum.

The West Somerset Coast Path passes nearby, offering scenic walking routes with views across the Bristol Channel and along the rugged coastline.

A short drive brings you to the traditional seaside town of Minehead, known for its long promenade, sandy beach and range of family-friendly attractions.

The surrounding area also provides easy access to Exmoor National Park, where dramatic moorland, wooded valleys and quiet villages such as Porlock and Dunster invite exploration.

Dunster Castle, with its historic grounds and medieval village, is another popular place to visit.

Sammy Hakes Cottage offers a comfortable and well-located base for discovering the coastal scenery, historic towns and varied landscapes that make this part of Somerset so appealing.
