Relaxed and easygoing atmosphere. Quite a remote location, perfect if you are interested in wildlife, fantastic views, but at the same time not that far from Masham or Layburn with good shopping facilities and twice weekly market. The Cottage was was well equipped and spotlessly clean and met all Covid guidelines. It is extremely dog friendly and offered plenty of woodland tracks for our dogs to explore. The owner Claire and her husband were extremely friendly and most welcoming. This was our second visit to the Hayloft and may not be our last as it ticked all the boxes for a holiday location. It fully provided the restful peace and quiet we were longing for, in addition to being in easy reach of country walks or York and Harrogate town experiences. We recommend a trip to both the Theakston and the Black Sheep breweries which were in close proximity to the cottage and provided interesting and informative tours, delicious food and drink. Reviewed by MalcolmJul 2019 "The accommodation was excellent in all respects,." The position central for exploring both the Dales and the North York's Moors. This really was off the beaten track and the only noises to be heard were the calls of the Curlew, Lapwings and Oyster Catchers and the bleating of the sheep. Reviewed by MichaelJun 2019 "Lovely barn conversion with stunning views over Wensleydale." Tranquility at its best! There are some lovely walks straight from the cottage and it is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. It also provides a central location for visiting other places of interest in the area. Reviewed by PhilOct 2018 "Superb location especially if you like walking and take your dog with you." The cottage is really spacious and well thought out. Good choice of books, games, videos and information on the bookcase for rainy days and evenings. Really friendly owner who lives on site. Perfect base for the Dales and north Yorkshire. Did I mention the night skies? Reviewed by AndrewSep 2018 "The hosts couldnt do enough for us; in the high winds we lost electricity." They came straight around and asked if we wanted fish and chips fetching from Masham; a large flask of boiled water and a pack of delicous Thornton's shortbread were provided and we enjoyed a dinner of Wensleydale Cheeses, biscuits, red wine and chocolate by lantern. It added a touch of exciting nostalgia to our holiday to experience a World without TV and a night of good conversation uninterrupted by modern technology. The Hayloft was very comfortable; warm and the thick stone walls cut out any sound enabling us to enjoy a good restful sleep in our super kingsize beds. High on the moorland hillside we were treated to some dramatic views across Wensleydale accented by the ubiquitous sheep and drystone walls. The daily routines of the mixed herd of Red poll and Black Angus as they moved from field to field: the playful warren of rabbits and the free wandering hens and cockerel amused us no end as we drank in the view from our perch on the wide picture window ledges. A return visit will certainly be on the cards: excellent accomodation; excellent location and excellent hosts! Reviewed by TonySep 2018 "A beautiful cottage in a fantastic location." The pictures on the website don't do the cottage and the wonderful views from the windows justice! The cottage is decorated and furnished to a very high quality throughout. The owners are very welcoming and friendly with a lovely cake waiting for us on arrival. You can see lots of wildlife from the windows together with panoramic views over Wendsleydale. The cottage is ideally situated for visiting Masham, Leyburn, Middleham etc. and Jervaulx Abbey is just down the road. Reviewed by KateSep 2018 "This was a lovely cottage and we enjoyed our stay." However the facilities could have been improved by: 1, a dishwasher....the cups were quite stained when we got there and so we hand washed all the crockery and cutlery before we were willing to use them. I admit we are fussy, but a dishwasher would be helpful to the cleaners and guests for both cleanliness and convenience. 2, WiFi, although we didn't expect WiFi as it wasn't on the overview, we were surprised how much we missed not having access to the internet. Surely it would be possible and inexpensive to provide? 3, Mop and Bucket. Most of the floors were hard and a mop would have helped us keep the floors as clean as we found them, especially in the hallway after dog walks. The above would have led to top marks across the piece. I hope this feedback is accepted as constructive by the owners - as they are suggested in that spirit. The owners had clearly thought about the needs of their guests and we didn't need to bothered them but with them been onsite if we needed them or had any issues they were on hand 24/7. The location was fantastic, it was in easy reach of the small towns and villages around the Dales but remote enough to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
