Wirksworth is a small, charming market town situated just a few miles from Matlock, on the edge of the White Peak. Wirksworth is full of character with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient “jitties” and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, along with the Heritage Centre, as well as the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there is good walking all around. Well Dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival. The annual Arts festival attracts international performers of every kind. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath with its spectacular cable car, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. Only 2 miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. In all, Wirksworth is a great location for a varied holiday.

Wirksworth 1.7 miles. A lovely semi-detached cottage, next to the owner's home, in the hamlet of Hopton, 1.7 miles from Wirksworth, with wonderful views over Carsington Water. This Peak District cottage has been finished to an extremely high standard, with lots of character including open stonework and beams. The sitting room of this Peak District cottage is very cosy and a well-equipped kitchen, four comfortable bedrooms and the attractive blending of old and new throughout, make this a beautiful Peak District cottage to stay in. There is a pretty garden with seating area, perfect for relaxing and taking in the views surrounding this Peak District cottage. The cycle hire, watersports and walking trails of Carsington Water are available from the visitors' centre 2 miles away from this Peak District cottage, while slightly further afield yet within 15 minutes' drive are Ashbourne, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock. A superb base for a Peaks holiday.
