Arrived a little early to the property but said we could wait about but the property was ready for us.
First impressions, wow! Great space. Booked for a large group for the GNR but unfortunately two people had to back out so had a massive property for 4 of us. Was great though. Definitely a good property for a large group of people. Close to the metro, 5 minute walk, and about a 10 minute walk to the ferry. Guys downstairs at the bar were really nice and helpful too. And it’s a great place to have a few drinks. The property itself, although great and spacious, was not clean. The sink in the en-suite was dirty, the sponge at the kitchen sink must’ve been used for a month already as it was disgusting and the complimentary bottles of shampoo etc were all empty. Considering you pay a cleaning charge, I’d expect better. We had tried to change the booking from two nights to one as one couple had to get back. When I phoned Sykes Cottages back in May to ask if that was a possibility, the person I spoke to was so incredibly unhelpful and abrupt. First time I’ve used Sykes, maybe would think twice about using them again.
The accommodation is exactly as listed - bedroom set up was perfect for a larger group and the kitchen/living space was brilliant.
We were a group of 4 adults and 3 kids that loved our stay. Really enjoyed cooking and eating at the island and the settee was big enough for all of us! Kitchen could do with more utensils - we found cooking a little difficult but loads of glasses though so you're good if you're just there to party. There were LOADS of bedding and towels. Location was great although pub downstairs was a bit noisy for the little ones bed time. There was an unforeseen problem with the water on one morning - we didnt have contact details for the property managers and Sykes were slow to respond but as soon as the property manager was aware, he called and was very helpful. Would highly recommend Chalet 86 - we had a brilliant weekend!!
Comfortable and spacious accommodation with everything you need.
Very near metro for Newcastle and a short walk to North Shields quay and some great pubs! We had a great stay at chalet 68.
