  • "The property was easy enough to find, although you’ll definitely need a 4x4 to get down the track leading to it."

Once you arrive, the place does look impressive from the outside. We were informed on arrival that the owners live on-site in the East Wing, which is worth noting. Unfortunately, the experience inside didn’t quite match expectations. The games room was freezing cold, and this continued throughout the property—the downstairs suite, second floor suite, and even the top floor suite were all very cold. The top floor in particular felt damp and had a noticeable musty smell. I asked the owner about the heating and was told it was being sorted, but it never really improved during our stay. We weren’t able to use the games room much because the heating didn’t work, making it too uncomfortable. We also requested wood for the fire, which was available to purchase at £10 per bag, but it never arrived, so we had to go out and buy our own from Morrisons. The log burner in the top suite also seemed neglected—we couldn’t open it, likely due to damp affecting the door. There were several occasions (three or four times) where we had to ask the owner to fix the heating and hot water, as both stopped working. Towards the end of the stay, it felt like our requests were being ignored. The laundry room is also kept locked unless you specifically ask for access. The photos on the Sykes website make the property look bright and inviting, but in reality it felt quite dark and musty in places. The garden area is shared, and while there was no BBQ or pizza oven available, that may be due to the time of year rather than oversight. On the positive side, the surrounding grounds are well maintained and great for walks—just be mindful of the owners’ dogs and any mess. There is plenty of parking available, although it’s not right next to the house. The location itself is excellent for exploring the area, and renting all three apartments worked well for our group as it allowed us to have our own space while still spending time together. A few improvements that would make a big difference: adding wardrobes for clothing and installing handrails in some of the showers. Overall, while the setting and layout have great potential, the lack of heating, dampness, and maintenance issues made the stay less comfortable than expected. Inverurie is a very nice place and would recommend Edwards Bar for food and drink and friendly staff. Asian Kitchen is also amazing if wanting a take away would give this a 9/10.
