Had a lovely stay in Barn Owl Cottage.

Jenny was the perfect host. Cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable everything we needed was there. Everything was on one level apart from one deep step up to the living area from the front door which was a issue for me there was also a shallow step into the main bedroom and one into the second bathroom. These steps were not mentioned on Sykes description of the cottage. We had some lovely days afternoon cruise tea from Skipton which needs booking in advance. Hawes market and creamery and a visit to Tan Hill had a nice lunch. The Crown inn in Pateley Bridge does great food. Would return again if the other cottages do not have the step into the living area.

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location!

The pictures do not do it justice! We came to celebrate my husband’s and our friends’ birthdays and had a wonderful time! We explored the local area and enjoyed the peace and quiet in the cottage. The cottage was clean, well maintained and beautifully decorated. It was a lovely spot for a few days away! Thank you!

Very spacious , loved the open plan living space. Very comfy sofas. Could start some beautiful walk’s right from the doorstep. Pateley bridge only a miles walk away, very handy. A good base for all the Dales has to offer.

Very comfortable, clean and warm. We enjoyed lovely walks along the riverside into Pateley Bridge with Remy the mad sprocker spaniel. Great pubs, cafes and shops. We will definitely be back. One of the best cottages we have stayed in.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet area.

Took our dog to get away from the fireworks and it was perfect. Only a 20 minute walk into Pateley Bridge and its lovely shops and eateries. Jenny the owner was really helpful and on hand if you needed anything but not obtrusive. The cottage had everything we needed and we would definitely return. Fantastic stay, thank you

We loved this cottage!

From the moment we arrived it felt like it was giving us a warm hug. It really was like a home from home, with everything we needed, and we instantly relaxed! It’s the best cottage we have stayed in, and the owner Jenny was so welcoming. The countryside all around us was stunning, and Pateley Bridge is a lovely little town with lots of pubs and cafe’s and little shops to explore. I would highly recommend a visit there.

Good sized comfortable property which had everything we needed.

Our hosts were friendly, helpful and very caring when my wife and I were unwell for a couple days. Checking up to ensure my elderly sister was OK and even collecting a meal and cooking it for her on the first night. Made our stay even more enjoyable in an area of natural beauty. Would love to return.

Had a lovely relaxing stay at Barn Owl cottage.

The owners Jenny and Johnny, couldn't do enough for us. The cottage has everything you could possible need for your stay ( we were there for 2 weeks), everything is on one level apart from one step up into the living area from the front door. All great for someone with mobility issues. It was spotlessly clean. Lots of lovely places to visit close by. We loved Brimham rocks, Fountains Abbey and Studley, Ripon, and the Himalayan garden and sculpture park is well worth a visit. We would gladly return!

Jenny is a fabulous host and is on hand if you have any problems, not that anyone who has stayed in Barn Owl Cottage would have encountered any, as the property is so tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and has everything you would need for a lovely stay.

There were biscuits and a selection of teas and coffees on arrival together with a cleaning basket containing washing up liquid, washing up sponge, j cloth, tea towels, dishwasher tablets and much more. This really is one if not the best Sykes property we have stayed in and will be back. Thank you Jenny.

A lovely cottage in a great location for touring the Dales.

We found it very easily and were greeted by Jenny upon arrival with a big smile. The cottage had everything we needed. It was exceptionally comfortable, clean and well maintained. We would highly recommend it.

Barn Owl Cottage is beautifully appointed, spacious accommodation in an ideal location for the nearby village, lovely walks and places of interest to visit.

The cottage was very well equipped, there was nothing we went to use that wasn’t there! Due to abnormally heavy snowfall, we were stranded when we were due to leave as the roads out were impassable. Owner Jenny offered and allowed us to stay there for an additional night until we could safely get out.

Just enjoyed a lovely peaceful Christmas at Barn Owl cottage.

Jenny the owner was really lovely and is near by if you need anything. There’s some lovely walks and nearby Pateley Bridge offers a few shops and a great butchers. The Royal Oak pub offers great food and friendly atmosphere. We will certainly return !

When we walked in to the cottage it was warm and felt cosy.

The place was spacious, very clean and well maintained. There was a small fenced in area outside the front door. If we wanted to have the door open we could without worrying about our Whippet going exploring where she shouldn't. Jennifer was was great and made sure all was as it should be.

My friend and I had wonderful relaxing weeks stay at Barn Owl cottage, the surrounding area was stunning with some beautiful walks.

We were quite central to visiting some wonderful places which we both love. Our host Jenny was a lovely accommodating person and my friend and I look forward to returning for another wonderful stay in the future

What a lovely cottage!

It was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and in a great location to explore the area. We had a fabulous week and it was well worth the 300 mile drive to get here. Jenny was lovely, very welcoming and friendly which is exactly what we look for. Our spaniel enjoyed his break too! Will we come back? Yes, definitely!

A very nice cottage in the countryside, well appointed and comfortable, a couple of things the on suit taps need a new washer and the mattress needs a topper, other than that an excellent stay, the hostess very obliging and couldn't do enough, would recommend.

Tea, coffee, milk and super biscuits available as we arrived. Daffodils to greet us and enjoy. Jennie was on hand and very, very pleasant and helpful. The cobbled yard and steps we knew about before we booked. They could be an issue for anyone with very reduced mobility.

Jenny is such a lovely person and a wonderful all inclusive host.

The cottage had everything we needed in a beautiful location. The owner is so friendly and would do everything she could to make things possible. Our dog enjoyed it too.

We absolutely loved everything about the Barn Owl cottage, its location and the many things to do including a beautiful walk to Whitaker’s gin distillery.

I saw in a previous review saying it wasn’t suitable for disabled due to having steps into the bathroom and one of the bedrooms but our 91 and 93 year old parents (one having to use walking aids) managed them okay. The layout with its huge open plan worked well. The cleanliness, the guest pack on arrival including biscuits was lovely. The owners are brilliant, we were greeted on arrival and they made sure we had everything we needed and to ask if we were in need of anything else. The building with its cobbled courtyard and the whole history is definitely worthy of a read which can be found amongst the welcome pack. Would we book again? It’s a huge YES!

We have a lovely holiday, very nice stay in Barn Owl cottage, we couldn't fault anything, very nice area for walks and a short drive into Pateley Bridge.

The owner very helpful and friendly, would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

A lovely property, with a comprehensive set of kitchen utensils, comfy sofas and beds.

Wifi was weak and often no service at all. Freesat had a very limited number of channels. Not suitable for disabled because there is a step into every room except the twin bedroom, and the courtyard is very uneven.

Fabulous cottage in an amazing location, would have no hesitation in recommending Barn Owl to anyone interested in a holiday centred around wildlife and walking with a little bit of history thrown in.

Fenced off area in front of building for outdoor seating/dogs/children. Very friendly and helpful owner. Set in beautiful countryside with numerous walks and pleasant riverside path into Pately Bridge. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Barn Owl cottage is a unique holiday let, positioned on a farm.

We contacted the owner 2 days prior to our holiday commencing and Jenny gave us the details regarding the keys to the property. The property was easy to find as the farm is identified by brown signs, in Pately Bridge. Would we return for another holiday, if we intended to be in the area, most definitely as it is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Thank you Jenny.

As with all the cottages we have rented, the Barn Owl cottage was just ideal for a walking holiday.

The cottage was comfy, clean and the family were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble to make our stay enjoyable. I would highly recommend this cottage.

What a great cottage even tea towels toilet tolls washing up liquor and surface and COVID cleaner plus eggs tea coffee milk biscuits.

A nice cottage.

I’d imagine in the Sumer (or drier months) this would be a spectacular place, however, having arrived on the day Storm Dennis was about to start, the preceding rain meant access to the property was restricted to one way only, (and going the other way, the pathway had been closed on the route to Pateley bridge), so having young children this then meant to go to lately bridge was a 2.2 mile drive (uphill and downhill) instead of a nice family walk.. the weather severely restricted our activities as a family. The property was spacious, water was very hot, and the heating was very quick to come on when required. Only other negative, was the WiFi was a bit flakey (on your phone), but non existent on the smart TV, which meant due to the rain everyday, would have been a blessing for the children whilst at the property. (In the process of being updated, but not yet finalised) The owner was very friendly.

Hi Just back from Barn Owl Cottage in Pateley Bridge , it was FANTASTIC wonderful owners Jenny and Johnny ,cottage was immaculate and exceeded our expectations.

We will defiantly be going back .

Barn Owl cottage was a delight to stay in, the facilities were brilliant: we had everything we needed, and the location was perfect for exploring Yorkshire.

We had a brilliant holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Barn Owl Cottage - it was light, airy, tastefully decorated and had the perfect amount of space for our family of four. There were lovely little touches such as tea, biscuits, hand soap and moisturiser that make your stay that bit more comfortable.

Very friendly and welcoming hosts and peaceful setting.

My one slight criticism is the shower, probably due to water pressure, it is more a sprinkle than a shower in the ensuite. I tried the shower over the bath but couldn't get a comfortable temperature with mixer taps, even though mine is run off mixer taps at home so I am used to trial and error getting it right! Other than the shower problem I would recommend the cottage to other people.

The location for walking holidays is very good.

Barn Owl cottage had plenty of room and was clean and tidy, however the sofas are old and uncomfortable. From the photo we wrongly assumed that the cottage was roadside when it is in fact in a small farm courtyard. The view from the window in the front of the cottage is of the cobbled yard that is used to park cars, the side windows both from the sitting area and the twin bedroom look straight into an attached tractor shed complete with tractor, and the double bedroom looks out onto a small patch of rough grass and the tractor shed doors,in fact there are no countryside views from the cottage

Unfortunately the weather was so miserable we decided to come home earlier than planned.

Barn Owl cottage was lovely.....the owner Jenny even offered to bring me a separate chair over as I have a problem with my spine. The cottage is situated in a yard so there is not much to see....having said that if we had had good weather we would have been out and about all day. There was plenty of room in the cottage and there was a lovely welcome pack waiting for us so we could have a lovely cup of tea as soon as we got there. getting there was a bit of a problem........our sat nav took us almost to the doorstep , however we took a bit of a while to find the place. Having said that , we phoned Jenny and she stayed on the phone and stood outside the property doing Starjumps so we could see her. !!!!!! The cottage is very light and airy with plenty of space throughout. It is very well equipped and Jenny was nearby so if we needed anything ....we only had to ask. Would I go back there..........I certainly would. !!!!!!

Warm comfortable cottage right on the route of the Nidderdale Way.

Lots of space and helpful owner. Was a bit disappointed to find one bedroom window looked into barn and skylight had no blind. Would have liked a washer as we were walking all week.

Barn Owl Cottage looks out onto the farmhouse courtyard with convenient parking.

It is a quiet area within a beautiful location in the Nidderdale Valley. A 10min walk down the country lane led us to a pond walk with swathes of bluebell & wild garlic flowers in late April. You are surrounded by fields of lambs frolicking in the sunshine & if you wish to ride, the local equestrian centre is a 5min walk away. Pateley Bridge is a 15-20 minute walk from either direction from the cottage. Jenny & Johnny we’re both very helpful and friendly hosts. I would recommend them for self catering & the area for b&b. 10 out 10.

The Cottage living room outlook was of part of the farm square used as a store for farm and other machinery.

Not a great view to look out on. The lounge seating was in very poor condition,very uncomfortable and requires replacing. As a result of this it was impossible to relax and be comfortable in the evenings.In general it needs a large amount of small items ie door hanging hooks unusable, coat hangers that are not properly secured,a shower not secured properly in the master bedroom en suite ect. A small amount of work would make a great difference.

Lovely cottage and we were made very welcome highly recommend if you are looking for a cottage in this area.

Just come back from a weeks stay in Barn Owl Cottage.

It was a homely cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Jenny was lovely and couldnt do enough for us. Will definately be returning!

We enjoyed our stay at Owl Barn.

Jenny, the owner was friendly and approachable. The location is ideal, just over a mile on the roads to Pateley Bridge or a little longer by the scenic walk along the river. The cottage itself is spacious and tastefully decorated and furnished. The heating is simple and easily controlled by a thermostat which is great for the cold snap we had during our stay. There was plenty of hot water too. We found the kitchen was well equipped for our needs. (Note, unlike most other cottages there is no starter pack of tea/coffee etc so guests need to bring initial supplies) We found the Internet unreliable during our stay, the main issue being it would frequently go off for a few minutes and then come back on again. Two or three times when it didn’t come on, we had to contact Jenny to reboot the system which she kindly did to get it going again. The lights over the mirrors in the ensuite and bathroom have no bulbs in them so don’t work - this would be useful for applying make-up/shaving etc (neither room has any natural light). On Sykes website, it is clear that there is a variety of toiletries supplied in both the bathroom and ensuite, which is misleading and not even soap is provided.

Beautiful spot. Lovely helpful owner. Cottage lovely , warm and tastefully decorated. Small niggles would be not enough crockery bearing in mind there is a dishwasher, and not more towels as mentioned in previous reviews but a large better quality towel would be much appreciated especially for my 6 foot husband. Showers poor but unlike previous items not easy to rectify, and reflected in reasonably priced rental. Would we return? Definitely!

This was a long awaited holiday and really not sure what to expect!

However, it was brilliant our hosts Jenny and Johnny were wonderful and they went out their way to help finding a good hairdressers, where to go for a good meal really Jenny was just an adorable girl. The cottage was lovely, rooms a big size and warm which suited me as I feel the cold badly it was the beginning of October with a nip in the air. Thank you Jenny and Johnny for the warm welcome.

We were surprised about how few essentials were in the cottage such as no milk jug, only 4 teaplates, 2 tea towels for a week, 1 bath and 1 hand towel each for a week, only 1 shelf in the oven and no washing machine.

The lighting was very poor and the sofas very uncomfortable. 3 of the Windows looked out into a covered shed housing a tractor. The area itself was very picturesque but very disappointed with the accommodation.

The area is beautiful lots of places to visit.

Pateley bridge has lots of nice cafes and quaint shops. The cottage was just perfect and the owners so friendly and couldn't do enough for us to make our holiday great

Excellent cottage.

Walked the Nidderdale Way and used cottage as base. It was in an ideal location.

The owner jenny was on hand when we arrived and welcomed us to the cottage and showed us around and if we needed anything just call.

The cottage was warm and comfortable with everthing you would need for a break away from home. thanks again jenny.

The cottage is so well located.

We also loved the walk into Pateley Bridge along the lane from the farm and then the river Nidd. Pateley is lovely too. Overall one of the happiest family holidays we have had.

Everything was perfect we felt very relaxed and the welcome we received made us feel at home.
