Dunaivon Cottage

We had a wonderful stay here.

The house is well equipped, comfortable, and has everything you need. The beds are excellent, and while the shower room is a little on the small side, it is absolutely fine. The owners, who live next door, are very friendly and happy to offer helpful local recommendations. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed both the cottage and the surrounding area and would gladly return.

The photos and listing online don't really do this gem of a cottage the justice it deserves.

Beautiful setting, spotless accommodation, well equipped and comfortable. Perfect location to explore Loch Lomond and surrounding areas. Highly recommended, would definitely stay again.

We were greeted by Hillary just after arriving she was so lovely and explained everything and brought some homemade bread and cakes.

The accommodation is very well equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay, the beds and linen are first class so it was like a home from home. Location is ideal for exploring the local area, we even managed to drive through Glen Coe to Fort William then Fort Augustus and an anti clockwise circular tour all around Loch Ness. So even that is manageable but be warned it is a long day but doable with time to explore. With Loch Lomond virtually on the doorstep also close to Faslane Naval base you may even spot a Submarine. So all things considered it’s a lovely place to relax for a while in a very quiet location being on a no through road so no traffic. When you book, enjoy your stay.

This was our fifth visit to Dunaivon Cottage.

That probably speaks for itself. The cottage has a beautiful woodland garden belonging to the main house which the owners welcome us to use. The owners are very welcoming and we have received very helpful suggestions of places to visit. They help us to feel relaxed there. The cottage itself has everything you could need and is always clean & comfortable. Having the main living area upstairs is a definite bonus.The area has many beautiful walks and an excellent public transport service.

This is a lovely cottage, well equipped and very comfortable.

It is ideally located with a pub and cafe nearby, or a pleasant walk to Helensburgh for pubs, restaurants and shops. Alternatively a regular bus service operates 5 minutes from the cottage.

Great cottage.

Very quiet spot. Owners very welcoming. Have stayed there before. Always milk, bread homemade, butter, and eggs left for your arrival. We will definitely be returning.Nice for walking into Helensburgh. Ardacaple pub for good food. Just a short walk away. Thanks for a lovely stay. Colin.

Beautiful cottage in a great location with everything you’d need.

Very well presented. Easy access into Helensburgh and a couple of lovely pubs nearly. Only thing missing for me was mirrors and somewhere to sit outside would have been nice but we had a fabulous week here and would definitely recommend.

A very peaceful place providing good quality accommodation with a well-equipped kitchen.

The property is in a good location for walking to local amenities and an easy car commute to others. The owners provided thoughtful extras which were appreciated. There were a few issues relating to unfinished cleaning from previous occupants, for example, an unwashed cafetiere that had been left for some time. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the property to others.

It is a lovely cottage, in a wonderful condition.

It all felt new and fresh which made for a very comfortable stay. We came to visit relatives locally and we would certainly think about returning here as it was like a home from home, much nicer than a hotel.

Lovely comfortable cottage and lots of special little additions like coffee beans and cafetiere and on the doorstep for lovely walks.

Dunaivon Cottage was a lovely place to stay.

The cottage was clean and comfortable, everything had been well thought out to maximise the space. We loved the home made bread that was waiting for us, and the eggs, milk and butter. The showers were amazing, really powerful (almost painfully so!!) We only saw the hosts briefly and were left to our own devices. Our son lives in Helensburgh and this cottage is perfectly situated for a base when we visit. We will definitely be back!

The cottage is situated in beautiful, peaceful gardens in the lovely area of Rhu.

As soon as you walk through the front door of this cottage you know that you've made the right choice! Everywhere is immaculately clean and the lovely owners have provided everything you could possibly want for your stay. We found the furniture and beds to be very comfortable. The property is well laid out, clutter free and and very well maintained! You can tell the owners take pride in offering a pleasurable stay for their guests. The owners knew we were getting married in Helensburgh while we were there and welcomed us with a totally unexpected wonderful hamper of delightful Scottish gifts. A sign of just how thoughtful these owners are. We have already booked for next year and are eagerly looking forward to our next stay! Thank you to our lovely hosts Ken and Karen

A lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings but only a short walk to the water front.

Cottage was clean and everything you could need. The beds were comfortable, we slept downstairs but preferred the larger shower upstairs. We did use a pillow each to sit on sofa and chair just for extra comfort. A great base to tour the area.

This was our 3rd stay at this property.

Our hosts were lovely, very welcoming and we lucky enough to chat to them during the week. They had many suggestions regarding places to visit. The area is beautiful, the grounds and garden were also beautiful & peaceful. The cottage itself had everything we could wish for.

We enjoyed our stay at Dunaivon.

There are some nice walks directly from the cottage such as: to Rhu point (at low tide), the Highlander's Way over the top to Hill House, along the seafront to Helensburgh, and up to the reservoirs. Up the same road there is a public footpath, at the top of which turning left you reach another footpath to connect with the rest of Rhu higher up. The only issue we had (with the plug in the washbasin) was fixed the next day.

Beautiful well equipped, clean place.

Homely and set in a nice area with views of mature trees and the loch. The children loved the little woodland and had 2 treasure hunts there. Good communication with the owner.

Dont let the 'upside down' layout put you off, this is a lovely cottage in an ideal location for a visit to this part of the country.

The cottage was spotless clean upon arrival, and was well equipped and provisioned.

Owned by Hilary and Robert this property is beautiful, especially as it is an upside down house.

The house is very well finished and is so cosy, it is well heated and the amenities are excellent.The lounge is open plan with lovely double doors opening onto the trees and gives a feeling of being outside, we had them open all the week we were here.It is in a quiet area so very little noise.The owners live on site and are easy to have a chat with, they are there as help if needed. Finally , well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed

We had a perfect stay at the cottage.

Owner very helpful yet not intrusive at all. Would recommend!

The place is lovely, however we couldn’t stay as when we arrived I had a severe reaction to the paint (I’m asthmatic) the host had painted a few weeks before and the smell was still lingering badly.

I wanted to let others know just in case. I’m sure it will be fine after a month or two but if you suffer badly from strong smells, allergies, asthma etc…I do not recommend this property. It’s a health hazard. We booked a week and were so disappointed, it took we OVER a week to get a refund.

Gorgeous cottage!

Very well kept and clean! We traveled from Plymouth so the fresh home baked bread was a lovely sight to see and smell after such a long journey! Well stocked with everyday essentials such as jam,butter,milk ect. Hilary was a lovely host and informed us of some lovely places to visit and where to go to eat. Will definitely use again next time we visit Scotland!

It was a really lovely cottage and very convenient for us to visit so many local attractions.

The only small improvements we would make would be more comfortable chairs instead of benches at the dining table and more comfortable easy chairs in the sitting area. However the cottage was very tastefully decorated with lots of local information which we really appreciated. Another small point - the hot and cold taps in the kitchen have been plumbed in the wrong way round, which meant I was wasting water until I realised! We appreciated having a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. The bed was lovely and comfortable and everywhere was very clean.

WE FOUND THE LIVING ROOM CHAIRS UNCOMFORTABLE, COULD DO WITH UPDATING.

We stayed here with our two small children (3 and 5), the apartment was clean, comfortable, quiet and well looked after.

A fantastic spot with wonderful trees surrounding the property. Close to the harbour, shops, swimming pool and great walks. Very impressive property, very kind and helpful owners. We would highly recommend this property.

Ideally located lovely cottage, every amenity you could need.

The owners were away but their daughter was minding their house which is on the same site but not intrusive. She was very helpful with any issues we had. Nearby Helensburg has lots of facilities and places to eat and Loch Lomond and its attractions were only a short drive away. Would highly recommend and use it again if revisiting the area.

Friendly, accommodating owner who welcomed us with fresh bread, ice cream and eggs. Was also very helpful on day when we were supposed to leave when we had unexpected car drama.

Fantastic quiet location great base for walking

Both my husband & son very much enjoyed their extended stay based at Dunaivon Cottage so they could explore beautiful Scotland together.

The accommodation & owners were just fantastic & everything was to an exceptionally high standard - a dream find. Thank you & hope one day to return with my husband.

Do not vacate until 18/12 but my husband & son told me it is perfect in every way and that includes the property owners.

We loved this house so much, perfect location, clean and well equipped and in such a beautiful setting in the owners' grounds.

The owners are friendly an gave us excellent advice about how to turn around up the hill, which takes a bit of getting used to so the advice was much appreciated! Lovely touch of homemade bread to welcome us too. Would recommend 100% and have already re-booked!!

Marvellous location with beautiful views.

Clean and generally well supplied. We were 4 adults and the property is probably more suited to 2 adults + children. 2nd bedroom smaller with less hanging/drawer space. Bins in bedrooms/bathrooms would be helpful. Also would benefit from a mirror in each bedroom for dressing & hair styling.

Lovely peaceful relaxing holiday cottage.

Exceeded expectations, very clean with comfy beds and excellent water pressure in the showers. Useful welcome pack of basic essentials (including homemade bread, eggs, butter, milk and teabags). Would stay again. Helpful welcoming host - Thank-you Hilary.

We chose the perfect week to visit with the lovely Cherry Blossom filling the picture-window of the lounge, set off with the blousy red rhododendrons in the lovely wooded garden.

The cottage and facilities were exactly as advertised and extremely comfortable and homely

Wow what an amazing cottage, the location is beautiful, so many places near by to visit, the cottage is very well stocked with essentials that you wouldn't expect in other cottages, it was clean and welcoming, the beds are very comfy and I was so happy we booked here for my 1st time in Scotland, would highly recommend this cottage for anyone wanting to visit Scotland, Thank you Hilary
