The Byre, Sedbury Park Farm

William made us very welcome and went and bought two shower slip mats for us.

The main accommodation could not be faulted. Lovely big space and comfortable. Two cooking trays in the kitchen were dirty and rusty the small table and chairs outside were poor and rusty. However the whole place was lovely and made up for these easily remedied things. We had a great time here.

The Byre is large, with an open plan kitchen/dining room/sitting room and a lovely view from the large windows in the dining room where the afternoon sun floods in.

The bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are also large and the free standing baths are long, deep and very comfortable. Sedbury Park Farm is in a lovely setting about a mile from Gilling West village and close to Richmond, a very pretty market town. I stayed at The Byre with my 90-year-old mother and she found the sofas to be too low, deep and difficult to get out of. I had a chance to look at the other properties on the farm and The Cartshed is better suited for someone with mobility/accessibility issues. William, the owner, is very helpful and friendly. I was there for my birthday and he gave me a present - very thoughtful. I would certainly recommend Sedbury Park Farm.

A friendly welcome from William who is very knowledgeable about the area. The Byre is a comfy, cosy place to stay with everything you need whilst you're there. Quiet and peaceful, waking up to only hear sheep and birds was lovely. Fizz and fresh flowers a nice touch. Thorpe Perrow is beautiful and Barnard Castle a nice town to visit.

It's a converted Barn which has the lovely combination of country cottage and modern touches. The house was beautifully decorated throughout and had everything you could need during your stay. It's a massive property which comfortably sleeps 4 people. There is a woodburning fire which was lovely on the cold nights. We had a great stay and enjoyed many of the interesting places nearby, we visited Thorpe Perrow, Ripon Prison Museum, the town of Richmond was only 2 miles away with loads of nice restaurants and supermarkets. The house was lovely but there are a couple of things that need attention, the light on the step up was loose, the only thing holding it in was the wire. There are also a couple of steps inside the property, one of the bedrooms has a step down as you go in; there should be a sign warning you of this, as I almost fell as I didn't know it was there. The lock on the main door into the property was also very hard to use from the outside, we had problems getting the door locked and getting back in again. Also maybe add a blind on the doors and windows in the kitchen/sitting area as the sun was blinding from 4pm onwards. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would definitely go back. I also loved the little kittens that visit everyday, we were feeding them everyday. William was a great host always popping in to see if we needed anything. Thank you for the wine and Swiss rolls we got on arrival , nice touch. Would definitely recommend The Byre as it was a lovely place to spend the week. I'd give it 4 ⭐ the way it is️. With the little things fixed, I'd give it 5⭐️

Really comfortable and cosy.

Kittens visited. Lovely view across valley. Birthday chicks and fizz much appreciated! Only issue was heat in second bedroom- couldn’t turn it off! Overall a great few days. Richmond well worth a visit at ten minutes drive.

What a beautiful place to stay from the fantastic barn, spectacular view, visits from the kittens and Polly and George the ponies who love carrots, not to mention William the owner who cannot do enough to make your stay one you will want to come back to.

The Byre is a huge barn conversion and comfortably accommodates 4 people. It has everything you would possibly need. Two lovely bedrooms with the option to have one as a twin. They each have gorgeous bathrooms and the open plan living area is so comfortable, and the log burner was just amazing. You are 2 miles away from beautiful Richmond and less than an hour from York and Thirsk where the James Herriot Museum is well worth a visit. We will definitely return next year, with cooked ham for the kittens and bags of carrots.

Very generous accommodation with two large bedrooms, both ensuite.

The Byre is in a very quiet location overlooking lovely countryside and was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Underfloor heating means it is comfortable and very cosy. Ideal for two couples and the ensuite bedrooms are a bonus. Plenty of outdoor space to sit and and no problem parking. Gilling West is a good location for visiting Richmond (plenty of decent pubs) and the Yorkshire Dales - Aysgarth, Swawdale and Hawes. Barnard Castle is not too far away.

The Byre was a lovely place to stay.

Peaceful; and the views were amazing. The owner was very pleasant and fixed the outside light very quickly when he was told about it. We walked to the beautiful village of Gilling West where they were holding a coffee morning for Macmillan. The organisers were really friendly (as was everyone we met) and very helpful in advising where to visit. North Yorkshire is a beautiful place to visit and the Byre is central to lots of great castles and manor houses.

Excellent location.

Nice and quiet but within walking distance from local pub which does food. Close to major routes so nowhere too far away.

William was a great host, made us welcome on our first day and in passing during our stay.

The cottage was ideal for us, very private with great views across the valley. We completed several walks direct from the cottage, a couple of them to Richmond via Aske hall. Beautiful area. would highly recommend.

I would recommend this property, the attention to detail and the cleanliness of the property was excellent.

I would like to return at a later date. It is ideally situated for the many interesting places to visit.

This is one of my favourite cottages to stay at.

It is clean comfortable and has a lovely feel to it. The views are phenomenal. Mainsgill farm shop is only a 7 min drive away in the car. If I could improve anything about this cottage it would be tv upgrade with extra channels and new garden furniture by the BBQ, however it did not hinder my stay at all. 10/10.

Lovely cottage in a great peaceful area but lacking in cleanliness-dining table and worktops were dirty-had to scrub clean.

Floors also had bits on them. Lacked blinds in bathroom where you can keep privacy but let light in and no curtains/blinds in main area for privacy especially at night.

The cottage was very good, the owner was a lovely fella, I think a little bit of maintenance on it would make this a 5 star property without doubt as its in a beautiful area, it had everything we needed for a relaxing break with friends, I think maybe some better outside furniture would benefit the property as the old interior dining table out the back is falling to bits, we would definitely be back though.

The Byre setting is wonderful.

Unfortunately it was not as clean as one would expect. The floor was not very clean, the fridge could have done with a clean and the view was blurred by dirty windows. The garden furniture was starting to fall apart and needs replacing. All in all a little disappointing

Beautiful property with stunning views

For 12 years we have made a 5* cottage in Northumbria our destination .

The Byre matches that standard. We received a warm welcome and felt at home immediately. The only niggle we had … and this applies to most hotels and cottages we have stayed in … regards the lack of good lighting for reading. We prefer to read in the evenings rather than watch TV and have always found this an issue. But that said we loved The Byre, the sensitive and well considered transformation of the old farm buildings and the peace and quiet of the surroundings. There is so much to see in the area so I think we will be returning to The Byre.

Wonderful property in an amazing location.

Very spacious cottage in quiet rural location.

Private and secluded and close to lovely town of Richmond. We dined twice in the Rustique Richmond, where the service and food were good. Only suggestion regarding the cottage would be to change light bulbs in living area to brighter LED ones as current lighting is insufficient for size of room. Despite that we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property. The cakes and wine left by Ann much appreciated. Ken and Mary.

A few items could do with updating as they are showing their age and years of use.

Beautiful setting and very comfortable spacious cottage.

Lovely touches with home made baking and a bottle of wine upon arrival. Whilst the cottage looks lovely it needs proper cleaning .Floors were dirty and edges / corners of rooms need cleaning especially in bedrooms and bathrooms. Very friendly host .

It would have been useful to know that the Fridge/Freezer had a 3 drawer Freezer ( freezer was under counter size).

Handy to know if you wanted to bring prepared meals.

We loved our stay at The Byre.

The barn conversion was the perfect place to relax at the end of the day with its spacious lay out, lovely rooms and rural location. We also enjoyed feeding Dolly and George every day.

Lovely quiet location with beautiful views but only a few minutes from scotch corner so ideal for exploring. Cottage is lovely. The lights on the skirting on the way to the bedrooms are genius. Both bedrooms are en-suite which is great. We had a lovely welcome from our host (we got lost and had to ring - my bad navigation). Everything was beautifully clean and there was a welcome gift of cake and wine which was a lovely touch and milk in the fridge. Overall a wonderful stay and would love to return

Lovely peaceful rural location and host who was friendly, available but not in the least intrusive.

We had privacy. Good instruction manual to steer us through things. Underfloor heating was very warm for us and hard to regulate , so we were often hot but many others might like it. A couple of doors and locks were a bit jammed and needed attention and we broke one lock whilst trying to lock a door. Felt bad about that but it pointed to a need for a little bit of maintenance. Generally clean and inviting property although unsealed slate/flag bathroom floors were bit fluffy and I note are hard to get completely clean. Maybe they need sealing to keep grout together and stop dust and hair sticking? Notwithstanding these minor things, the setting is lovely, the horse and cattle are interesting, the view is gorgeous and we were very satisfied with our stay.

The Byre was beautiful and had great attention to detail.

We really enjoyed our stay. The setting was just perfect and many places of interest within easy reach. Sadly it rained all week which was a shame as we hoped to do lots of walking. Many thanks for a great stay!

sinks in the bathroom we used would not hold any water.

mugs in kitchen chipped and cracked so had to use our own. would have appreciated a visit from the owners during our stay especially after the stormy night . We had to clean the patio of debris and put plant pots back in place .

Lovely, comfortable cottage, location is perfect the view from the window is outstanding, owners Ann and William could not be more helpful, had a couple of minor issues which Ann dealt with instantly.

Ann very friendly and welcoming. Cottage well equipped. The log fire is the icing on the cake so cozy in the evening. Outside area perfect we had a couple of BBQ's in the evening, sitting outside enjoying these was good as not over looked. Would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful property in an picturesque location.

We had a few maintenance issues during our stay, however the owners Ann and William sorted these out very swiftly. We loved the location which we found very relaxing and the animals on the farm. In particular, George the pony which our children enjoyed feeding every day an apple and carrot. :) The cleanliness wasn't up to the standard you would expect, such as the floors required a good hoovering and mopping. The kitchen units needed a better clean and so did the kitchen table. However, despite this, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sedbury Park Farm.

Excellent cottage in every way.

Clean, spacious, comfortable, views over the fields you never get tried of seeing. Easy to find, great base for visiting wonderful North Yorkshire. We will defiantly try to stay here again, the next time we are in the area.

We had a wonderful stay at The Byre.

William and Ann were absolutely lovely and welcoming from the thoughtful welcome surprises to the helpful information pack. The accommodation was great, comfortable and very relaxing, everything was thought of, even milk in the fridge! The views are spectacular and seeing the farm animals everyday was a bonus for us and especially our daughter. We loved our time there and got to explore the local area which has lots to offer. We take away a weeks worth of memories that will stay with us a lifetime.

Based on our experience of renting holiday homes over some forty years, The Byre is an exceptional property - in terms of location, space, comfort,equipment and facilities.

It is beautifully designed and the owners have thought of everything visitors might need and provided it - including thoughtful welcome gifts. It is very conveniently located for Richmond, major road routes and the Dales and is in a quiet spot with lovely views. We cannot recommend this property too highly - it is excellent in every way.

It was one of the best cottages we have rented in The Dales.

Everything was fine although as we are elderly we found the lounge seating very low and very deep and so difficult to use with comfort. That is our only minor comment!.

The owner was lovely. Very welcoming. Simply beautiful views. The only slight thing was it was a little dusty/ cleanliness could have been improved upon arrival.

Everything about the Barn was perfect with the added bonus of welcome gifts from Ann. We were treated to every home comfort you could think of plus a lovely bottle of wine and home made cakes. The farm animals made our holiday with George having his daily apple and our regular visits from the two chickens. The Galloway cows along with their calves were also regular visitors. The location just outside Richmond was ideal. We went on day trips to Whitby, Barnard Castle, Northallerton, Thirsk, Cannonhall Farm in Barnsley and Wetherby. We also visited Richmond on numerous occasions and the beautiful Waterfalls on the river. The weather was also perfect with no rain! We will definitely visit again. Sykes Cottages are very easy to book through, we have used the company on a number of occasions and the staff are always friendly and offer excellent advice.

So comfortable and homely.

Wow, what a place!

Beautiful interiors, comfy beds and cows as neighbours! The cottage is well designed and has everything you would need. Ann also provided sone delicious home baked shortbreads and muffins. We were only staying for 2 nights but wanted to stay for much longer. I highly recommend Byre Cottage.

There is plenty to see and do in the area and being only 2 miles from the A1 at scotch corner it is easy to quickly get to places of interest. The owners were very friendly and encouraged us to see all the animals they keep on the farm. It is one of the few places where we have been where the reality is better than the photos.

Fabulous cottage done to a very high spec and for a BYE get away the lights/tree made it extra special.

Lots of room for our children to play and being able to see the animals every morning was a real bonus. Ann was so helpful too and left some goodies for us which were very much appreciated! Thank you

We previously lived in Over Dinsdale from 2013-2015 & got to know the area quite well.

Having a fantastic location to base ourselves at your lovely Byre allowed us a couple of days to visit places we know with our friends. We took in Richmond, Moulton (Black Bull), Rockcliffe Hall, The Bay Horse at Hurworth & the Swann at Gilling West. we had a lovely walk in Richmond that took us down by the river. The Byre was a great location to catch up with all of these places within easy reach. The taxi service was also very good & not expensive. We have already passed on the details of the Byre to our friends (Sharon Wesley) who hope to book it in 2019. WE will also be looking to book up for a week sometime in the summer.

The Byre is a really comfortable cottage finished to a very high standard, in fact we have already book for next year.

I would have no problem in recommending the Sedbury Farm cottages to family and friends.

The accommodation deserves 5* rating. Great attention to detail in the property has been paid by the owners Ann and William who were both very helpful and on hand if we needed any advice or help.
