Description

Glendale 2.3 miles.

Approached via a single track road and boasting picturesque views of The Minch, Outer Hebrides and pretty waterfalls is The Croft House, a detached former crofters house near the hamlet of Glendale on the Isle of Skye.

Find ample parking on the driveway, as well as an enclosed lawn garden, where you can first capture a glimpse of the wonderful sea views.

Step inside the property and kick off your shoes and hang your coats in the porch, before discovering a welcoming sitting room; Relax onto one of two sofas and enjoy a cosy night in with your favourite film as the open fire heats the room and adds to the cosy ambience, and the large bay window displays more of the spectacular views on offer.

The spacious and amply-equipped kitchen provides you with all the appliances you need to cook up a storm, while meals can be enjoyed together in the dining room beside the woodburning stove as you make plans for the remainder of your stay.

Catch up on rest in one of two bedrooms as you make your way upstairs to find a spacious king-size double and a twin, both of which offer stunning feature fireplaces and wonderful views, with shared access to the family bathroom, while the ground-floor shower room stops any morning queues and allows you to get ready in a hurry.

Enjoy sitting out in the enclosed back garden and enjoying lunch in the sunshine at the picnic table.

Head out and explore your surroundings, with the hamlet of Glendale just over two miles away offering a Post Office and convenience store, where you can stock up on any essentials, as well as a café.

Glendale is a wonderful place to observe wildlife, with bright and beautiful blooming flowers and the best chance on the island to observe migrating whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks offshore.

For a night off from cooking or to celebrate a special occasion, make a booking at Three Chimneys restaurant, which has ranked in the Top 100 restaurants in the UK.

A short car drive will bring you to the village of Dunvegan, which boasts a magnificent castle and gardens that has been the ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod for over 800 years.

For a day at the beach, Coral Beach is not too far from Dunvegan on Loch Dunvegan and is a secluded spot with tropical blue water that is great for surfing and other watersports, as well as seeing birdlife and seals, while at low tide you can walk over to Lampay island to explore.

Head to the western end of the island near Waterstein to find Neist Cliff Viewpoint and Lighthouse, which has stood on a rocky cliff top overlooking the coast and a causeway for over 100 years.

The Croft House is a wonderful base from which to explore the Isle of Skye.

This stay was one of the highlights of our trip.

The view and seclusion was amazing. Once I got used to the single lane roads, the driving wasn’t bad to get to and from the house. Although we were in a pretty remote area of Skye, it was not bad getting to other landmarks and seeing the sites. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
