  • "The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable."

The owner was very helpful and informative about the area. We enjoyed many walks in the area and visiting many of the beautiful castles and gardens. We also enjoyed a very interesting visit to Aberdeen.

  • "Lovely cottage in a spectacular location."

Well-finished and tastefully decorated. The photos barely do it justice. Well equipped, though we could have done with a chopping board, scales and a whisk. During the coldest June in decades we were grateful for the central heating which came on simply by adjusting the thermostat.

Hi David, Thank for your positive feedback, we are delighted that you liked The Bothy. We will investigate the whereabouts of whisk and chopping boards, which were certainly present and correct last time we checked! Our apologies that you were unable to locate these. Your suggestion of providing scales is a good one that we will act on. Worth a mention here that in our welcome notes, we provide both our mobile numbers and there is usually someone at home next door in "The Steading". We are very happy to take calls about things like this and do our best to quickly remedy any issues, or help our guests in any way that we can (within reason!). Property Owner

Fantastic views from the Bedroom balcony, only wish we had more appropriate weather to make use of it. Lots of nice walks to be had. Train line is very close but we did not find this any sort of problem. 2 walkable pubs with very friendly locals.

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Bothy which was very comfortable & had lovely views."

I was a bit disappointed that the local beach (which was very close) was not really very good for swimming and also that the train line was so close to the Bothy and the trains were quite regular.

Hi Kay, Firstly my apologies for the slow feedback response. We are delighted that you had a lovely stay at The Bothy. Sorry if the beach caused disappointment, we have had one or two very brave souls who have gone in swimming here, but admittedly North East Scotland does not compare with the Med for sea bathing. It may be worth a comment that our location is surrounded by farmland and spectacular sea views, but also adjacent (across valley) to Newtonhill with it's attendant transport infrastructure. We are 12 minutes from central Aberdeen and roughly the same to Stonehaven, so amenities and places of interest are close at hand. Best Wishes, Neil & Irene. Property Owner

  • "We had a great break staying at The Bothy."

It is a lovely little house in a beautiful location and the owners Neil & Irene provided all the modern amenities you might need. The Bathroom is modern, clean and fully fitted with bath and shower over the bath. One thing to note is the bathroom is on the ground floor and the bedrooms are on the 1st floor just in case this may be an issue for anyone. There is a nice little area around the house with a secluded bench seat and table, a small decked patio area at the front of the house and a nice little balcony on the main bedroom. The surrounding area is really beautiful, we travelled with our dog and he loved the long morning and evening walks along the stunning coastline cliffs and hillsides. The house is nice and secluded and peaceful with no noisy neighbours only Neil & Irene the owners who live in the neighbouring Steadings house. They are friendly and helpful but never intrude upon your visit in any way.

Hi Keith, we are delighted that both of you and also Winston enjoyed your visit to the Bothy so much. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this feedback, which I'm sure will be of interest to others contemplating a stay. We'd be delighted so see you again in the future. Could not find a can opener? Tiles at kitchen area and bath need regrout as looks a bit mouldy. Good size bedrooms with beds OK. Downstairs very snug if there had been 4 people. Nice enough wee place just.wee details to fix

We feel it necessary to provide a response to this feedback, on reading our other guest reviews it is very evident The Bothy scores highly regarding cleanliness, we have provided Sykes Cottages current pictures of the tiles in the property to show no mould present, if any future guests have any concerns, they are welcome to contact Sykes to view these. We have found no issues with the TV upstairs, this is working correctly. On inspecting the property we were unable to find the tin opener, this has now been replaced. In the event of any issues arising during a guests stay, there is normally someone resident next door at The Steading's who can attend and assist. The owners mobile phone numbers are provided in the property, and guests are most welcome to call or text so that issues may be quickly resolved. Property Owner
