  • "No complaints about the accommodation itself, which was clean, comfortable and well equipped."

However, the arrival instructions and arrangements were inadequate. There was no mention that number 8 was actually three properties that shared a common passageway and rear garden area. On going through the passageway, the rear garden turned out to be a building site, complete with scaffolding and ladders, as the roof was being replaced. There were bits of broken slate all over the grass. I could only see a keysafe at the door of the upper flat, but it had a ladder on its landing and looked as if it had not been occupied for months. The number given would not open the keysafe. I phoned the owner - no reply. I phoned Sykes and was transferred twice to different staff, the last of whom said she would phone me back but never did. It took an hour of speaking to locals and building workers on site before the upstairs neighbours arrived and advised me that the flat I was looking for was the ground floor one. I had rejected it because I could see no keysafe. The neighbours pointed out that there was indeed a keysafe, but it was two metres away from the door on a stone boundary wall surrounded by ivy. I was then able to get into the flat. I think the keysafe should be located right by the door as they normally are, or failing that, the instructions should indicate where it can be found. According to the neighbours,, people regularly have the same problem as I did. At the very least, the instructions should be made clearer. I would suggest: "Go through passageway marked number 8, On emerging, turn left to locate entrance to ground floor flat. Keysafe is located on the boundary wall on your right as you look at the flat door." It would also have been useful to know that building work would be going on during my stay. I appreciate you may not have been aware and no doubt the work had to be done, but it would have been useful to know about it in advance. In fairness, the owner did eventually phone me back and apologised for the disturbance and confusion. I have photos of the rear area and the keysafe location if required. So, all in all, happy with the accommodation provided but the entry instructions and arrangements could most certainly be improved.

  • "Pros: Very clean and well equipped."

Close to lovely beach. Secure garden. Cons: upstairs flat being renovated, so it's a building site in the back, bins full, rubble, scaffolding. The only window is in the bedroom which is on the street and 2' off the ground.. a window film would have allowed us to open the blind and let light in. Parking is hit and miss. Not suitable for less able folk as there is a long narrow passage and steps. The apartment is very small... my own fault for not checking the size which to be fair is advertised. Cumbrae is a lovely island but 3 days is enough for a visit. Fintry Bay cafe is well recommended

  • "Fantastic location, short walk to the beach, pubs, cafes etc."

The only downside for us was the size, very small living area which also incorporates the kitchen, apart from that we have NO complaints and there was a lovely hamper upon our arrival.
