  • "We love it here and look forward to returning."

Windygates offers us a perfect getaway with cosy accommodation and great local facilities, not to mention a beautiful beach at the bottom of the garden. We intend to keep coming every year so please don't tell anyone else about it

  • "Once again a lovely stay in Windygates with its inherent charm and period character."

Perfect for lovers of the outdoors, fantastic location on the beach, very functional layout and suitably equipped apartment. A range of services are a few minutes walk including bar / restaurant, post office and general store, chop shop, chemist etc.

  • "Windygates is a big roomy house, with the exception of the kitchen which is frustratingly small with very little room to work, the utensils and crockery are very limited, we were a party of four and only had three plates, 3 cups plus an odd one just as an example, the shower room is also very cramped and the whole place is in dire need of a facelift."

A small gate at the bottom of the yard would make it secure so the dogs could be let out without having to be on leads. On the good side the beds are comfy and the living area is spacious but the thing that brings people back is its location the views are spectacular and the sunsets amazing. Would we go back Mmmm, probably that view is addictive.

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the location of the property and the views. We were very sorry to read about the lack of plates etc. during your stay. We can not establish why that could have happened (we do not live on site). Our housekeeper has replaced the missing items. In regards to refurbishment, we are on a continuous cycle of replacement of equipment fittings etc. Unfortunately there is little that can be done about the layout. Windygates is an Edwardian house and we try and keep the feel in keeping with the many original features. It is advertised and priced as simple beach side accommodation. Property Owner

  • "Caretaker & Owner very helpful."

The location is great, However the flat is in need of a major refurb plus the kitchen is in the entrance way very cramped & narrow and the shower plus toilet is in a 'cupboard' & the sink is in the end of the corridor!!! The sink in the 'bathroom' and the kitchen did not get hot water for ages - I never managed to get hot water in the bathroom sink in the whole week. They both, as they are, need a seperate under sink hot water supply. But really the dinning area should be made into a proper bathroom and possibly kitchen. I would suggest the cost for a week in November is 40% more tha it is worth. The property could be amazing if modified & refurbed to a good standard. I wouild not return in the current condition even though I loved the beach etc.....

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the location of the property. We are aware that the hot water flow to the sinks is slow and are looking into solutions for this. The shower room and loo and hand basin are in a dedicated room with windows, not a "cupboard"/ "corridor". There are of course other layouts to the property that could be achieved and everybody has their ideas! Windygates is an Edwardian house and we try and keep the layout and the feel in keeping with the many original features. It is advertised and priced as simple beach side accommodation. • "I've been looking forward to staying here for a long time and it didn't disappoint."

We booked for proximity to the beach and it was perfect for that. We were happy with the quirkiness of the property as it was expected after reading the listing and feedback. If I was to suggest a few small improvements then I'd suggest an electric blanket as the front bedroom is chilly (we prefer not to put the heating on, which we understand is a personal preference) so this would help, as would a larger sized duvet on the bed (there was a king sized duvet but it was in a double cover). Big changes I'd love a king sized bed as a double is a tight squeeze when your husband is 6'4"m ;-) Overall it's a lovely property in a stunning location and I wouldn't hesitate in returning. Really loved our stay and are very grateful that you share this property with others - we're coming back next year! PS. You need a new visitors book, it's full.

Many thanks for your feedback, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Re suggested improvements...the bed in the main bedroom is in fact a king size and there is an electric blanket, (the type that fits to the mattress). We will check with our cleaning team that it is in place, likewise about the duvet and duvet cover... everything we use for the main bedroom, (i.e. sheets, duvet and duvet covers) are king sized, but will double check. Thanks for the reminder about the visitors' book! We look forward to welcoming you back next year! Property Owner

As an older house it has the potential to be cold but the night storage heating worked well keeping us warm. Light the open fire on three nights but more for effect than warmth. Furnishings are in character with the property which makes Windygates the character property that it is. Yes it has its imperfections but that’s what we love.

  • "Location perfect."

We appreciate the antique furniture at Windygates but in truth the place needs a good clean. The knives, forks etc need replacing and pint glasses would be useful. The electric hob has seen better days. First holiday home we have ever stayed that didn’t have pillow protectors and a dubious under sheet on the double bed. If an on going improvement plan is in place it must have come to a standstill.

The kitchen really needs a makeover, earwiggy things on surface/in bread bin. Please Mr Windygates sort it out.

Many thanks for your feedback. We were glad to read that you enjoyed your stay at Windygates. Your feedback is important to us for ensuring guest comfort and satisfaction, therefore we were sorry to hear that you noticed some insects, we have asked our cleaners to be extra vigilant in this regard. Otherwise regarding the kitchen, the property is in a continual cycle of maintenance and upgrading and this includes the kitchen facilities. Great setting as you can walk straight on to the beach from the back garden - first time on Anglesey and would go again - went in November so could have done with more bed clothes for the double bed - fantastic views from living room and main bedroom and lots of space - loved the property but some things a bit basic such as wardrobe a bit musty and electric fire in living room needs attention

Thank you for your feedback we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We are so sorry about the bedding it should have been changed for your arrival. We have checked the fire and it is working fine. The wardrobe is very old (antique) but we are looking into this. Property Owner

Stunning views and access to the beach. We enjoyed our stay. Lovely and warm too! However property is in need of some investment. We are happy with basic but sadly wouldn’t return as things stand. Furniture, fittings and decor all tired and it must be so hard for cleaners to maintain.

The place is tired. Yet priced at the top end

Thanks for your feedback. We were very sorry to hear that you found the beds uncomfortable. The King Size bed in the double bedroom is only about 2 years old and the mattress even newer. The property is on a continuing cycle of maintenance and improvement. It is true to say that some of the furniture is old, (some are antiques), rather than tired, while some of the furniture is very new. We had a fantastic stay and the garden access to beach was perfect for the children. We have booked for next half term and would love to come in August 2024. A couple of things like a salad bowl would have been nice and perhaps some updated cutlery as some of the pieces were quite flimsy. But only tiny things. We loved our stay and enjoyed meeting the neighbours too.

  • "The hot water tap in the kitchen needs attention, as the flow of the water causes it splash everywhere."

The shower cubicle had mould around the bottom of the tiles. The bed dipped in the middle so much that I slept sideways and my husband slept in one of the other beds. We left a day sooner, as we were packing one of our dogs went under the bed, that was when we discovered that the centre support legs on the bed were not in the correct position. We did not use the wardrobes as they smelled like urine. We found someone else’s clothes in one of the drawers. We didn’t bother unpacking, just lived out of our suitcases. This was our 3rd stay and we were very disappointed as we do love location. Definitely not worth what we paid. Yes there have been improvements, they just don’t cancel out the smell of urine/drains within the property (as soon as we walked in it was noticeable). The bed setup was most definitely the worst as a bad nights sleep makes things worse.... Wether you publish this feedback is up to you. But sadly we were not satisfied customers this time.

We were very sorry to hear you were not satisfied during your recent stay. We encourage our guests to contact Menai Holidays as soon as possible if they encounter any problems, so that either a cleaner or handyman can visit to remedy the situation. Our cleaning team went to the property following your stay and did not detect any of the odours you mentioned. Property Owner
