Durdans, Walberswick

We had a perfect long weekend at this superb property in Walberswick, celebrating two family birthdays.

The extensive garden was wonderful and we particularly enjoyed watching the Muntjac. Within easy walking distance of all the local amenities, including The Black Dog Deli. Enjoyed a great evening meal at The Anchor. House was clean, soacious and very well equipped. Highly recommended. Oh, you must try the cod & chips at the Sole Bay Fish Company!

Durdans is in a very peaceful setting, with a common opposite, and a beautiful garden.

We spotted deer, rabbits and lots of birds. The house is very comfortable and has a homely feel to it. We were all reminiscing about having a radio like the one in the lounge, or clock radios, like in the bedroom. Nowadays our phones double for everything, it seems!. There was plenty of crockery and utensils provided and we enjoyed a couple of meals around the lovely old kitchen table. We retired to the lovely lounge and played board games or just chatted over a glass of wine. The weather was nice enough to sit outside for a little while and we all said it would be a perfect place in the summer, for outside entertaining. Walberswick is a charming village, lots of interesting walks and a bird hide for bird watchers. We would certainly consider rebooking if we came back to the area.

We had a most enjoyable stay despite the awful weather.

The accommodation was spacious and well equipped, and the location was ideal for sightseeing er Sutton Hoo, Southwold etc. I would thoroughly recommend this property. NB the garden was beautiful - we had rabbits, deer and numerous birds visiting. It would be idyllic in the summer.

Wonderful large house to accommodate five adults.

Clean, comfortable and very quiet. Really appreciated the welcome gifts and Christmas decorations. Hope to return in a summer period.

The week we have just enjoyed at Durdans certainly made us feel very relaxed, very interesting house offering plenty of space in an amazing garden in a super quiet location but not isolated.

Perfect for walks on the heath or down to the beach. Although we were only two people enjoying the stay Durdans this house would be perfect for families. Well equipped offering home from comfort we would highly recommend.

Second stay at Durdans this year.

Love the space inside and out. Lots of areas to congregate or spend some time quietly reading or listening to music. Perfect position on the edge of the heath and a short stroll to the beach and pubs. Watching the sunset on the beach every morning absolutely the best start to the day. Black dog deli and the new look Tuck shop are such a fab asset to the village. We will definitely return to Durdans as a couple or with family.

In our opinion it was the perfect holiday home ; spacious, characterful, beautifully decorated and appointed, an extensive garden and ideally located , just a few minutes walk from the village centre . I can wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone wishing for a tranquel break in what for me is one of England’s most beautiful villages by the sea.

We stayed at Durdans for a 3 generation family holiday and had a great time.

The property is spacious with a large kitchen and 2 sitting rooms and we liked the fact that the bedrooms were effectively in different wings of the house ( so I didn’t hear the baby crying in the night!). The garden is great with both sunny areas and shade throughout the day and we enjoyed eating outside. The coast is an easy walk away and the village pubs, small shop and cafe by a play area meant we didn’t need to go far. We hope to come back another year.

Very spacious and well appointed house in ideal position for our interests in walking and birdwatching.

We never needed to use our cars during our 4 night stay. We enjoyed hearing the nightingales 100yds from the front door and meals in the Bell and the Anchor in the village. The glass jug of the cafetière was missing when we arrived but another cafetière was delivered to us the next day. We didn’t cook but noted there isn’t much cupboard space in the kitchen for storing food.

family and friends came some stayed and some just visited for the day - the house has a wonderful homely feel. The garden is huge with so many little areas to explore. The house is situated on the edge of heath walk so close the bridge over to southwold and perfect for walks to the pubs and sea in walberswick. So quiet with deer in visiting every day along with a fox once.

Super stay!

Fabulous location and gorgeous house. Beautiful gardens. Everything very well maintained and thought through. Excellent quality of accommodation. Bring additional logs if you want to have a fire straight away as house was cold when we arrived (had driven through a snow storm!) Can walk to the pub/ coast etc and fabulous bakery/ deli in the village. Would highly recommend.

We have returned to Durdans for a few years now, just because it is perfect for our needs.

Its position is ideal, close to Southwold, we park the cars and walk everywhere. The house and gardens are amazing, perfect for the dog. We will, no doubt, return again next year.

Had a super Christmas stay at Durdans .

It is a beautiful house in a wonderful location. The house was clean and well equipped and the Christmas decorations and tree were lovely. We had everything we needed for our festive break, including a fantastically generous welcome pack including lots of goodies from the local deli . We will definitely stay again .

Having been regular - one might even say loyal - customers at Durdans for several years now we are sad to find the standard of maintenance leaves more and more to be desired.

Nearly all of the fridge door shelves are now broken, as they have been for at least 2 years, so it is impossible to keep a bottle of milk in the fridge. The Venetian blinds in the en-suite bathroom don’t work and the curtains in the master bedroom need rehanging. The drain outside the kitchen is blocked so the waste water from the sink just flows out onto the drive. None of these are serious deficiencies (although not being able to keep milk in the fridge is seriously annoying!) but they do make Durdans feel rather unloved, and its guests accordingly rather underappreciated . We also arrived to find no tea towels and no oven gloves (we had to go and buy a pair of oven gloves, and fortunately we brought our own tea towels as there are never enough, but to find none at all is really not on). With a heavy heart, I think we may be moving on next year.

We had concerns in relation to previous comments re cleanliness but this was no issue whatsoever.

The family had a great stay and we would recommend the property. Our only comment would be we spent the whole week in the lovely kitchen due to the standard of the sofa in the lounge. We had a great stay but feel it may be time to upgrade the lounge seating to make it more welcoming. A great house, perfect location, would recommend. Thank you

The property has the potential to be a 4 star as published however our party of 6 were extremely disappointed with the overall cleanliness which would reduce our overall rating to 2 star i.

e. Dead flies under the bread bin , oven not cleaned internally , fridges and freezers not cleaned internally , Dog hairs over soft furnishings in Lounge . Also in particular, the cushions of the sofas in the main lounge either need replacing or at the very least a deep clean as there was an unpleasant 'musty' smell that pervaded the ground floor even after we had aired the property, hoovered everywhere , dusted the hard surfaces and sprayed febreze on the soft furnishings. None of this made for a relaxing holiday !

Perfect house in a perfect position for all the main attractions like southwold, long dog walks and excellent pubs.

Quiet, relaxing and didn’t drive the car for the whole 5 days. 2nd time we’ve stayed at durdans and we will definitely be staying again and recommending.

Very well equipped house which comfortably accommodated our party of 3 generations.

The large kitchen dinner provided a wonderful social space. Great supply of games, books etc. The property has extensive well maintained grounds.
