The property exceeded our expectations, the photographs on the website didn’t do it justice.

Wonderful peaceful location yet handy for mount Snowdon, Caernarfon, Conwy etc. The kitchen and living room is quite spacious with everything you could possibly need for eating inside or out on the picturesque patio. There is also a local pub Y Glyntwrog Inn where there is a friendly welcome and decent food.

My wife and I have now stayed at Yr Hen Oriel three times since 2024 and would thoroughly recommend the accommodation and its location.

The tastefully converted barn lies within the owner’s personal property, amidst farmland with peaceful, relaxing views. The property is well-appointed and spotlessly clean. Snowdon, Caernarvon, Bangor and Anglesey are all within easy reach. We highly recommend the property for a North Wales stay.

Gorgeous property surrounded by fields with sheep and farm animals, lovely big drive, spacious open planned layout which is just what we like.

Welcome hamper which was a thoughtful touch. Folder inside cottage with all the info you needed. Fabulous bath tub! If they added a hot tub behind, it would be even better! Lovely friendly owner to lives in the house Infront. Ideal location close to everything. Well equipped for self catering however a few extra items would make it even better, such as rack in the shower to put your shampoo and bits in. A blanket offering for the sofa for the colder evenings, a full length mirror ..... A extra frying pan and oven dish would have been useful too. Fridge and freezer was small which was tricky for someone like me who has a lot of diet issues and makes everything from scratch, luckily there was a wine fridge which I had to use as extra fridge space but if there hadn't been that, I would have struggled, maybe something larger fitted? Especially for those staying for two weeks or with kids, it's hard to fit what you need. But over all, a really lovely stay with super comfy beds and useful wash room, would definitely stay again

Amazing accommodation.

Beautifully furnished and carefully thought through. Plenty of great walks, hiking and bike rides in the area.

Myself, husband and our children (2, age 6 and 9) stayed here over August bank holiday last year (yes just getting round to writing my review : ) and it was beautiful, quiet and serene. The cottage itself is beautifully done inside, modern and rustic. And the owners provide everything you could possibly need in the kitchen to cook and keep it clean. The weather was abit drizzly when we stayed but the utility/boot room next to the main cottage was so handy to store our suitcases, dry coats and an outside tap to wash muddy wellies, such a nice touch! The kids had a single bed each in their room which were not positioned together, with their own bedside table each and bathroom area, which they absolutely loved, it’s so hard to find in a lot of places separate beds for the kids as we find when booking as a family. Plus night lights are plugged in all over which is great for kids. Please note the bathrooms are part of the bedrooms, and are separated off with screens. Not a problem for us. Just shut the bedroom door when showering! : ) The wood burner was so cosy, and the owners very kindly left us a basket of goodies. A lovely area to visit too in Wales. We hope to come back. So yes one of our favourite cottage finds! 5 stars from us. Xxx

Our family had a truly wonderful stay at this cottage.

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by its charm—it felt like a home away from home. The cottage is the best we’ve ever stayed in: cosy, spotlessly clean, beautifully presented, and clearly cared for with great thought and attention to detail. It was a pleasure to meet the host during our stay. Their warmth and kindness made us feel incredibly welcome, and the thoughtful touches—such as the beautiful Christmas decorations and the welcome gift—made our experience even more special. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, made lovely memories, and would not hesitate to return. Highly, highly recommended!

It's spotlessly clean, warm, well-equipped and in a wonderfully peaceful location within easy reach of Anglesey, Snowdonia and the other North Wales attractions. The owners are really friendly – they left us goodies and had the log burner on ready for our arrival – and live in a separate house next door so are on hand should you need them. Highly recommended.

I particularly like quiet detached properties, this was perfect. The coast, Anglesey and gorgeous inland villages are within easy reach. I loved the high ceilings. Listening to the rain on the veluxe window whilst cosy and warm was a joy. Well equipped, it had everything I needed. Very comfortable bed too, I slept brilliantly. I genuinely did not want to leave!

A stunning property hidden in the Welsh countryside, Yr Hen Oriel was the perfect accommodation for our trip.

Spacious and comfortable, it felt like coming home, which was especially nice after days out in the rather wet Welsh weather. The host was welcoming and friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Five stars doesn’t do this place justice. It raises the bar for what to expect from a holiday cottage, and we look forward to returning in the future

Very clean and comfortable barn.

if I had to express a negative it would be the fact that there wasn't a tumble dryer. Ideally situated for most of the attractions that North wales has to offer. I would definitely recommend and rate this property 4.9 stars.

This was a lovely place to stay in tranquil surroundings, easy access to all the things we wanted to do in North Wales.

A fantastic property!

We loved staying there and really appreciated the design and decor. Everything was very comfortable and easy to use. This was a fabulous base for our holiday. The only small comment, particularly after a long drive, is that it would be nice to provide milk and we thought there really ought to be soap in the bathrooms. Minor points, and overall, we had a great time.

The property is gorgeous.

Spotlessly clean and by far the most comfortable accommodation we have ever stayed in. The beds are so comfy and the sofa’s fabulous. The cottage has everything we could need and everything is good quality. The location is beautiful and the hosts are friendly but not intrusive at all.

An ideal location for a North Wales holiday within easy reach of Snowdon, Caernarvon, Bangor, Anglesey.

My wife and I have now stayed at Yr Hen Oriel twice in the past eight months and would thoroughly recommend the accommodation and its location. The tastefully converted barn is well-appointed, spotlessly clean, and lies within idyllic farmland and countryside. This is a gem, not to be missed.

This was an ideal place to explore all the places we were visiting.

It was a quiet, beautiful setting and a comfortable, cosy house. The owners were so friendly and helpful and we highly recommend it.

However, it is within easy reach of Snowdon, Caernarvon, Bangor, Anglesey and many other locations. The property is beautifully presented, tidy and spotlessly clean, with high quality, modern facilities. The open plan arrangements in the well-appointed kitchen, dining area and living space work well. Although there are no wardrobes, there are plenty of drawers in the bedrooms and the owners provided a clothes rail for our use. The bathroom and toilet facilities are idiosyncratic but entirely practical. The utility room was extremely useful for drying wet outdoor clothes and washing. The table and chairs in the enclosed garden provided a nice outdoor space when weather permitted. We would highly recommend the property for a North Wales stay.

Had a lovely relaxing stay here as a family of 4 with children aged 3 & 6.

I was worried about the toilets / bathrooms in the bedrooms and that there weren’t any wardrobes but actually it was fine - the huge drawers in the main bedroom catered for us all. Loved the open plan living with the modern facilities such as wine cooler, dishwasher, oven etc. We loved the cottage so much we didn’t eat out once we cooked every evening and took advantage of the cosy environment. The property was quite hard to find so check the directions given ! The welcome basket was also lovely treat. We loved how close it was to Llanberis and spent lots of time exploring. We will be back!

Gorgeous property, stunning setting and amazingly clean!

We have had the best holiday and can’t wait to return. Only very small thing to improve our stay would be a list of the things we need to bring like soap and hair dryer.

The property was perfect.

Location was great, spotlessly clean, well equipped and beautifully decorated. Welcome ‘Croeso’ basket was a lovely touch and much appreciated after a long journey. Felt completely relaxed after our stay and would not consider staying anywhere else in the area in future.

Lovely cottage in a very peaceful location but situated only a stones throw away from plenty of places to visit.

Comfy chairs and bed for relaxing after a busy day out. Owners Maria and family live close by and are at hand if needed, but not intrusive. Welcome basket a nice suprise, thankyou. If the weather is kind, lovely table and chairs to sit in suntrap garden, with a glass of something. Listen to the birds and sheep and unwind. A shout out for the local Morrisons in Caenarfon, a short journey away to get supplies. Also the Glentwrog pub at the end of the lane with lovely friendly staff, good choice of drinks and selection of meals both light and substantial. Just a note for information, no wardrobe for hanging clothes, so pack for convenience. Thankyou for a lovely, peaceful week.

Such a beautiful quaint cottage in a lovely location. Great base for exploring Snowdon and Anglesey. Very relaxing in a gorgeous setting overlooking a field of lambs. Had everything we needed to feel at home with lovely little touches from the host. The cottage was spotless, felt like we were the first people to stay. Loved soaking in the gorgeous bath after climbing Snowdon.

We had a wonderful stay over Christmas.

Hosts were welcoming and so lovely! They added so many little touches, including a Christmas tree. We weathered a few storms, but the cottage was super cosy, especially with the wood burner lit. The kitchen was really well equipped, and the bed was really cosy. Everything was a really high standard, the perfect festive treat. I would love to come back and stay again, thank you!

Superbly laid out and equipped property.

Suited our (myself and my son) requirements perfectly and to a high degree of comfort. Yr Hen Oriel is in a private and quiet location which gave us the break we wanted. The separate utility room was a real bonus and added to our relaxing break.

We knew the bathroom layout was quirky but staying as a couple it was fine, I’m not sure though if there were more people.

Would benefit from towel hooks by the shower. Finally the location was a little hard to find and we didn’t get the same location using the what 3 words provided. These are just minor points as it is gorgeous, really good location with lots to do, brilliant hosts and we had a lovely time, thank you! EV charger really convenient too.

Excellent stay - very friendly family.

The cottage is lovely, just the right size, beautifully furnished and although set within the grounds of their house you are very much separate and left to enjoy your holiday. The surrounding countryside was also a plus for us being from the city - seeing/hearing the wildlife was a treat for the kids. Excellent location for visiting various parts of north wales! Would highly recommend and would definitely return. Thank you :)

Lovely cottage in a dream location.

Had a fantastic 3 night stay at Yr Hen Oriel.

Perfect location within easy reach of Llanberis and the surrounding villages. Beautiful scenery and some excellent driving roads. We stayed here as a base for a track day on Anglesey. The driveway to the property was a little challenging in our car (911 GT3) but with the front axle lift we were able to make it without leaving any of the car behind! The property itself was spotless and had everything you could need for a break. We will be back. Also not mentioned on the overall spec but there is an electric charging point on the property.

Our holiday cottage was excellent and spotlessly clean.

The owners were welcoming and happy to chat about places to visit, things to do but also allowed us privacy. The cottage was perfectly located for walking/visiting Snowdonia and stunning sunsets from the garden We would definitely return .

Beautiful location and standard of home. The owners are very welcoming and friendly, but not in your face. Every possible need is met at this property and most everything seemed new. Beds are very comfy and all very, very clean. All in all an easy 10/10 would definately recommend and very much hope to come back one day.

The cottage is just as described, tastefully furnished and lovely and warm in a beautiful setting. Pluses for us were the EV charger, laundry and drying facilities, comfortable beds and good hot showers. Unfortunately we didn't need to use the log burner as we were plenty warm enough.

This is a fabulous place. A beautiful, peaceful setting and a wonderful property inside. We will definitely be back for a third visit

Staying here made for a great weeks holiday.

The location is wonderful, and cottage lovely with real character. Friendly owners too. More crockery & cutlery would be a good addition to save on dishwasher use. My car is lower than most, which concerned me when accessing the cottage, due to tall grass etc in the middle on small roads etc.

I brought my dad to Ye Hen Oriel for his 84th birthday.

He loved it. The accommodation is beautiful, just as pictured. Comfortable beds and everything you need for a week away. The cottage is surrounded by trees so you wake up to birdsong and the sounds of nearby sheep, so peaceful. We received a welcome basket on arrival and our host came to check we were OK and settled and to let us know we could get in touch if we needed anything. We were also pleased to find fresh laid eggs we could take for £1 a box if we wanted them. We were lucky with the weather despite the forecast. Snowdonia is lovely with lots to do nearby, we visited some glorious castles and the national slate museum. All in all this was a wonderful holiday.

A stunning property, immaculately presented, in a beautiful setting.

We would highly recommend staying here. Lots of things to do in the area. We were made to feel really welcome by the owners.

Fabulous place.

We have been staying in self accommodation for over 30 years and this is up there at the top. The position is secluded and rural, look out for the pair of Jays which are flying around. The inside is extremely clean and the fixtures and fittings are top quality, exactly ( if not better) than the website pictures. We will definitely make a return visit.

This cottage is in a convenient location for exploring North Wales and is beautifully clean, cosy and warm.

Very comfortable beds and we soon got used to having the bathrooms in the bedrooms although that did feel a little odd to start with. On the the down side we found the TV to be too high up on the wall for comfortable viewing. And the cottage would greatly benefit from a better selection of crockery, glasses and cutlery - one of each item per person meant constant washing up!

The property is in a fantastic location as a pivot between Caernarfon ( castle caffi’s), Anglesey ( beaches, red squirrels ) and Snowdon ( climbing, kayaking ) and come fully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing and / or active break in North Wales.

Spent a great week in this lovely, clean, stylish property.

Great location for exploring Snowdonia and surrounding areas. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed breakfast on the patio most days in the pretty private garden watching the sheep and recent lambs. Hot tub would be a perfect addition here. The welcome basket was a nice touch and the property has all you need and is very comfortable. Our only suggestion would be an addition of hanging rails in bedrooms as there is nowhere to hang your clothes although plenty of drawers. We would stay again and recommend the property after such a great holiday.

Amazing property in an amazing location.

Close to local amenities, pubs etc. and close to Llanberis. Looking to book again as we were so impressed. Hopefully we are as lucky with the weather next time!

We had a wonderful stay at Yr Hen Oriel.

The weather was pretty dreadful (February during a national storm!) but coming back to the cosy cottage was lovely each day. The wood-burning stove and the under-floor heating made sure we stayed warm. The owners were really friendly and helpful, and were available when we needed them. It is a great location in which to explore Snowdonia. We are a family of 4, and I would say that due to the bathrooms being in the bedrooms, it is probably best for families to stay in. This was perfect for us. We would definitely consider coming back. Thanks so much!

Stunning accommodation.

Extremely clean and comfortable. Great location and near to many attractions. The owners were very welcoming. Only suggestion would be for there to be more cutlery and crockery in the accommodation.
