  • "A fabulous house, our third visit and booked again for 2026."

    Beautifully clean, warm and comfortable in an elevated position from the village overlooking fields and fells. The garden enjoys sun the whole day long. Our 3 dogs love it here ( 1 has to be kept on a lead as she will just clear the wall). Fabulous walks from the door in lovely countryside. If peace and quiet is what you want then Thistlewood House is for you.

  • "Thistlewood House is an amazing cottage in a beautiful location - overlooking farmland and stunning countryside, whilst being a walkable distance to Wolsingham with shops/pubs etc."

    , great walks in the area and places to visit like Durham, Raby Castle, Bishops Palace, Barnards Castle etc., and all within easy driving distance. Owners were very responsive when we had a minor issue with the washing machine. Overall, we loved it and felt it would be a perfect place to live!

  • "So glad we found Thistlewood House, what a very special place."

    Spent most of the week watching the buzzards and spotting all the many wildlife around the fields. The house is beautifully set up, clean and warm, big windows showing some spectacular sunsets. A lovely short walk down into the town with all its quirky lanes and beck when we weren't feeling too adventurous then back up the hill for a cuppa in the garden, perfect.

    The perfect setting & so peaceful. I am already planning when I can go back. Places to go if you want or, like me, the perfect place to chill out. The house is very welcoming so you feel at home straight away. Everything needed is there, apart from food of course. Once you've been once, you will want to go back again.

  • "Sorry for our late review We had a lovely and comfortable stay at this cozy cottage."

    The large rooms and comfortable beds made it feel like a home away from home. The surroundings were beautiful, and we especially enjoyed the cozy log burners, which added to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The secure garden was perfect for our dog, giving us peace of mind as he explored safely. It was also a delight to have a wee cat visitor stop by—it kept Ollie amused The location was ideal for visiting nearby attractions and exploring the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, we had to leave earlier than planned due to bad weather, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time and would love to return.

    This fabulous property in its elevated location was perfect with gorgeous views. The listing was totally accurate. The property was warm, beautifully furnished and immaculately clean. The kitchen and bathroom were stunning. Our 3 dogs loved the walks in the area. The village was only a few minutes walk (down and up hill) The gardens were great. Peace and relaxation for the week has left us refreshed. I have already booked March 2025 and can't wait to come back

    Situated on a very quiet lane but close enough to walk into the village. The cottage has a good range of kitchen items to allow you to self cater with ease. Lovely garden, ample parking, highly recommend a stay.

The picturesque town of Wolsingham is a quintessentially British market town in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nestled in the beautiful valley of Weardale, the town boasts a number of well-regarded pubs, cafes and restaurants, as well as convenience shops and takeaways. In the town you’ll also find an indoor swimming pool and gym, grass bowls club, several picnic areas and a recreation ground with outdoor gym and playing fields. The town has plenty of amenities, including a library, pharmacy, gift and antique shops, grocery shops, bakery, butchers and greengrocers. Also all major supermarkets deliver here. Wolsingham Show is held on the first weekend in September and is the oldest agricultural show in the country. Wolsingham is superbly situated to enjoy the best of the north-east and is a very popular base for walking and cycling. There are plenty of local attractions, including the Weardale Heritage Railway featuring the Polar Express, Hamsterley Forest which is ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding, the picturesque Tunstall Reservoir for fishing and walking, and High Force waterfall.
