Portland Cottage

We had a great break in a lovely cosy cottage.

There were just the two of us ,so we had plenty of room. Loved the proximity to the sea and actually swam several times. Have stayed in Sovereign Harbour many times so it was just a short walk to access the Marina. Also easy access to the prom. Thank you for the generous welcome pack especially the decaff coffee sachets. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and we will no doubt book again sometime next Year.

Portland cottage was superb.

The location is excellent, being close to Sovereign Harbour. The house was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The owner left a welcome gift of tea, coffee, milk, cake and a bottle of Prossecco. I would highly recommend this property.

Great place and location with all we needed.

The only issue we had was the inner door was sticking badly, so it was difficult to lock.

Quite a way out of Eastbourne but bus nearby if you can't walk that far. Large picturesque marina nearby for shops and restaurants. Enjoyed our stay, especially walking at Beachy Head and Seven Sisters.

A great little home for a week, in a very quiet location close to Sovereign Harbour yet only a few minutes' drive from the town centre too.

Easy access to Hastings, Brighton, Battle, Dungeness, Rye etc and there are many good restaurants and pubs in the area. There is a comprehensive information pack in the property, plus some treats in the fridge to welcome us, which were a lovely touch. The owners contacted us on the morning of our arrival to let us know we could have earlier access, which was very helpful in planning our travel. The inner front door has a quirk in that it doesn't unlock easily- you have to pull it towards you to complete the turn of the key. It's very well-equipped for a short stay, though a couple of fans would be welcome for the summer months as the beds are fitted with very soft, warm mattress toppers, and the curtains/ blinds could do with a black-out layer for better sleep. Propping the door open each evening allowed us a glimpse of the local fox on her way to the bin store, and on one memorable occasion she poked her head into the porch and stole my sandal! There is also a fabulously friendly little cat you'll meet nearby, and we spotted a seal in the harbour.

Did not realise it was on a modern estate, my mistake.

It was easy walking distance to the beach but a good 45 min walk into Eastbourne and the bars and eateries were about 20 min. The property was very comfortable

Portland Cottage was welcoming and well looked after.

The beds were super comfy and the appliances first class. The area is lovely and quiet and Eastbourne is within easy reach. It was great to have allocated parking spaces and also excellent communication from the owner. We would definitely return.

We were most impressed with the accommodation from the moment we entered for the first time to the time we left.

Superb layout and situated in pleasant area. We would not hesitate to book this cottage if we decided to visit this area of Sussex again and it was available

We have had such a great stay at Portland Cottage.

The property was just perfect for the two of us. Spotlessly clean and beautifully presented with local pictures on the walls. Very cosy with everything we needed for our short break near the sea. Lovely welcome treats waiting for us on arrival. The area the cottage is in is quiet, the locals are friendly as is the fluffy cat who greeted us everyday. We will definitely make this our go to property the next time we are in the Eastbourne/Pevensey area.

Excellent accommodation with comfortable bedrooms.

The bathroom has easy to use equipment with clear instructions for shower/bath use and safety handhold which enabled easy access. The lounge and kitchen had everything needed with great instructions. The location was superb with easy walking access to the harbour and eating facilities and we enjoyed trips to Great Dixter Garden, Rye and Eastbourne front together with Sheffield Park National Trust property with lovely Autumn colours; an ideal base. Parking was also ideal. Top notch and had a fabulous stay.

We appreciated the welcoming touches after a long journey.

The cottage is very comfortable and homely. The bed is extremely comfortable and all the linens of a good quality. The parking is very easy and the neighbours all warm and friendly. We had a super week exploring the area. Especially recommend South Downs centre and walk down the Cuckmere valley easily accessed via the 12X bus which ends in Brighton after a spectacular route along the coast and downs.

Needs a more comfortable sette to relax on after a long day sight seeing. Quite area.easy access to bus. Nice walk along sea front nearby.Nice friendly people in the area and around town.would stay again.

Portland Cottage is a great place to stay if you want a relaxing holiday in the Eastbourne area.

We think it is ideal for 2 people and we found it had everything we needed in the way of kitchen appliances. We also liked the very clean and well appointed bathroom and the smart TV in the lounge diner was a real bonus. We may look to make a return visit if we want to have another holiday in this area.

Excellent property, exactly as it says on Web site, could not fault it, clean, comfortable, and well situated for amenities.

Very clean and well equipped. Just the job for the two of us. Great to have two dedicated parking places and only a short walk to the prom. Supermarkets, Toby Carvery and Pizza Hut very close to hand. Bus stop just opposite The Portlands with frequent No5 to town.

A wonderful clean and comfortable holiday home for myself, husband and our son.

Great location and such a plus that it has safe, private parking. It's a really good base to explore the coastline and countryside and there are some lovely restaurants nearby.

Ideally situated near an assortment of restaurants in nearby Sovereign Harbour, a 15 minute walk.

45 minute walk into Eastbourne. Shops and restaurants nearby. The house is very compact but well furnished. The beds are comfy.

An excellent holiday house.

Quite small but very warm, cosy and well equipped. Easy parking right outside. A bit of a walk into Eastbourne (45 minutes) but it’s along the seafront so very pleasant. The neighbours have a friendly and very fluffy cat. We also saw foxes and seals! Worth visiting nearby Alfriston, Lewes, Hastings, Bexhill-on-sea and Birling Gap. Definitely recommended for a seaside holiday.

This is a very comfortable beautiful holiday home.

Very well equipped with everything you need. Lovely location for Sovereign harbour marina as it is within walking distance. Two allocated parking spaces and bus stop at the end of the road so very convenient. Large shed for storing bikes etc. Would definitely recommend.

The property had everything we needed and was very clean.

The bottle of Prosecco and carrot cake were nice welcome gifts. The kitchen was very well equipped. Also having a fire stick for watching catch up was a nice bonus. The location was good with a 10 minute walk to Asda and other shops. Plus whole area was well served by local buses. Having our own parking space ( in fact we had 2) is something we always look for. The house was in a quiet area..

This is a fantastic cottage, probably the best that we have ever stayed in.

Everything is immaculately clean, the equipment is of a really good standard and the location is superb. We especially loved the rain shower! Thank you for the lovely welcome gifts too.

We very much enjoyed our stay in the property.

It is compact but there's plenty of storage space. It's clean and tidy and everything looks new(ish). There are two allocated parking spaces which was important to me - when I retired I spent far more than I should have on a car and I am very particular (paranoid according to my wife) where I park it. The shower is amazing and easy to use. I am not sure I can describe it adequately - you have to see it for yourself really. We ate out every night at the Sovereign Harbour which is about 15 minutes walk at a reasonable pace. There's loads of choice including Indian, Thai, Turkish, Italian, Mediterranean, Kebab/burger/fish and chips, and a Harvester. I can definitely recommend the Indian and Turkish restaurants. There is also a pub which is a sports bar which is very lively. This suited us but might not be everyone's cup of tea. Eastbourne is a little further away than we were comfortable walking so we used the local bus service. Fortunately there is a bus stop only about 50 yards from the property where you can catch the number 5A service. Unfortunately the service is not very frequent and on two occasions a bus was cancelled leaving us to wait another 30 minutes. You can take other services (3 or 4 different services in all I think so quite frequent) but these go to and from the supermarket just beyond that Sovereign Harbour restaurant area so it's about a 20 minute walk each way. Other than the cancelation mentioned, the services seem quite good and on time. Our bus passes from our home town of Gloucester worked and so we were able to travel free of charge. We have no plans to go back to Eastbourne because there are so many other places to visit but if we did we would happily book this property again.

Beautiful property, spotlessly clean and well equipped.

Great having use of the washer/drier too. Neighbours really friendly. Very quiet & peaceful, walking distance to the harbour where we actually saw seals! Weather was great too.

Portland Cottage is perfect for a holiday.

The location is ideal for access to the sea front and Sovereign Harbour. The property is extremely clean, comfortable and very well equipped. It is also in a quiet secluded close. We felt at home as soon as we walked in and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It is in a quiet, interesting situation, and the seafront and all amenities are within easy reach. The beds were very comfortable, which we really appreciated. Eastbourne is lovely. Highly recommended!

There was no visitors book in the property although a good selection of pamphlets were available.

Sometimes it is nice to look at previous guests comments which give recommendations as to places to visit. A lovely house to stay in.

The house is clean, comfortable and cosy and had everything we needed. John and Eileen were very attentive and were willing to help us when we had any questions. They left the porch light on for us when we told them we would be arriving after dark and we found prosecco and cake waiting for us in the fridge when we got there. And since the house is only a 10 minute drive from the town centre and only a 5 minute walk to the beach, why would anyone want to stay anywhere else? Thank you very much for a lovely time.

If you view it book it, you will be so pleased you did. A beautiful well presented house with everything you need. A 5 minute walk to the seafront which has a 5 mile promenade walk to beachy head wow. A 10 minute walk takes you to the fantastic marina with eateries pubs and shops. It's truly stunning. Excellent property and owners on hand if we needed anything.

Lovely little house which was very clean and very well equipped with regards to using the kitchen.

We always hire self catering properties and found this one probably the best especially with regards to cupboard storage space and everything needed for cooking. The location suited us and we found that we were easily able to get a bus into town (one per hour throughout the day) and free of course with our bus passes. We did use the car sometimes and the car parking charges were fair. A 15 minute to the marina where there were lots of places to drink and eat on the occasion we decided not to cook was nice and The Portlands was indeed a quiet area as mentioned in the property description.

Our property in eastbourne was very clean and welcoming in a quiet cul-de-sac.

The welcome pack of goodys left for us was most unexpected and a wonderful suprise, and we found the neighbours around us made us fill very much at home. I have no hesitation in looking forward to coming again very soon. So a big thank you to the property owners.

26 Portlands is a lovely property, and the owners have clearly put a lot of time and effort into catering for every possible need.

It was spotlessly clean inside and in a fantastic location, just a short walk from both the beachfront and Eastbourne Marina. The only possible addition would be a dishwasher instead of the washing machine, other than that everything was perfect. We appreciated the cake and bottle of bubbly that were waiting for us on arrival. Highly recommended.

Operation of the TV very frustrating

Spotlessly clean, comfortable and stylish the property is excellent. The beach and Sovereign Harbour within walking distance. Also plenty of shopping areas close by. Walking or cycling to Eastbourne was easy along the beach promenade. 26 Portlands offered everything we needed as it is thoughtfully equipped for a wonderful stay. The house was just right for us.

Care was obviously taken to ensure it was very clean and the welcome items were appreciated. It is only a very short walk from the sea. The overhead shower is brilliant!

This small house is very comfortable, clean and modern with everything we needed provided.

Especially liked the shower, comfy bed and modern kitchen. There are two good parking spaces.The position is great: near to the sea and a five mile long promenade. Also close by is a lovely harbour and marina with bars and restaurants. There are plenty of buses and trains from the town; every 10 minutes to Brighton or 20 minutes to Hastings. There are lots of places to visit by car. We also walked the spectacular Seven Sisters cliffs and Beachy Head. It makes a very good location for any time of the year. We felt welcome from the start by considerate hosts and neighbours. There was a generous welcome pack. Thank you for a lovely holiday!

We had the most enjoyable stay at The Portlands.

It was perfect for visiting the beach and the pier. We are thankful for the leaflets left giving us information about what we could enjoy in the area, enjoying days in Hastings and Knockhatch. The house was clean and had everything needed for our holiday, we particularly enjoyed the shower, especially after a run on the seafront in the morning. We had all facilities for cooking and washing and drying clothes, which was perfect! The neighbours were friendly and would often chat. Thank you so much for the cake and Prosecco! We hope to book with you again.

It was extremely clean and comfortable. Everything you could possibly need was provided by the owner and there were clear & concise instructions for the use of the house while we were there. Our stay here was just like being at home and the neighbours were very friendly & welcoming as well.

An absolutely wonderful time!

The house was perfect throughout our month long stay. The kitchen was well equipped and perfect for any meal we wanted to prepare. The living room was cozy and well decorated. Upstairs was also clean and tidy. Both bedrooms were lovely and had very comfy beds. The smaller room is a tad too small to walk around or place many belongings but with the amount of storage space in the main bedroom (and the top bunk), it was not a problem. Finally, the bathroom was great as well with a wonderful (and already much missed) rain shower in the ceiling. If pressed for any negatives, the only things we would say is that the water tank can make some noise in the night, and that the hot water didn't last all too long, but nothing too bad at all. Overall a wonderfuly comfortable stay and we hope to be back one day soon!

It would have been nice if there had been a teapot and a tin opener in the kitchen.

No indication that the crockery provided could be used in the microwave. It would have been nice to have a list of restaurants in the information pack. Apart from that, we had a lovely holiday and the neighbours were very friendly

A clean, compact house in a quiet housing complex.

The house is located a short walk away from the beach. It is about a two mile walk to the pier in Eastbourne via the promenade. A most enjoyable stay.

We found the sofa and armchair quite uncomfortable when sitting on them for any length of time ie watching TV during the evening.

Otherwise we were extremely happy with our stay at The Portlands and will certainly look to coming back for a stay. Thank you to John and Eileen.

The house is small but absolutely lovely.

It is very clean, contemporary and comfortable, with lots of modern conveniences; a really nice place to stay and come back to each day. It is in a lovely, quiet area, but close to everything we wanted to explore. We were made to feel very welcome by the home owners, who provided us with milk, chocolate cake and even prosecco! All very much appreciated. The locals in the neighbouring houses were also very polite and friendly, putting us at ease. It does have a hot water tank, so we needed to be careful we didn't use too much hot water before the last person showered. It would have been good to have a little bin in the bathroom as well.

Location great for the seaside and property matched description and expectations well.

Fixtures of high quality - shower, washing machine, wifi etc. We had a good week. Only real comments are that some simple additions provided would have made it more comfortable: -bins, needed at least one in the bathroom and a proper one in the kitchen -crockery, glassware not child friendly, some plastic cutlery cups and plates would have helped. -no clock in property -locks for outside storage (we didn't use this as a result.) -the back of the seating area downstairs visibly cheap and screws showing. -

Perhaps the owners could supply a potatoe peeler and a set of plastic children pltes but these are little things , we had a really good stay and the owners left us milk , bread and a lovely carrot cake which was great of them

Clean and neat.

Brand new sofa and carpet. Might be a good idea to have a blanket on the sofa and a rug under the dining table if families with young children like ours come to stay.Overall pleasant stay, very close to Eastbourne pier and short stroll to the Marina.
