The cottage is simply stunning everything you could ever need and spotlessly clean a lovely welcome hamper on arrival was a special touch, never been anywhere so quite you could hear a pin drop this is equally special.

Lovely to also watch local wildlife in fields making it a truly memorable trip and can’t wait to return.

We had an Amazing 7 Days Stay at the Stone Byre in Barnard Castle.

The Cottage was very Beautiful, Spacious and very Comfortable. When we arrived, the Owner Dr Pearson gave us both a Lovely Welcome, and opened up The Stone Byre Cottage for us. When we entered, it felt so really Homely, and we were Greeted with a Welcome Message and a Basket of Treats and Necessitites, and even Milk in the Fridge Wow! What a Lovely Warm Heart the Owners showed and displayed to their First Time Holiday Visitors. They certainly do go the Extra Mile to make your Holiday Cottage Experience a very Memorable One. The Cottage was situated in such a Beautiful and very Peaceful Location away from main roads. The Provision in the Cottage had almost everything you could ask for, to have such an Amazing Holiday Break. Items which were provided were Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Iron, Ironing Board, Hair Dryer, Towels, Soaps, Bath Soak, Torch, Coal, Central Heating, Spices for Cooking. I could go on, because the List is Endless. It is such a Beautiful Peaceful Place. We would therefore like to say a Big Thank You and GOD Bless to Both Mr & Mrs Pearson and Sykes Cottages for all your Hard Work and Dedication you have shown to us Both, resulting to us Both having such an Amazing Holiday Cottage Break. Thank You Again !

Gorgeous cottage.

Spotlessly clean and a homely feel. Well equipped and good communication with owners. Welcome basket was lovely, and owner Rob came to check everything was ok. As others have said, shower is tricky for tall people. I'm only 5'8 but couldn't stand up straight in shower as it's under the slope of the roof. Beds very comfy, but upstairs floors and beds are very creaky, so be aware if you need the loo in the night, you can't go quietly! Despite boosters, WiFi was slow. But enjoy a digital detox, there's plenty of books, films and games in the cottage. Lovely countryside and lots of great places nearby to visit. Recommended.

Quiet location and well appointed property with all the kitchen utensils you are likely to need.

Comfortable beds, rural outlook, and use of field and pond area. Nice patio area and gas barbecue available if required. Welcome basket much appreciated on arrival.

The best cottage we have had this year!

Friendly owner, warm welcome, quiet surroundings. Although not in a village, Barnard Castle is very near. Nice walks. And the temperature not as hot as in the South (heatwave). Thanks for everything.

A lovely quiet location and only 2 miles from Barnard Castle. The cottage had everything you needed with a thoughtful welcome pack and flowers. The shower over the bath is certainly not for anyone too tall as the sloping ceiling gets in the way. Otherwise I couldn’t fault the place. The owner gave us permission to use his field which was feet away from the cottage; the girls loved playing ball games on there.

We enjoyed or stay at The Stone Byre, there was a well stocked welcome basket on arrival and we met the owner while we were moving in, he was present, knowledgeable and helpful but in no way obtrusive.

The property was comfortable and the setting was just what we wanted for a week away. Barnard Castle has good independent butchers and bakers as well as a Morrisons for more day to day needs.

Outstanding property.

A lovely cottage in wonderful countryside that is spotless and exceptionally well-organized and decorated. The owner is a delight and an expert on local and county sights. I especially appreciated the thoughtful welcome basket with the most delicious home-made jam. Everything about The Stone Byre is modern, inviting, comfortable, and secluded. It is a stone's throw from Barnard Castle, Mickleton, and numerous lovely hiking trails and waterfalls. Thank you for a memorable visit.

Outstanding cottage which was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed.

Directions how to get there and where to park were very clear and there was a warm welcome from the owner. Just outside Barnard Castle in peaceful surroundings with a good size terrace. We will definitely be booking this delightful cottage again.

It is my second time staying at Stone Byre.

This is a delightful cottage with all the comforts of home. Warm and very clean. Bedrooms are a good size and beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is equipped with everything for making dinners and there is the special touch of herbs and spices available too. Lovely welcome basket on arrival with tea, coffee, homemade jam and a bottle of Prosecco. We will be back to stay again.

A return visit to a comfortable, spacious cottage in a lovely location.

There’s a warm, generous welcome and it offers great value for money. The only slight negative is the challenging shower, but that would certainly not deter us from staying again!

We loved the cottage. It was so private and really felt a world away from the rat race. Very clean property with all facilities very well thought out. The only exception being the shower which was quite a challenge heightwise & getting a constant temperature. Having said that I would definitely book again as everything else is just perfect

Owner really welcoming and helpful. Lovely location for exploring and waking. House was clean, tidy, we had everything we needed. The shower was a bit tricky because there isn’t enough room to stand but we managed fine once we got use to it.

Wonderful location, every conceivable place you might wish to visit on either coastline is within 90 minutes.

We drove across the dales between Barnard Castle and Hexam, incredible drive and both fantastic places too. The property was perfect on every way. We shall return

One of the loveliest ones we've ever stayed in. Easy self check-in, useful information, great log burner for colder evenings and peaceful outside area for warmer weather. Clean, comfortable and we really felt at home. The welcome basket was a thoughtful touch and the home made jam was amazing! We enjoyed our walk into the nearby town and there's so much to do and see in the surrounding areas. Highly recommend this cottage. Wish we could've stayed longer!

Back after 19 years and it's just as wonderful as we remember.

What an absolute gem, beautiful location that's super convenient for getting to Barnard Castle town and surrounding areas. Our car journey up was challenging, so walking into a lovely warm, comfy and clean cottage with an amazingly generous welcome basket and milk in the fridge for a cuppa was just perfect. Really couldn't have wanted for more. Great selection of movies to pop on the DVD player and board games to pass time in the peaceful evenings. Beds are very comfortable, and paired with the quiet location, we all slept like logs! Thank you so much for having us, we'll be back sooner this time!

Lovely cottage.

Very clean and comfortable. My only criticism is that (at 6'3") I had difficulty fitting in the short bath and not enough head room to stand up to use the shower. There appears to be plenty of room for a longer bath. Would definitely return all the same.

Nice cottage.

The cottage was very nicely presented.

There was a very nice surprise of items on our arrival including milk in the fridge, home made jam, and fresh flowers in the lounge. And in a lovely quiet location overlooking the countryside.

It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners contacted is before our stay to make sure that we had all the information we needed with directors and how to get access to the property. There is an extensive library of things to do in the area which was very helpful.

Absolutely fantastic cottage!

Very cosy, lovely welcome hamper including shortbread and bottle of prosecco! Perfectly located with easy access to Barnard Castle and the countryside on your doorstep. Hosts lovely. Only negative was I was hoping to do some work during the stay but the WiFi wasn't up to it unfortunately.

What's not to like.

This is a wonderful cottage set in a quiet location. The cottage has everything you need for your stay and the extra touches are a lovely. If looking to come back to the area I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Absolutely loved our stay here.

The Stone Byre was everything, and more, than we expected.

It was wonderfully warm and comfortable with the owner on hand to answer questions, if required, but never intrusive. Great position for exploring the many areas of interest locally with an abundance of fantastic walks. This property is an absolute gem...we loved it! Peace and tranquility come as standard. The owners live next door and are there if you should need them, otherwise you are left to enjoy your holiday. You will want to return, we have done!

The cottage is clean, cosy & comfortable. It is well equipped & a small welcome hamper provides a few essentials. The rural location means you have lovely countryside views, but is still only a few minutes drive from Barnard Castle. The cottage has a sheltered patio area looking onto fields & is quiet & private. Secure parking is available at the cottage & is easily accessible. A great base from which to visit the many local attractions.

It was a really lovely cottage.

Nice to arrive into to an already warm cottage. The furniture and fittings in the cottage were first rate - one of the very nicest cottages we have ever been to. The hosts were very friendly and left a nice basket of biscuits and home made jam in the welcome pack. We loved the fact that there was farmland just outside the door. The sound of Curlews calling around the cottage from dawn until dusk was wonderful. Our only slight criticism of the cottage was there was no shower only a small bath.

Lovely quiet location with good access road, providing secluded parking spaces, nice front patioed garden overlooking paddock area, with a nearby gated garden with resident friendly duck. A varied selection of DVDs for films and a good selection of books and guides regarding the area. Thanks to the owners for use of the accommodation and would recommend.

We had a lovely restful break and were very lucky with the weather.

There was a lovely welcome box with homemade jam which we enjoyed all week. This cosy cottage was very clean, well decorated and well equipped. Plenty of guides, maps and information about the local area. The only downside was there was only a bath which very short, so not for tall people!

This is a total gem, a lovely cottage, well equipped, spacious, with beautiful views over fields of sheep and within easy reach of lots of attraction.

The only surprise was that there wasn't a shower head in the bathroom, only a bath - that was a new experience for our 21 year old who is used to jumping into the shower in the morning; for us his parents it was more of a trip down memory lane. The cottage was extremely comfortable with all we could have needed to make us feel at home, as well as a 'welcome basket' full of goodies - and a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge! The views were stunning, looking out across fields filled with sheep and lambs, and we were very lucky with glorious, sunny weather. We will definitely recommend The Stone Byre to friends and family in future, and would stay there again without hesitation.

We have just spent a week here and I tried to think of some way to make it better but I failed.

The area we visited was great .

We have stayed in many of sykescottages but this was certainly the best all round and a credit to the owners who were very helpful and oblgeing.

We had a wonderful stay at Stone Byre from our warm welcome and cottage tour from Valerie to the day we sadly departed.

The view of the fields with the sheep was particularly enjoyed from the bed. The cottage was warm, cosy and very clean. There was a lovely welcome basket in the very well equipped kitchen and in the lounge many books about the area and a varied selection of DVDs for young and old. The one very minor problem we had was immediately rectified. It would have been great to sit outside in the garden area but alas it was a bit cold at the end of October - perhaps we will return at a warmer time of year.

This cottage exceeded all expectations.

On arrival there was a welcome box containing goodies including a bottle of sparkling wine, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. A container of fresh milk was in the fridge. The kitchen had a full size fridge / freezer and dishwasher; there was also a washing machine. Towels were provided for each person and the bedding was spotlessly clean, all of the highest standard. The beds were amazingly comfortable. Loo rolls, washing up liquid etc were all provided. The cottage was lovely and warm and we were able to adjust the heating as required. Fuel for the multi stove was provided although we only used it once as the heating system was so efficient. There was no 'walk-in' shower in the bathroom due to the size and level of the roof, however the water was plentiful and hot and there was a very powerful hand-held shower over the bath which was more than adequate. We didn't find this was an issue. We would highly recommend this cottage, you will not be disappointed.

The cottage is exactly as described and the owners are so welcoming and friendly nothing is too much trouble. Location is fantastic for visiting surrounding areas. This is the best cottage I have stayed in and will definitely return. Overall a credit to the owners would very highly recommend.

A charming cottage with many delightful touches in a quiet rural situation with an outlook over open grass fields grazed by sheep (not forgetting the odd Curlew !

), yet only a couple of miles from Barnard Castle. Although the cottage is attached to the main house, it has a private west facing patio which gets the sun for a large part of the day. The owners have obviously put considerable thought into ensuring that the cottage is well set up with everything that one could possibly want. There was a welcome pack on arrival which was also much appreciated. An excellent base from which to explore the surrounding are. My wife and I had an idyllic week there and we would heartily recommend it.

Lovely owners on hand but not intrusive. Excellent welcome pack and welcome on arrival. Lovely well thought out and equipped cottage. Recently refurbished kitchen much improved from the pictures on the advert. Spotlessly clean with nothing missing that you might need - just add yourselves good and clothes!! Quiet but in easy reach of lots to do what ever the weather. The only thing that might be a negative for some is the shower is over the bath but due to the roof you can't stand up and shower in it unless you aren't very tall but we weren't too troubled by this as it was an excellent shower it's self. Thank you. We loved it and would certainly recommend to others.
