Canalside Cottage

This is a lovely house/cottage and a perfect base for touring North Yorkshire.

However I feel that it should be mentioned in the details that it is unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues, The steps to access the house are mentioned but the difficult approach from the road is not. The stairs in the house are also steep without a suitable banister to grip and the steps at the top are tricky. I have rheumatoid arthritis and although quite fit at present I did find it difficult and without the help of my friends I would not have managed. We did however have a lovely visit and would recommend the house unreservedly to those fit enough to climb steps and stairs!

What a fantastic stay!

I stayed with my family and friends to attend a wedding nearby and all six of us were blown away by how beautiful the property was. The perfect location by the canal was so peaceful and beautiful. The house itself is decorated and furnished to an exceptional standard with everything you could possibly dream of needing while you’re there. Personal touches of wine, biscuits and milk in the fridge were so gratefully received and appreciated. Everything was anticipated right down to games, books and DVDs in the living room to keep us entertained on an evening. All of us agreed we would live to stay again. The only thing I was disappointed in was having to leave! Thank you so much for hosting us - we look forward to returning

This house was clean, beautifully decorated, well set out, had fantastic views and everything we needed.

We took my two children (age 7 and 13) and my Dad and we all loved it. We enjoyed the walk along the canal and the fact it was close to places we'd planned to visit such as Burnsall, Grassington, Skipton and Ilkley. We will be back!

A truly wonderful cottage, right beside the canal.

Very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. As the weather was very warm we spent most of our evenings in the garden so we were very glad for the garden furniture. The local pub was very close and also two lovely cafes. The bus stop was an easy walk which took us into Skipton to extend our walks along the canal and had very regular buses for the return journey. Overall a great holiday and we have already booked our re5urn visit.

We've stayed at this accommodation three times now.

It is very comfortable and has everything you need when away from home. For us the stand out feature is the setting - sitting in the front room you are high enough not to be bothered by cars but you can see life on the canal, the hills ahead, trains in the distance and lots of dogs being walked along the canal path.

This was a perfect cottage for our mini family holiday- the treats on arrival were a lovely surprise and the accommodation was comfortable, clean and homely.

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need, including household stuff that you don't always get - tinfoil, dishwasher tablets, tea towels etc. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom is particularly nice with a roll top bath and great shower . The garden in the shade was a welcome break from the unexpected may bank holiday heatwave. Parking is a bit tight but we managed to park two cars every time we returned to the cottage. Access to the canal is opposite the cottage and we enjoyed walking to see the boats. The only suggestion I would give is to provide some fans for unexpected hot weather - sleeping was challenging, especially with small children in the heat!!

Second stay at Canalside and loved it as much as the first.

Clean, homely feel, everything there we needed, great location for walking and cycling. Lovely little garden overlooking the canal. Thank you. Will be booking again.

We had a lovely stay at canalside cottage, the accommodation was as advertised and we were impressed particularly with everything you need for a young child as we had our year old grandson with us, even down to plates and cutlery.

We had a beautiful log fire in the evenings and a comfortable nights sleep.

Another excellent holiday at this well appointed cottages the only minor problem is temporary shortage of parking whilst emergency repairs carried out to car park

We had a wonderful week at Canalside Cottage and have already booked to return.

It had everything we needed for the week and was very comfortable and clean with great views and with the canal right opposite. Great base for cycling and walking. The cottage had a very welcoming feel and the owner kindly responded very quickly to a query we had just before our stay. Lovely side garden to sit in when weather allowed, lots of room and provision for drying our wet walking gear. We were able to park our car easily in the off road free car park just along the road. The pub just down the road does amazing food too!

We absolutely loved this cottage.

... it is clean, with comfy beds, well equipped.... lovely kitchen.... perfect position for walks. Food at White Lion pub walking distance. Beautiful view from lounge window... watching the boats on the canal. The shower was brilliant. (One tiny comment: no spare in either bathroom when it ran out.) Would totally recommend... and will book again.

Fantastic property with great views .

A very lovely and well equipped kitchen, although the oven is a little small if cooking Sunday lunch for 6 .Loved the log burner which made the cosy living room. Just to be picky it would have been great to have some foot stools .That said this is a lovely cottage in a beautiful village with lots to do in the area .We had a great time

A comfortable, very well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting beside the canal with excellent views of open countryside.

Lovely walks from the doorstep and a great base for exploring North and West Yorkshire.The pretty little garden was ideal for enjoying an evening drink as the sun went down.

This is the 2nd year running we have stayed in Canalside and once again another pleasant stay.

As we walked in a lovely welcome package of biscuits, wine and a little Yorkshire book and fridge magnet greeted us, so nice little touch. The kitchen is well catered for if you don't eat out. The beds are lovely and comfortable. So will look forward to our stay next year all being well. John.

This was a fabulous canalside cottage, as wonderful on the inside as the views out.

Lots of character, great location for walks as well as the train to Skipton & Leeds. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the kids loved it as much as the adults and we would definitely come back.

What an excellent property !

! It was immaculate throughout , with the lovely Christmas touches for this time of year . And the complimentary wine and mince pies to top it off !! We will definitely return and highly recommend it to others .

Very cosy and well equipped and very clean! A beautiful location and a very friendly village. The welcome note and pack was a really nice touch and made the cottage even more welcoming. We absolutely loved our stay here.

Lovely home from home, spotless and well kept.

Only one very minor point was the steps up to the property are very small and worn which was an issue when raining. Apart from that we all had a relaxing and enjoyable break.

And everything you could possibly need for a stay. Full marks for a superb cottage by the canal. Can highly recommend the cafe just a 5 minute walk along the canal and for nice pub grub The White Lion. Which is a two minute walk away. If you like your real ale then try Craven Brew a 10 minute walk to Cross Hills. We walked the 11 miles along the canal to Saltaire which was great and walked up on the Moors in Haworth. So much to do but ran out of time. We can highly recommend this lovely cottage by the canal. Very peaceful and the views are great.

The cottage was very well equipped, the location was perfect and it really felt like a 'home'. We would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone.

We had a fantastic and a comfortable stay at Canalside, when we arrived we had a lovely welcome back of biscuits ,milk, tea, coffee and bottle of white a lovely gesture by the owners.

The cottage was cosy, clean and the kitchen was well catered for. You have lovely views of the canal from the living room and front bedroom. Mike & Vicky have done a great job with the cottage to make it home from home. The White lion a 2 min walk from the cottage was a great village pub very welcoming and good traditional pub grub at good prices. The question is will we go back to Canalside? A big yes!! One of the best equipped properties I’ve stayed at, an impressive well thought out holiday cottage which is a credit to its owners.

Beautiful cottage in a stunning village, cosy and the furnishings, facilities etc were perfect , the view was a surprise and we loved the canal walks, we will be back next year, walk to the Old White Bear in Crosshills, cosy pub with great food and a great welcome

It was all it said it would be and the father of the owner was sooo speedy to come when we had problems with hot water.

We enjoyed and do not want to be picky but suggest the pillows and beds would benefit from being top quality. Most people only sleep in a holiday property so good quality pillows and longer beds with good mattresses are lovely whereas these beds are functional quick changeover ones. We were surprised how short they were? We are all long and have normal 6ft.6in beds. These were not and most people are getting bigger! Better information on the waste and bin collection is needed because we did not want to wheel a huge cumbersome bin down the steps for less than a third of a black bin liner! As it is the cleaner advised the father of the owner would take the refuse bag, as normal, but we felt we had not done what we should but we are hale and hearty - no older person could have done the bins so just kindly tell users that a black bag at the bottom of the steps is fine!

It was a great property in a good location.

Great base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. Lovely local cafe a few minutes walk away and a good local pub. Also a co-op within walking distance which is very handy.

Canalside Cottage is located in the small village of Farnhill just 3 miles from Skipton in a perfect spot overlooking the canal.

It is very comfortable, extremely well equipped and very clean. The accommodation is exactly as described and all the instructions and information were easy to follow. Detailed welcome pack very well presented on arrival. Perfect base for exploring Yorkshire and equally fun just watching the narrow boats from the lounge meander along the canal outside. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend for a stay any time of year.

A very comfortable and enjoyable stay in this delightful cottage.

We loved sitting by the front door watching the barges go by. Cottage is very well equipped. All stairs are steep as mentioned but manageable with care.

We loved our time here!

Parking availability was great! Food truck down the street was wonderful! (Only caveat for older visitors is that no toilet on ground floor means lots of stairs if you’re spending time around the cottage. We were out often so not a deal-breaker by any means.) Beds & linens were exceptional. Fun to watch canalboats going by. Everything needed was available. Thanks for wonderful comfortable stay!

This is a well equipped, cosy cottage in a lovely village, ideally situated for canal walks.

Skipton is ten miles round. You can shorten the walk by parking in Radley or walking to Radley. The absence of a toilet downstairs did not cause us much inconvenience. A quibble. We would certainly book again as the weather unfortunately was too poor for us to strike out into the hills and dales. Still left us a lot to do there. Skipton is a lovely town. Staycation heaven!

A very well equipped and comfortable cottage.

Suggestions would be for waste bins in the bedrooms. A mirror in the attic bedroom. A shelf near the washbasin in the main bathroom. Some kind of pouffe in the lounge to enable sitting with your feet up. This has been our second visit - we would be happy to come again. Many thanks, Jennifer E Burston.

Brilliant house.

We loved staying here because it felt like a home. It was warm, inviting and comfy. Immaculately clean, everything you could need and more, great views, lovely strolls along the canal, easy access to other places.

Splendid location for walks along the canal or into the hills.

Log burner was a big plus for our winter booking, though house was warm anyway. The owners helpfully secured the shed so we could securely store a cycle there.

Great holiday cottage in a wonderful location, peaceful and restful.

We had great walks from the cottage and went further to visit the other areas of interest, could have done with a map, so would recommend to other holiday makers. Thankyou for providing every we needed!

Loverly cottage, large bed room in the attic which we loved.

Very relaxing with great views of the cannel and county side. Public Parking just to the side property which worked fine. Well located within easy reach of tourists attractions.

Lovely cottage, very comfortable and with all the things you might need and great instructions to go with them.

The little garden looking over the canal was beautiful and a great place to enjoy a glass of wine (provided, thank you) while watching the boats go past. Although not a problem for us it might be useful for other visitors to know that the steps from the road up to the front door are very steep and narrow.

Canalside Cottage is amazing.

Every room is furnished in style with quality and comfort in mind, and every need appears to have been anticipated. It is a beautiful and spacious cottage with plenty of room for everyone. It is in a lovely village location, overlooking the canal and convenient for larger towns. The perfect place - we hope to return - thank you.

The cottage was lovely.

Spacious yet cosy, very well equipped, clean and comfy. The main bathroom could do with a shower cubicle as the over the bath unit makes everything very wet. Otherwise fabulous. We loved our stay and would visit again.

Fantastic cottage in a beautiful area.

The cottage was clean and tidy and very well provisioned with equipment, games and DVDs, and plenty of information to make the stay successful.

The garden and its outside furniture was lovely, and the site is terrific. The bedrooms were lovely. Our main criticism was the uncomfortable settees in the lounge - the purple settee had re-stuffed cushions that were very bumpy and hard to sit on and the grey settee's cushions kept sliding forward so it was impossible to sit on it for long without having to adjust them. The shower in the ensuite on the top floor filled when using the shower, as it seemed slow to drain away but had really good pressure. We loved the freestanding bath in the first floor bathroom. We had no need to use the log fire, but there was ample provision of kindling and wood. As there is no shop in the village, a welcome 1 pt of milk in the fridge would have been handy to go with the teabags and coffee that was already there!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cottage.

It was really comfortable and spacious with a good sized kitchen. The view from the lounge of the fields in the distance and the barges sailing along the canal were amazing. The shower in the main bathroom was not very practical as it had no holder or shower curtain and was difficult to use without splashing the floor and walls. This necessitated us having to use the ensuite bathroom which was a little inconvenient since there were four in our party. The hot water boiler stopped on several occassions but we were able to reset it, Indeed this seemed to be a regular occurrence from other reviews. R Craig

We were very happy with the cottage which was well decorated and presented and well situated.

We found having two fridges very helpful as we were 2 parts of one family. We liked having a kitchen table big enough for us all 5 of us to eat at. It was great having two bathrooms. It was comfortable and enjoyable to stay in. We would certainly recommend it. The only very minor problems were the tin opener which didn’t work, only one tea towel and one of the burners on the gas cooker (front left) wasn’t running smoothly. The hot water boiler stopped one day but we were able to reset it. So a really nice holiday home and we had a very enjoyable holiday.

Spectacular views and the cottage had everything that we could have asked for and more. It was a perfect location only 10 minutes from Skipton. We had a fabulous meal at The Slaters Arms in Bradley, a lovely local pub with spectacular sunset views. We also loved Keelham Farm Shop which did a fantastic breakfast. well maintained clean and a joy to live in. the house is in the attractive village of Farnhill and looks onto the passing traffic on the leeds liverpool canal with great views across Airedale.

Crumbs on kitchen surface. Had to clean and put on dishwasher moment arrived. Crumbs and ?dog hair on rug in front room Would have benefitted from some milk in the fridge on arrival as a welcome. Couldn’t even have a cup of tea. Other than this the property was lovely - great location, very spacious and would recommend with a few tweaks and the option of a stair gate as the top stair a potential fall risk.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a beautiful well equipped cottage in a fantastic location, the only one criticism would be that the shower in the main bathroom in the beautiful freestanding cast iron bath has no holder or shower screen/curtain and is difficult to use without splashing all the walls and floor so we all ended up using the shower in the ensuite bathroom.

This did not really affect our stay and if you were a bath rather than shower type person you would love the bath

A wonderful hidden gem in the dales.

Perfect in every way, spacious yet cosy with a lovely garden to sit in and watch the sun go down. Cottage so nicely appointed, very well furnished and equipped, we were challenging each other to think of something they hadn't provided, and couldn't!! Great relaxing views over the canal and hills beyond, pub in walking distance and essential supplies at the nearby garage. Definitely now on our 'go to list' for short breaks and possibly retirement if the owner ever sells!!

The cottage was absolutely perfect.

Really well equipped and the location was great. The bedrooms were all good sizes and the big island in the kitchen made preparing meals a doddle. There are great walks from the house up onto the fells behind the property and also some flatter walks down the canal. We had a great week!

Our stay at canalside cottages was very enjoyable.

we have stayed there before , last november 2018 . The cottage is excellent, easy access to various towns and cities . The cottage is well equipped with everything we needed. It is warm and inviting on a cold day in november. I would recommend this cottage to friends and family. We hope to stay again next year.

Lovely cottage, beautiful views and very comfortable.

Had absolutely everything we needed. My only gripe is that the pictures present as a very rural and quiet area and you can not see that there is a major road very nearby which was noisy.

This is a great holiday cottage in fab location.

The property is very rustic and homely, the only thing to note is that like a lot of older properties of this type the stairs are narrowing and sheepish otherwise it's super. Good enough that we have rebooked for next year

Cottage was really nice had everything u could need, it was warm and comfortable

Very satisfied with all aspects of the cottage except the garden .

It did not give a good impression as we arrived due to poor maintenance. Would have been nice to sit outside . Seating was available but was covered with a dirty tarpaulin . Weeds very evident . Would have been nice to consider a barbecue area in good weather. Would also benefit from a proper shower in the main bathroom. Very awkward trying to to use the unsupported shower hose which was part of the bath tap assembly. Had to hold the shower in your hand and try not to wet the bathroom floor !

Canal Cottage provided the perfect venue for our May holiday.

The cottage itself was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The hosts were very accommodating and kind. The area was central to allow us to complete day trips to Ripon, Whitby, the Dales and the Moors. Skipton is a lovely market town where we boarded the train for an overnight trip to Scotland. Nature walks along the canal were spectacular and we enjoyed feeding the ducks and swans, and watching the narrow boats navigate through the swing bridges. If we could change anything about our visit to England at Canal Cottage it would be to have stayed longer!! I am so glad we found Sykes Cottages and Canal Cottage. Nancy and Alan Hines

We loved this cottage, great for our 3 generations.

Enjoyed the log fire on cold evenings and walks along the canal. The children enjoyed watching the boats from the window and helping to open the swing bridge.

The cottage was well presented and very well equipped.

The location was perfect for touring in the Skipton area. Only a 5 minute walk to the local pub which offered very good food.

Apart from being a perfect setting.

The cottage was a very homely place with its pictures and little ornamental bits and pieces and felt very welcoming. Ideally situated for sight seeing around Yorkshire. Not too far from anywhere.
