Beautiful holiday cottage, everything you could need and very clean.

We particularly loved the artworks in the house and the decor, it felt so cosy and stylish. Great location for touring Scotland and don't miss a trip to the Taynuilt pier and bay, we went at the end of every day and it was charming. Also, if you like your wild gardens there's a hidden gem in the village where you can buy plants direct from the grower.

Absolutely perfect stay at Achanlochan Farm’s.

The property felt incredibly luxurious, was very cosy and comfortable, with spotless interiors and excellent facilities throughout. The views were beautiful and made the whole experience even more special. The owners were very helpful, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. We loved every minute of our stay and would return in a heartbeat!

Firstly I’d like to thank the owners for letting us use their cottage, we loved it.

Great location, it was wonderful to see the deer each evening come up to the cottage. The cottage itself was very well stocked, comfortable and felt really homely, so much we actually cooked and had dinner twice in the evening which is exceptional for us. The fire could be a little problematic to get going but this was the only negative. Overall I’d recommend this to anyone looking for the ideal location to explore the west coast of Scotland, everyone we meet was so friendly and really made us feel welcome.

We stayed at the cottage for a week, arriving late on Friday.

The accommodation was comfortable and in a pleasant location, though the access track is quite rough and may not suit low-clearance cars. There was no WiFi over the weekend, but this was resolved quickly on Monday after contacting the owner. Unfortunately, on the same day we lost running water entirely. I spoke with the owner and after several frustrating attempts during the day, the issue could not be resolved. We were left with heavily discoloured 'hill water' that could not be used for drinking. Earlier in the day we had been offered bottled water but declined, assuming the problem would be quickly resolved. I chased the owner the following morning, having received no further news. The subsequent conversation with the owner's husband was extremely disappointing. We had been very patient despite the issues but his tone felt dismissive and unhelpful. Bottled water was offered again (and accepted), but the response came across as defensive rather than supportive. We were told to take it up with Sykes if we were unhappy. For the remainder of the stay we relied on bottled water for drinking and continued showering in the discoloured hill water. This was inconvenient rather than disastrous, but what stood out most was the poor response from the owners and the lack of understanding or communication. We enjoy visiting Scotland and will certainly return, but we hope that the next place we stay has owners that are a little more responsive and understanding if issues arise.

We had the most wonderful time at Achanlochan Farm.

Every single detail has been thought of, from the decor to the kitchen utensils. The house is beautifully furnished making it feel like a real home away from home. The house was completely clean. There wasn't a single place you looked and thought hmm could do with a wipe, as you so often do when at a holiday home. The beds were glorious, with lovely linen and mattresses. We all slept like babies, even the 7 year old! The deer visiting each night was a highlight for us. We even had them on the drive one evening peeking in through the front room window. The front room is super cosy to recharge in with the fire lit after a busy day outdoors. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you so much for making our annual Scottish adventure even more perfect. We will certainly be back!

A lovely cosy stay.

Beautiful rural setting. Achanlochan cottage had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Cottage makes exploring Oban, Glencoe, Fort William and Loch Lomond possible with a car. Stunning views on the drive to each of the places mentioned. Yummy food at the Taynuilt Inn and Kilchrenan Inn, both needed a car to reach. Other nights we spent at the cottage and the kitchen was well equipped to cook up a storm. Thanks for a lovely stay. Great directions and information to provide an easy check in and check out.

We were two couples staying at the property and thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

The cottage is in a lovely quiet location and was particularly safe for our dogs. We were lucky enough to see deer in the surrounding fields twice whilst we were there. The kitchen was well equipped, the lounge was very cosy and we enjoyed the wood burner on a cooler evening. The bedrooms and bathrooms were well appointed and the beds comfortable. The cottage is perfectly located for exploring Oban and the surrounding areas. We would particularly recommend a day trip to Mull.

Wonderful property

First class accommodation.

Everything you could possibly need and more is supplied. Beautiful, high quality furnishings and everything is well-maintained and works. Great for a multi-generation family (like us) or a group of friends. We visited in August - the house was in an excellent location to get out and about to the many local attractions - but we all said we would happily spend a cosy week there in the middle of winter. It's just so peaceful. Highly recommended.

As a family of six adults, we enjoyed our stay at Achanlochan, however it’s not as near to the village as it states.

One and a half miles is nothing but please remember, this is a country one and a half miles along a single track road and then most of it, along the very busy A85 with no sidewalk or lighting for best part of it. I just wanted to clarify that because the spec’ is misleading. However, this is a beautiful farmhouse in a remote location. I loved it and would happily return but due to distance, some of my family would not. Next time, I’ll be more informed and would book again.

Generally a nice cottage in a good site with a few caveats.

The chimney appears to need a sweep because it draws very poorly. The en-suite bathroom has the tiniest sink I have seen and with no plug or overflow so that you cannot really wash in it. That means you use the shower and there is no extractor fan. Outside the midges were a problem only kept off by the heavy rain for most of our week. The kitchen was very well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the welcome pack was excellent.

We visit Scotland twice a year and have to say this is the best property we have ever stayed it was certainly a home from home everything for a great host, great rural location right through to the little touches added to make our Christmas break special - we would highly recommend and we personally will defiantly be back.

We had a wonderful week at Achanlochan Farm in July.

The personal touches from the hosts made us feel immediately welcomed and the house was immaculate. We really enjoyed sitting outside in the evenings watching the wildlife - deer, owl, barn swallows, woodpeckers. It's a lovely quiet spot at the end of the lane - perfect.

A real treat for wildlife lovers and a great base to explore an area rich in history, nature and stunning beauty. The property and hosts were extremely welcoming with some lovely little touches. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return. Thank you ☺️

Achanlochan Farm is one of the best places for a visit to the western coast of Scotland.

The farm house is very well equipped. The host has thought of every thing. It was great to watch deer in the field in front of the house. The welcome goodies were enjoyed by everyone. Would love to live there. Regards Jo Harper.

Achanlochan Farm is in a beautiful location.

We had a lovely holiday there. The house was very clean and has a well equipped kitchen. It even came with a lovely hamper and a Netflix account. It was so peaceful and surrounded by nature. We saw deer and heard cuckoo's. We were also sent a text message to let us know the aurora borealis was going to be visible. I would highly recommend it as a holiday let.

A very comfortable cottage with great facilities.

Very handy to visit Oban, the Isle of Mull, Loch Awe and Loch Lomond. Thank you for a lovely holiday - a great place to recover from a knee replacement!

The farm house is lovely, perfectly decorated and modern whilst remaining true to its farmhouse feel, the kitchen is well equipped and we had no problem cooking there.

The window seat in the kitchen became a place to have coffee in the morning. We had deer most mornings to watch too. The beds are comfortable, the bedrooms beautifully decorated with plenty of storage. My friend took the bedroom with the bathroom and I the king size room, so used the bathroom downstairs. There’s plenty of hot water. There’s a large amount of outdoor space that my dog loved, we were blessed with sunny, dry weather and sat out most afternoons after hikes. The only negative I had was the heating, this is really personal to me as I don’t cope well with even mild temps and get very very cold, the heating was set to 21°C, perfect for most people, I turned it up to 22°C but it never reached that temperature. But that’s personal and my friend who is ‘normal’ didn’t find the temp cold at all. We used the log burner once, but that wasn’t great either, even after an hour it wasn’t burning well and barely giving out any heat, I guessed after a winters use perhaps the flue just needed a sweep. Over all this house is wonderful. If you are thinking of booking you should.

Enjoyed our stay there.

The house was perfect and peaceful, absolutely no issues. The grocer shop in Taynuilt reminded us of ‘open all hours’ The owners left a welcome back of some essentials which was much appreciated. We had ordered a grocery delivery from tescos to arrive that night which set us up perfectly. Would definitely recommend if a peaceful relaxing break surrounded by stunning countryside is what you’re after.

Wonderful spot, very remote and quiet. Cottage is very well equipped and very cosy. Some wonderful touches from the owners that helped make our stay extra special so thank you.

Excellent cottage.

We really appreciated the beautiful decor and high quality home accessories. It is clear that great thought has been paid to making sure this is a home from home experience. We loved the setting with cows, a pheasant and deer for neighbours. Taynuilt is a lovely village which we visited every day for walks. Oban and surrounding areas are beautiful. Would highly recommend. One of our favourite holidays ever! in a stunning area.

Just returned from an absolutely brilliant week in Oban, the only downside was it rained nearly all week.

The house is in a lovely location, perfect for those who like seclusion but still only 20 minutes in to Oban centre. Facilities and decoration are first class there is really nothing not to like about Adanlochan farm.

After going over a little stone bridge and down a lovely drive way/lane we were greeted by a lovely white cottage.

When we entered we immediately felt at home. On the kitchen table was a small hamper with a bottle of prosecco (which went down well) with a hand written note wishing us a happy stay. The cottage has obviously been lovingly decorated. We were particularly taken with some of the original interior on show at the top of the stairs. The cottage was well stocked with every kitchen utensil, glass, and plates you could possibly need. There is also a well stocked utility room. The living room is very cosy and on a chilly evening we took advantage of the wood burner that made it even cosier. Bedrooms were just as comfortable. We managed to sit outside and eat on a couple of evenings surrounded by the mountains. We did lots of local walking but the most exciting part was seeing the resident barn owls flying around at dusk and several red deer appearing very near the fence in the adjoining field. Lots of photos were taken. My only disappointment is that we only stayed for a week and not two.

Would be good to mention the water situation in the listing and that you provide bottled water.

Maybe list all amenities I.e. Iron & ironing board etc. Maybe good to invest in coffee machine or larger cafetiere. Would be good to have a recycling bin also. The shower head in the downstairs bathroom could be heightened as we couldn't fit under it. Storage for washbag in upstairs bathroom. Apart from that your place is exquisite and we had such a fantastic time and furnishings are impeccable and stylish, we felt very comfortable.

We felt at home as soon as we arrived. We loved the spacious accommodation, beautiful setting and feeling tucked away even though we weren't too far from the places we wanted to visit. We'd happily stay again.

The cottage had everything you could need. Hugo and Jen were great hosts. There was a lovely welcome basket. The cottage was perfect for a quiet week and a great base for touring the area. We did get a glimpse of the owl and the deer. We would definitely stay again.

Achanlochan Farm is such a beautiful cottage that has been thoughtfully renovated and decorated to a high standard.

It is like home from home, but so much better especially with the wonderful views and the highland cows surrounding the cottage. It's a great base for enjoying the highlands and all that it has to offer. The host is wonderful too and very kind and helpful. Thank you and we hope to visit again soon.

We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage is absolutely stunning, beautifully decorated and very comfortable.

It is quite remote but suited us perfectly. The kitchen is very well equipped and had everything that we needed. Lovely surprise of a beautiful welcoming gift and card from hosts. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back again.

Very enjoyable stay.

The location wasn’t too remote although access road was a little difficult. Noise from nearby A82 and Railway was noticeable. The cottage was comfortable, adequately furnished and well equipped. There was a lack of walking opportunities from the cottage which was a little disappointing although there were some walks from Tynault, a short drive away. Overall good value for money.

We had an incredible stay in an outstanding property.

Everything was finished to a very high standard and we fully appreciated the personal touches, like the arrival gifts, beautiful art work, soaps and hand cream at all sinks and the helpful property information booklet. A wonderful setting with so much to offer in terms of days out and wildlife to watch from the bedroom windows.

The cottage has all the appearance of a peaceful beautiful remote location whilst being close to the main A85 road and Glasgow-Oban rail line.

The rough access track joins the former and crosses a narrow bridge over the latter. We were relieved to be in a vehicle with good ground clearance for that approach, though within the curtilage of the property the track surface is good. The property is a contemporary renovation of an old farmhouse, which has been solidly executed and has a welcoming feel, and very personalised with multiple watercolours by what appears to be the same artist. The lounge sofas are generous, with one facing the TV and fire, and the other tangential to the screen. The TV has locally-available terrestrial channels and a Netflix account, though the smart apps on it accept logins for a range of other streaming services. The broadband has a decent speed of around 16Mbps incoming, but typically is single figures outbound. This means that devices that sync online (with automated photo uploads for instance) can hog the connection temporarily, but otherwise streaming is just fine. We didn’t try video communication services like FaceTime or Zoom, but the upload speed would suggest that embracing the sense of remoteness would make more sense. There is plenty of wood available for the fire, though we were glad to have plenty of kindling and some of our own very dry kiln-dried wood to start the fire and keep it going, because the burner’s door latch was missing. This meant that smokiness in the room on lighting and creating a strong draw were problematic. The owners are committed to replacing the latch so this should not be an issue in future. For us, it was slightly more problematic because the central heating thermostat read 12C degrees when we arrived, and the air source heat pump system took well into the next day to reach warmth during March. The system once reset again to 12C whilst we were there, but we were able to readjust again easily. An earlier power cut had caused the initial failure. But our experience is (as with our own house) that most rural properties like this can have unexpected minor temporary blips, and the important factor is how easy it is to rectify and/ or how the owners/ caretaker responds. They responded speedily and thoughtfully - another example was that our tall dog had an insecurity with the polished stone floor tiling in the hallway and kitchen. Some floor runners were provided that enabled him to have enough confidence to see him through our visit. So all well with minimum fuss, and the multiple positives of the property far outweigh these minor niggles. One of the three bedrooms has a cut-away to form a compact en-suite, and the others have the use of a downstairs bathroom with shower and short bath tub (welcome after a long hike, but for a 6ft person, a choice is to be made between torso or body underwater). The showers are rain-style, which makes the most of gravity to enhance the moderate but adequate flow. The spacious and contemporary kitchen was well-equipped with modern appliances, and had enough crockery and utensils for the two of us. As all cupboards were full, our food was instead kept on the counter in the pantry/ heating/ laundry/ utility room or spacious fridge/ freezer. The table in the kitchen was comfortable for dining, and the local delicacies basket and bottle on our arrival provided a pleasant welcome. Outside, there are some old farm outbuildings and surrounding fence and gates. The main drive gate was solid and gave the sense of utter privacy, but another gate leading to the adjacent field nicked our dog as he squeezed through, as it had no way of securing it fully at the time of our visit. The unused outbuilding had an entrance barrier warning not to enter, but another open entrance caused some nervousness with the dog until he understood he was forbidden to explore inside. That aside, the outside space is otherwise secure, generous and nicely tended. Though our March weather meant we couldn’t sit amongst the daffodils, they were nevertheless lovely to see. The deer in the nearby woodland were clearly visible from the farmhouse grounds, as were the well-fenced cattle either side of the approach track. This is a great base for upper Argyll, lower Lochaber, the inner Hebrides - and farther afield. Oban is a short distance from Taynuilt and there are several trains per day from the village’s station. The rail line also intersects with the West Highland Way 45 minutes in the other direction at several places. This made it simple (subject to walking speed and the sparse train timetable) to catch the train from Taynuilt to Crianlarich and walk to Bridge of Orchy - some of the easiest 21.5km of the long-distance walking route yet well-worth doing. There’s a shorter option of 10km-ish to Tyndrum on the same rail line as Taynuilt. There is also a very quiet back-road (20km-ish) from Taynuilt to Oban which is on the National Cycling Network and was so quiet that walking it was possible. The location is also good for driving, with the Oban-Craignure, Lochaline and Tobermory-Kilchoan ferries providing plenty of options for visiting the Isle of Mull in a circular itinerary with the Ardnamurchan peninsula/ Moidart/ Glenfinnan, etc. Fort William provides the end/ start points of both the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way, and of course Ben Nevis and its skiing, mountain biking, and other activities. There is also a good driving loop via Glen Coe village, Rannoch Moor, Glen Orchy and Loch Awe through classic Scottish landscape. And nearer to the farmhouse is Taynuilt’s own proximity to the tranquility of Loch Etive and the bens and glens of its eastern shoreline. In summary, really good cottage in great location with plentiful facilities, attentive owners, and much to enjoy. Thank you.

The only negative comment would be the en suite is very small and could do with a shelf or hook on the door to hang your things. beds were really comfy and we did see your resident barn owl.

Really well equipped cottage, everything you needed in the kitchen. Beautiful views from every room and a great location! Bonus is seeing deer’s in the early morning and we also spotted a barn owl one evening.

This is a truly lovely cottage set in the most beautiful countryside.

The furnishings were marvellous and there was a supply of essentials such as laundry soaps, basic food stuffs and the like which are always welcome. I found Hugo and Jen to be very attentive in terms of responding to whatever queries we may have had during our stay, and it is obvious that they have put in a lot of love, hard work and effort into making their cottage as perfect a holiday destination as they could.

From the moment we arrived after a very long drive, we immediately felt at home. Everything was pristine and it’s clearly a well loved and cared for farmhouse in the most beautiful location. We will definitely be returning! Thank you!

The cottage was very warm and comfortable, and beautifully furnished to a very high standard throughout, with lots of personal touches, such as pretty blinds and cushions, and nice watercolours decorating the walls.

The kitchen and the bathrooms were attractive and stylish and the kitchen was well equipped. There was a generous welcome hamper, lots of bottled water, plenty of logs for the wood-burner and plenty of information about the area. There is lots to see and do in the area, and there are many stunning landscapes. Even though it rained for most of our stay (not unexpected in January!), we had a wonderful time.

A warm and welcoming home, well placed for exploring and yet lots of privacy.

We saw deer in the paddocks below the house, a resident barn owl and of course the local cattle who would greet us every day. The house had everything we could possibly need and our holiday ended far too soon!

Superbly appointed restored farmhouse in a lovely private setting.

Tastefully modernised with plenty of character and original features, especially original sash windows!! Both kitchen/diner and lounge were simultaneously cosy and spacious. Loved Taynuilt and Oban and trips to the Falls of Laura on a spring tide was a highlight. Don’t miss a visit to the Bonawe iron smelter and pier.

We had a very pleasant stay at this property which has been recently refurbished to a very high standard.

Despite the time of year, the weather was generally kind to us and we enjoyed outdoor activities such as climbing Ben Cruachan, cycling the back way to Oban, and walking around Kerrara Island (easily accessible from Oban). The welcome pack was the best ever! Highly recommended.

A delightful and well equipped property in an ideal location!

What a find!

This delightful farmhouse is set in its own well-kept grounds, surrounded by rolling countryside and is in an idyllic holiday spot but to call it a holiday cottage would be a massive understatement. It's beautifully and stylishly decorated, has a well equipped kitchen with induction hob, range-style cooker and everything you could want in the way of crockery and cutlery. The showers are great, the main bathroom is a nice size and the owners had thoughtfully provided luxury soaps from the Highland Soap Company and soft towels. All the bedrooms are of a good size and the beds are really comfy. The woodburner in the lounge made for some cosy evenings and there's even Netflix on a wide-screen TV! And the icing on the cake? A lovely welcome surprise with jam, honey, oat cakes and a bottle of Prosecco on arrival! We had a fantastic time and enjoyed our stay enormously. Can't wait to return!

This property was amazing.

Beautiful setting for wildlife spotting and exploring west coast and gorgeous rooms and decor. It was incredible well thought out. The arrival hamper and copious amounts of loo roll, soap, water etc was terrific. We loved every minute. It felt really special.
