  • "Absolutely stunning views to wake up to that view for a week was breathtaking."

The house it's self was very clean very tidy throughout. It had everything you wanted. The extras that were left for us tea bags, coffee, milk, some snacks and lovely flowers was all very welcome when we arrived. We loved that you had to get the ferry across to the house, it made our trip even more fun(there is a road round but it's quite a trip on small roads) . Definitely worth a read through the visitors guide, it was recommended to visit the Audgour inn which was lovely and Audgour ales was brilliant and spent most evenings there sat outside taking in the amazing view. They have pizza night on a Friday which was delicious. We had fresh bread delivered from Audgour ales on Sunday morning and it was warm sooo lovely. Our host was brilliant easy to get in touch with and helpful when our car had a flat battery nothing was to to much trouble. Thank you for an amazing week loved every minute.

All home comforts provided for making for a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Plus a few special touches which were nice. The garden is fully enclosed (and well kept) which was perfect for our little daschie! It is so peaceful and the view (when the weather good!) down the Loch is a daily tonic for the soul. Highly recommend Mary’s Cottage if you’re wanting a peaceful relaxing break.

Lovely local toiletries and soft fluffy towels. Kitchen had everything you'd need and the view would just blow me away every morning. A perfect base for our Scotland holiday. Only slight niggle was the firmness of the beds but thats just personal preference and didn't really effect our stay too much. By the end of the week we didn't want to leave!

  • "We had a great 2 week's holiday at Mary's cottage, a very well-equipped and comfortable place with an exceptional view!"

We spotted otters and seals right from our bedroom and living room windows and enjoyed many walks both in the highland mountains as on the coast of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Maps and walk suggestions were provided in the cottage. The evenings were spent either at the fire place in the cottage or enjoying a beer or Friday night pizza in the brewery just down the road. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone who enjoys quiet and beautiful countryside with lots of wildlife.

  • "Mary’s Cottage was perfect in absolutely every respect."

The location and view were exemplary. The cottage had everything you could wish for, plus lots of thoughtful extras. Only 2 minutes from the ferry, which was great, but quite expensive (£10 each trip), so we bought a book of tickets as we ventured out most days. (There is a book of tickets for seniors, but you have to apply for them over a week in advance, so we missed out on that.). The alternative route by road was very pretty, but also rather a long diversion. We were blessed with fine weather for the duration of our stay and managed to cover a wide range of visits. Would recommend Mary’s Cottage to everyone - an idyllic holiday, thank you so much.

The cottage is perfect and there are so many little home touches that make such a difference. The kitchen is so well equipped, the luxury bath bubbles, soaps and hand creams are lovely and the bed is so comfortable with the softest sheets. I’d also like to note that unlike most cottages you stay in, the loo roll was the same quality I’d buy at home which sounds silly, but really makes a difference when you’re staying for a week. The location is idyllic and we never got bored of waking up and looking out on the loch, in fact we made the most of the daylight and sat at the table until it was dark most days. We highly recommend going to visit the Argdour Ales Brewery (come out of the cottage and turn left, walking a little way up the road and it’s on your left) for a beer and ordering a pizza on Friday night - delicious. We learned all about ‘Mary’ of Marys Cottage from the locals too which was lovely. Caroline is so helpful (she messaged to say the ferry had stopped running due to the storm one day during our stay) and very kind leaving us some Scottish treats and a wee dram to enjoy. We really can’t wait to visit again as it really is the most beautiful, calm and peaceful place to visit - Thank you Caroline for a truly memorable stay.

This beautiful cottage is spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The location is idyllic and quiet but still has easy access to local facilities due to the nearby ferry which runs all day and the crossing only takes 3 minutes. You can also travel to locations without using the ferry via the roads on the left hand side of the loch if wished such as Glenfinnan and Mull (via the Lochaline ferry to Fishnish). To catch a ferry over the loch to get to the cottage makes it feel really isolated and almost no other people there, but 5 doors down is a friendly pub. The cottage is really well equipped, we spent a week there and cooked every night. Every possible utensil, loads of pans, great knives and the kettle and toaster are way above the usual basic brands. The open plan living room / kitchen has a really nice feel, great for board games, cooking and watching the birds all at the same time. The fire is really nice on a cold and windy day and easy to light. Beds are comfy and there is even a garden out back. Feels like a real home, rather than just a place to stay. I'd highly recommend for a peaceful getaway. Just remember to get lots of shopping in before you get the ferry over and then you don't have to go back.

Very peaceful. Could not fault the cottage The only drawback was cost of ferry each day. 8.20 per crossing. That is £114.80 extra for the week.Extortionate prices bearing in mind there is only one inn to eat at. The menu was limited and prices far too high for the food that was on the menu. £25 for steak and chips. I would expect to pay that for a la restaurant. Not enough choice. The alternative was to drive 30 miles along really narrow lanes which was quite scary. The locals drive way too fast exceeding the speed limits. Especially the trucks. The cost may put people off from booking at this lovely location.

  • "We have been to several Sykes Cottages; all have been very good."

This one really was superb. The welcome and reassurance of help if required was very warm and genuine. The information provided was generous. The neighbours were friendly and all facilities were as described. If you want night clubs you don’t go to Ardgour. It is peaceful and beautiful!

About the location

ARDGOUR

Fort William 12 miles.

The small village of Ardgour, with its shop and hotel, is the gateway to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, attracting walkers and climbers, eager to explore its variety of hills. Ardnamurchan Point Lighthouse marks the most westerly point on the Scottish mainland, and as well as being a working lighthouse also houses an exhibition with hands-on displays on lighthouse life. Fort William can be reached by crossing on the Corran ferry, which ploughs regularly across the narrows of Loch Linnhe, or by road. This is an area ideal for exploring unspoilt Scotland and seeing a variety of wildlife such as otters, seals and red deer in their natural habitat. The area has numerous villages with a good range of shops, restaurants and facilities for visitors, all set among magnificent scenery.
