The Snug

As a regular user of Sykes, this was the third property I’ve stayed in this year, I was dismayed when I pointed out to the owner that the shower head could do with a clean and descaling and was told in reply it was build up from the type of water there and that I was the first holiday maker to stay at the property as it was generally used by Contractors.

The shower cubicle and shower hose were covered in black mould and part of the ceiling paint above the shower is hanging off. The property was badly maintained, the metal entrance gate to the grounds could only be opened and closed with brute force, there were paint stains on the sofa, stains on the mattress protector and pillows and bedding. No pillow protectors, no teaspoons, no tea towels, no oven gloves, no cleaning products apart from one very used pan scourer. No wardrobe or hangers or anywhere to put clothes apart from bedside tables of which the drawers were none to clean and no vacuum to give anything a clean with. When the owner opened the freezer door to show me the fridge/freezer on my arrival he pointed out that as the top drawer was completely covered in ice and frozen shut I should use the bottom drawer as the freezer probably needed defrosting!! The owner begrudgingly offered to send a cleaner in the next day but I declined as I did not want to have to deal with anyone else and give up any more of my vacation. So I resorted to leaving all my belongings in my suitcase for the week, visiting the nearest supermarket to purchase antibacterial wipes, pan scourers etc and washing all the plates and cutlery myself. The owner also offered the use of the garden to me which I declined as there are three active beehives in it. I would recommend that if you’re visiting this area on holiday then do not stay here but if you are happy to slum it then you might it cope here.
