The Gatehouse

We stayed for a week over Christmas.

Our hosts, Rodger and Hilary, could not have been more helpful and attentive to detail. From the lovely Christmas tree, to the Christmas kitchen items such as Christmas napkins and tinfoil baking trays, and, most appreciated, a bottle of prosecco, they had thought of everything. There were plenty of logs available for the logfire, although the central heating was actually perfectly adequate for us. The parking space is also a great plus Middleham is such a pleasant friendly village with good pubs and not far from interesting places to visit. We had a very pleasant Christmas break and can recommend the Gatehouse without hesitation

Greeted at the property by the friendly host on arrival, very comfortable stay in a convenient location for walking/hiking.

Shop, chip shop, 2/3 pubs and restaurant within a few hundred metres and of course the castle.

A very nice cottage in a beautiful part of Yorkshire.

We were met by the owner and given a very warm welcome Accommodation very clean except for the oven which had sticky shelves and needed a good clean. The Wet Room needs a hand-hold for safety reasons, especially for the elderly and perhaps a seat or at least a foot stool. A chair in the bedrooms would be nice. Other than these minor points was very good and I would book again.

The cottage is lovely and comfortable, so relaxing and peaceful. Lovely location with friendly pub Richard 3rd serving food. Sadly the other pub The Dante which served food was closed during our stay but is due to reopen. Lovely friendly grocery shop and two vintage shops. Not far away from amazing places to visit like Forbidden Corner and lovely market towns. No difficulty parking at the cottage as had an allocated space. Overall a lovely place to stay and would highly recommend.

We loved our stay and will certainly stay there next time we are having a short break in the area.

Both Roger and Hillary were very friendly and helpful each time we spoke to them Roger met us as soon as we arrived and he helped carry our bags in befire showing us around, explaining where everything was and how to operate the boiler and log burning stove etc. The beds were very comfortable, kitchen had everything we needed and the upstairs lounge was so toasty and warm we didn't need to use the log burner. The property is well decorated and maintained and we had no complaints at all about our stay. Roger also went though the various recommended pubs and eating places in the information folder they provide. Certainly the 3 pubs in Middleham we went to were excellent (Black Bull doesn't do food but has very nice beer). The food and beer in both the Richard III and The Dante was very nice indeed, and the staff in all 3 places were very friendly and welcoming. The local village shop is ideally located and open from early till late most days and the Chip Shop has excellent reviews but we didn't get a chance to try them.

I can't say enough positive things about our stay at the Gatehouse.

Lovely owners, fantastic location and a great house. To top it off we were given advice on a local walk and pub. Both amazing although still feeling the walk! We will definitely be back.

Lovely cottage in a quite peaceful setting, nice little village the local pub Richard 111 offers a warm friendly welcome and the food is first class can highly recommend sunday lunch.

Rodger made us very welcome and as he lived next door was able to help with minor problems as they occurred.

Very conveniently situated in the heart of the village and very quiet.

07/7/23 Loved the cottage very clean and everything you needed big walk in showers nice courtyard garden to sit in.

rodger the host very nice man cottage is located realy well near pubs shops and walks we caught the local bus a few times.stop just up the road to Richmond Leyburn Ripon. Forbidden corner well worth a visit even for adults. hawes is a lovely place to visit we had a fantastic stay thankyou rodger

The Gatehouse was a great location for our holiday.

It was especially good for us to be in a small town as we live really rural with no nearby facilities, so we enjoyed two minutes to the shops and ten seconds to the pub. The castle was only a few minutes away too which was great. The house was very comfortable and cosy with most things you are likely to need. The showers were excellent, with easy to control temperature and a good forceful drenching. The rooms were spacious and well presented and the beds were comfortable. The only niggle was the hit and miss internet and dreadful sound quality of the telly. This was a very nice holiday with lots near by. I would return.

The accommodation was exactly as billed.

Comfortable, will good quality fixtures and fittings and very well located in the Dales. Rodger was kindly, knowledgeable and discreet as a host. We are very happy to recommend this holiday property.

Very friendly and helpful owners of a comfortable, cosy, well located cottage in a lively historic village at the centre of Coverdale, a picturesque area with a variety of excellent walks and welcoming old coal fired inns serving good ales with a range of eating from tasty, filling grub to more sophisticated dining experiences.

What a fabulous place to stay.

My sister and I loved the Gatehouse....immaculately clean, perfectly furnished, quiet and just a two minute stroll to the centre of the village. Wonderfully warm and cosy with safe parking. Hilary and Roger are the perfect hosts....very highly recommended.

Very convenient but still quiet location. Everything at the property was excellent.

We enjoyed the location of the property, it provided easy access to The Dales and various other attractions.

At first sight the property seemed great but closer inspection revealed it needed a deep clean and some other attention. We left a detailed list of matters we noticed for the owner as he wasn’t present when we left. The owner was very helpful and provided information regarding walks and local facilities - good pubs! He also carried our cases for us which was much appreciated and left us a bottle of wine.

Lovely cottage in Middleham with lots to do and see in North Yorkshire.

Hosts welcoming and ensured our stay was comfortable. Middleham has a castle and 4 pubs - all offering food and drink, also boasting a village shop which was handy. Would definitely return to this lovely part of Middleham.

Our stay at The Gatehouse was lovely in every way a beautiful cottage in a great location the owners there to greet us and make sure we had everything we needed.

The personal welcome by Roger was much appreciated and the information he imparted was First class.

Hosts insisted on carrying all our baggage in when it was pouring down, couldn’t fault the property, nice bottle of wine waiting for us.

A very comfortable property, beautiful kitchen, nice bedrooms both with good en-suites, and a lovely spacious sitting room upstairs.

Some cottages skimp on the heating, not this one, toasty!

Perfect location in a really lovely village. The locals are friendly and the walks are awesome. Especially loved the Gallops, outstanding scenery and the added bonus of seeing racehorses training. Would definitely recommend.

The Gate House is in the perfect location for the Dales.

The owners couldn’t do enough for us. The accommodation was fully stocked with everything we needed. We will definitely return if they’ll have us!

The house was lovely and the owners really nice and very helpful.

The house was well equipped and situated in a lovely village with good amenities. Middleton is easy to get to and was well situated to have easy access to go out and about exploring the area. We would certainly go back to The Grove.

A beautiful cottage in our favourite location.

Never knew this little gem was hidden in the market square. The owners are friendly and helpful. Even though the weather was not good, we managed to fit in a long walk each day and enjoy our acommodation each evening. Another plus was seeing Le Toure of Yorkshire on Sunday. We will certainly return to The Coach House later this year! Highly recommended.

Apart from an excellent property the location was first class

We had a great welcome from Rodger, the owner.

He showed us round this delightful cottage. We had a wonderful week there and some excellent meals out nearby in the square.

A lovely cottage, good access to the village which has a general shop, pubs serving food and some beautiful walks.

It is really hard to find accommodation to suit two couples, this has two double bedrooms and two en suites, it is very well equipped - everything you want for a long weekend away.

The cottage was very warm and comfortable. It is close to pubs and restaurants. There are several walks from the door.Also there is a bus service to Leyburn, Richmond and Ripon. Wi-fi performed well.

It is in a good location with 4 local pubs serving food. There are great walks in the local area. The owner was very welcoming and told us about things to do in the area.

The Cottage was brilliant and being in a village made all he difference for us. As we were pretty central we could get out and about without too much driving.
