  • "Everything was just as described."

We had a great time, sipping a cocktail, in the hot tub, looking up at the stars on an evening - just lovely! Thanks.

  • "Whilst we had an ok stay, I don`t think we would be going back."

The bedrooms are very small so not sure how this can be described as spacious. The 2nd bedroom barely fits a double bed and its very difficult to move around it. The Wifi Password was written down incorrectly in the welcome pack so we had to get that resolved which took an hour or so. The lodge only provided 2 Towels between 4 of us so again we had to go out and purchase more.and it clearly stated 4 occupants for the stay. There is barely any phone signal up there whatsoever which I understand isn`t the fault of the owners but when the broadband is only 10mb this affects the overall stay, esepcially if you have teenagers. I felt this was about £100 over priced for what it was hence the ratings I`ve given. Also the showers are very low powered and we seemed to not have much hot water, which in Feb isn`t ideal The area is nice and Richmond isn`t far away at all but we knew this already.

  • "Had a lovely, relaxing weekend at 6 Badgers Retreat, the lodge was very clean and homely."

The only fault we had was that the hot tub didn't have a cover over it which is ok when it’s not raining or snowing, unfortunately it was for us so didn’t get chance to use the hot tub much :(

  • "Had a very lovely relaxing stay, everything thought about."

Only downside is having to leave at 10am and being only able to access the property at 5pm. Never enough time.

  • "We have recently returned from a weeks break at badgers retreat holiday park."

While the lodge was lovely but in need of some repair works outside, this did not bother us at all. The internet at the lodge is also very poor and we had 3 days out of the 6 with no wi-fi and with other issues like curfews on the park we needed with our 2 teenage children to at least be able to watch movies on Netflix. Another issue we had was with the 10pm curfew outside ( not allowed to talk around outdoor table or go in the hot tub after 10pm ). This was due to the Holiday park actually being more of a residential park. With this we can understand the rule in place as people have to get up for work, but our choice of accommodation would of been different if this was advised before us arriving at the premises. Also they advise you can take your dog to lodge, but they do not inform you that you dog cannot be left at all ! Our dog is 15 years old and cannot walk for long periods or go to all the places our teenage children would like to go. We was also told by the site manager that we cannot even leave the dog for a few hours to go out for an evening meal. We have stayed away in many lodges before and have never had a curfew on any of our others stays. Sykes should detail all the parks rules on there listing, so the customer can decide if any of these rules will impact there holiday before booking. I also dont see how the park can say they are a holiday park when they have residents staying in every other lodge. At the very least they should place all the residents at one end and all the holiday guests at the other.

  • "The lodge was nice but decking needs some attention and wisteria growing wild needs cutting plus plants in pots were old and not very appealing."

Nice plants would have given it all a different feel. It says its on the outskirts of Richmond, its 5 miles away which is misleading.

  • "Great chalet, park and location ."

Clive made us welcome on arrival, with a fun coming out of lockdown BBQ. We enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor seating and comfy lounge to relax in the evening, with a drink or two. A perfect and peaceful base (loved seeing all the lambs in the nearby fields), for exploring the nearby delights of North Yorkshire including Richmond

  • "Lovely lodge, was decorated all Christmassy for us which was a lovely touch."

The only bad points we would say the mattresses could do with upgrading not very comfortable and the en-suite shower was very temperamental one min nice and warm then turned freezing for a couple of minutes. Other than that we had a lovely stay.

  • "This is a fabulous place, very cosy, homely and clean."

The hot tub was fantastic too. The only downside was the comfort of the beds. The mattresses are very old, lumpy and hard so didn't give you the best nights sleep which is a shame. The area to walk your dog is also very difficult to access being up a very steep bank which, in the wet weather was muddy and slippy so not ideal. Having said that, we had a great time and - if they renewed the mattresses - would definitely stay again.

  • "1 The floors were dirty there was a ball of dog hairs and fluff under the front of one chair."

2 There was a finger nail clipping next to the cooker on the work bench. 3 There was grease on the glass door inside the cooker and food crumbs on the ridge under the outside of the cooker door. 4 There was bits of dog biscuits in the rug in the living area. 5 I spilled some water on the carpet in the bedroom and when I wiped it up the cloth was covered in black dog hairs, these were not from my dog as I have a westie which was not in the bedroom as stated not too. 6 There was only luke warm water for the shower and bath 7 The area for walking the dog was up a steep grass embankment to get to the main walking area and with the grass being wet and I have a mobility problem and the dog being elderly we could not walk him..

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
