Muirmailing Cottage

We had a wonderful time at Muirmailing Cottage.

We stayed for seven nights and found it to be a lovely, spacious, and comfortable cottage in a beautiful location. It had everything we could possibly need. The owners, Wendy and Graham, were very friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for easy access to Stirling, while Edinburgh and Glasgow, along with other major centres in central Scotland, are less than an hour away. We would happily stay here again.

Muirmailing cottage was absolutely perfect for us!

The accommodation was clean, comfy and very well equipped. Wendy was friendly, helpful and thoughtful, bringing us a parasol when the weather was extremely sunny and checking we'd found the fans. The location is absolutely beautiful! We arrived to skylarks and house martins, saw bats and a hare, and were made very welcome by the cat. It is in beautiful countryside with stunning views, but close to a little village and only a 15 minute drive to Falkirk or Stirling. We were able to catch the train to Edinburgh, and I'm sure the same could be done if you wished to explore Glasgow. Lots in the local area to explore too. Stirling castle was extremely good. We would highly recommend this property, and would book it again without a second thought!

Muirmailing Cottage is an idyllic little oasis in the midst of the beautiful countryside.

Wendy and Graham are exceptional hosts. I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a visit to Scotland.

Our stay at Muirmailing Cottage was excellent.

It is a fantastic base to use to visit Edinburgh or Glasgow (we went easily by train from Falkirk High - don't even try Croy as it is a parking black hole from which you will never escape). The cottage is beautifully presented, has everything you need, as well as a truly welcoming and low key host in Wendy. The area is quiet, peaceful and very easy to access from the M9. Highly recommended.

The cottage is well located in terms of exploring both the local and wider area, as it is adjacent to the motorway and rail network.

So is an ideal base for anyone visiting Scotland's central belt /Perthshire The property was roomy and well organised : covered porch for wet clothing/muddy shoes Downstairs Toilet shower as well as Toilet/shower/bath on the first floor. The owners where very helpful in terms of advising how to get the best out of the local area. Walks/Shops/Supermarkets etc. Basically can't fault the Cottage facilities/Amenities. a very enjoyable Holiday

Unfortunately on arrival the shower mats were really dirty, as was the downstairs shower tray, which we had to clean before use.

.made the owner aware of this. She provided clean shower mats... The owner uses cleaners who to all intents and purposes are not doing a good job! We made the owner aware, she was very good and took steps to deal with it. The furniture could be more comfortable!! Bed linen and towels were good quality and clean. Overall the beds and general furniture could all do with an update. Cooker needed cleaning!! In reality the cottage was roomy and very spacious but needs a bit of an upgrade and some TLC. Bit tired and jaded.... In fairness I don't think it is necessary to publish this review but the owner should be made aware we feel.

We had an enjoyable week staying in Muirmailing Cottage.

It has all the home comforts you'd need for a pleasant stay. The cottage is ideally located for local attractions such as Stirling, Falkirk Wheel, The Kelpies and trips further afield to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

This is a well equipped and spacious cottage for up to four people.

We were very impressed by the supportive beds and all the things that really matter - showers, oven, hob etc were of a good quality and worked well. The heat pump based system that warms the property was initially a tad confusing but works well enough at the times that matter to most people. Supplementary heating is available if you need it (if for example you are up and about in the early hours). Owner Wendy is friendly and helpful, responding quickly to any queries. The location is great for easy access to Stirling, and all major centres of Central Scotland, including Edinburgh and Glasgow, are less than an hour away. We would happily stay here again.

Muirmailing Cottage was a pleasure to stay in.

It was very well equipped and furnished. The views were wonderful from the dormer windows. We witnessed spectacular sunrises with amazing colours and watched the Swifts building nests and darting everywhere. The local area has lots of things to visit - a favourite with us was The Kelpies.The scenery was beautiful. The owners were very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely return!

The location is perfect for exploring Stirling, Falkirk and the surrounding area. Wendy the owner was great, she was very welcoming and on hand when needed. We had a lovely time staying in this lovely cottage.

The owners are very friendly and helpful with getting around the area and Scotland. The postcode takes you to the crossroads where you need to go about 200 yards further up the hill it is then on the right.

We enjoyed sitting in the sun outside on the first evening. The cottage was very comfortable and just what we were looking for. It was nice to feel part of a working farm. Lovely quiet location with a nice walk to the country park and easy access to Loch Lomond, Stirling and the Falkirk attractions. Very enjoyable stay.

From the moment we stepped over the threshold of this lovely cottage we felt totally at home.

It was impeccably clean, very well equipped and furnished and Wendy was on hand to make us welcome. The cottage is situated in a great location for visiting the surrounding area and we enjoyed meeting the animals around the farm. We just wished we could have stayed longer!

We had a wonderful two and a half weeks at Muirmailing Cottage.

It is one of the best places we have ever rented, so comfortable and well-equipped. Even though it got as low as -5 degrees the cottage felt cosy. Wendy was always on hand to answer any questions, and was very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Thoroughly recommended!

This was probably the best holiday property that we've stayed in !

It lacked absolutely nothing as far as facilities go, it was super clean, and our hosts were attentive and welcoming. There were even swallows and martins nesting close by - really great.

This cottage is immaculate, with stunning views from the bedroom windows, the owners are lovely and extremely helpful.

Their pets are a delight too. It is easy to find and located perfectly for trips to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk and Stirling, with easy links to the motorway. Lots to do in the area, castles, parks and monuments. I would recommend to anyone and if we go back to the area I would book there again. Totally fantastic place.

Great location with loads of restaurants, activities and walks within 15 - 30 minutes drive and very welcoming hosts. Highly recommended..

We enjoyed our week and everything was great apart from the builders working on the other half of the barn conversion.

Mrs. Scott apologised for the over running works as they should've already been completed. Lots of dust and noise and we weren't able to sit outside in the small front garden area. Other than that, fantastic accomodation.

Excellent, comfortable accommodation and friendly, very helpful owners. Plenty of information in the property about local attractions within easy reach. We were lucky enough to have wonderful weather. We managed to fit in a visit to the Kelpies. Falkirk Wheel, Stirling Castle, Wallace Memorial, Dunblane Cathedral and a 2 hour cruise on Loch Lomond (I think the 2 hour one is much better than the shorter one, which doesn't go around the interesting islands). Good easy walking close by in the Plean Country Park. The only negative about the area is that Stirling is currently full of road works with diversions, making navigation difficult. Property strongly recommended !

Absolutely beautiful and homely cottage with lovely hosts that made us feel very welcome.

We were all sad to have to leave but the kids were very sad to have to say goodbye to Wendy, as well as Sylvester the cat. We will definitely be going back.

The owners Wendy and Graham were very helpful with local information and allowing my 4 year old to play with their cat and pat their pony. Cottage was very comfortable, clean and warm. All you needed to bring was food and drink. Would highly recommend.

In a lovely quiet rural spot but easy travelling distance to many attractions and amenities.

We really loved the cottage and the hosts were absolutely super.

Inside of cottage was lovely - clean, warm, bright, well equipped and really comfortable. Outside the cottage there is a small, pretty garden which fronts on to a working stables and plant nursery - this did not worry us as we come from farming backgrounds but obviously a working landscape rather than a domestic garden. The scenery around the site is lovely. One would definitely need a car but really well located for reaching tourist attractions.

Amazing stay at Wendy & Graham’s lovely farm.

The place is stunning & the photos dont quite do it justice! Perfectly located inbetween Glasgow & Edinburgh for exploring and close to Stirling & Stenhousemuir for shops & restaurants. We stayed for 5 nights and had enough space and comfort for 4 adults and a baby with a highchair, cot & baby gates provided which were a big help! Thoroughly recommend staying and we hope to be back next time we are north of the border. Thank you!

Muirmailing Cottage is one of the best cottages we’ve ever stayed in (and we have stayed in lots over the years).

The cottage was lovely, comfortable and very well-equipped. You could tell a lot of careful thought had gone into the facilities and equipment. The owners, who live on the same site, were friendly and helpful but not intrusive, and we enjoyed the lovely setting complete with a beautiful flower garden, and the company of their friendly dogs and cat. Although the location was very peaceful and rural, there are plenty of interesting places to visit within a very easy driving distance, from Edinburgh and Glasgow, Falkirk, Linlithgow and Stirling to the lochs and mountains of the Trossachs. We had a wonderful week and definitely hope to return.

Located in a lovely rural area on a farm, easy access to Stirling and Falkirk and beyond. Very spacious, very clean and the photos are absolutely accurate. I would happily rent this cottage for a long term if I lived in the area. Wendy was helpful and a great host. We really loved our stay.

The cottage is very clean and is very well equipped, we were short of nothing and the owner is very friendly. This was our second stay here and I'm sure it won't be our last.

It is beautifully equipped with all possible fixtures and fittings. The setting is so peaceful and quiet - Covid seems to be miles away. The owners are welcoming and at hand with advice and local knowledge. We have been to a number of cottages in many different places but none have been as good as Muirmailing. We will certainly be returning in the not too distant future.

The cottage is in an ideal location to explore large parts of what Scotland has to offer.

We were able to get to both the west and east coasts, edge of the Highlands, Loch Lomond and the historic sites around Stirling. The cottage itself had everything we needed for allow us to relax comfortably and the owners were friendly and helpful including their dogs and cats. We would certainly stay there again when visiting the area.

Our second Sykes' cottage booking this year - this last minute break did not disappoint.

A lovely cottage that has been thoughtfully renovated and designed. Lots of space, the kitchen and dining room were both really nice and the lounge was equally good - very comfy sofas! The downstairs shower room was well equipped and modern and the upstairs bathroom was also very smart. The 2 bedrooms were large with good sized beds. Lots of storage space for everything we took with us. The cottage had everything anyone would need. We took our own towels and used our own condiments/foil/cling film/cooking oil etc, but we didn't need to, the kitchen drawers and cupboards had so many items for people to use. We ate in at night, as we were out every day - it was nice and relaxing to be in MuirMailing for a week away. Wendy was lovely, very helpful -also really nice to see the ponies going out on the field when it wasn't too wet and the dogs were so well behaved. A really great place to stay - 40 minutes from Edinburgh - lovely walks around Stirling Castle and Edinburgh, plus the country park nearby. Would highly recommend

The cottage is very well equiped with everything we needed (with some things not available because of covid - but only things which are nice extras - dvds, games) The wi-fi was very good, even with 3 people online.

The mobile signal on the 3 network was not very good but that was mentioned in the details of the cottage so expected. The showers were excellent. The beds were comfy, as was all the furniture. The kitchen is very well equiped. The cottage is very convenient for visiting Stirling, Falkirk, Glasgow and Edinburgh areas with lots of places of interest to visit within a reasonable distance. We would stay there again to visit the area and recommend it to family and friends.

In a great location for touring so many places, our 2nd visit and still haven't seen everything within range! Wendy the owner is lovely, made us feel at home and not at all intrusive :) but there if we needed her 10 out of 10

Muirmailing cottage has everything you could need and more for a relaxing, comfortable holiday.

It is also very close to Stirling, shops and plenty of walks. Plean country park is just down the road and it is well worth spending a couple of hours there. Wendy was eager to make sure everything was as we wanted it and I'm sure would have acted straight away if anything wasn't right. Also, horses, cats, dogs and plants to indulge your passion for nature. Would happily stay here again.

Really nice cottage in a nice quiet location with lovely views of the hills and mountains to the North & East. Cottage very well appointed and felt really homely. Only regret is that we could only manage a short stay, when a week or two would have been perfect. Well positioned for the shops in Stirling and well situated to major roads to head down to Edinburgh or Glasgow or head north to the Trossachs and Highlands. Quite fancy going back some time in the not distant future. Many thanks to Wendy & Graham for a lovely stay.

In these times it is not easy to relax in your holidays.

but we had a great stay in wendy's muirmailing cottage and will be back someday. The house is perfect for small familys even with baby's!

This is a beautiful cottage to stay in and in an excellent spot for exploring Scotland.

We were staying mainly as our daughter was getting married nearby at Glenskirlie castle on Sunday! The cottage is a good size for 4 people, had everything you needed,was comfortable and very clean. The owner Wendy is friendly and helpful if you need anything during your stay. We will definitely be returning to Muirmailing cottage in the future.

when we arrived we thought it had only just been opened it is like a showhouse ,everything looks brand new ,enough information about the local area plus all off Scotland to keep any visitor happy .

The cottage was very clean, homely and comfortable.

The chocolates and shortbread provided on arrival was a very thoughtful touch. Everything we needed was there and very thorough information on the property and local sites to see. Nicely placed near local amenities and easy access for days out. Our hosts were lovely and went out of their way to help us when we needed it and was very much appreciated. We enjoyed our time spent here and would love to come back again.

What an outstanding cottage!

Absolutely everything was perfect - it was beautifully appointed, stunning views, with a very warm welcome from the cottage owner. We are ‘Outlander’ (books and tv series) fans, and the location was perfect for touring the area. We visited several filming locations which actually took us to castles, palaces, villages etc. we may have ordinarily overlooked. A thoroughly enjoyable week with our friends from America, even the weather was kind to us. Don’t hesitate in choosing Muirmailing Cottage for your holiday - you will not be disappointed!

The home was bright airy, beautiful view, especially from the upstairs bedrooms, which were spacious clean, by far exceeded our expectations. The owner of the cottage couldn't do enough for us, as far as suggestions for worth seeing areas, directions, even helped us with a dilemma regarding another booking a week later.. She went above and beyond. We loved the farm atmosphere, the owner was a champ with the animals, absolutely nothing we could say remotely negative. We give this a 10 plus.... best cottage we have ever rented, and we've rented quite a few in Europe. Thanks Wendy, you were a champ, and you were so very helpful in all respects. The four of us loved the stay.

Felt a little overlooked by the owners due to the property being located in between their house and driveway which meant having to pull blinds down constantly to ensure privacy.

Despite this, the cottage was beautiful and in such a great location for exploring Scotland.
