  • "This could be a 5 star premium property if more care is taken with the cleaning and supply of utensils etc ."

The property itself is beautiful with an outstanding location so peaceful with excellent views across the river which has a private floating pontoon to relax on . The facilities on enclosed balcony are excellent with chairs tables sun loungers gas bbq heaters and even a outdoor bath . The lodge itself is furnished yo a luxurious standard with reclining leather furniture a large television great bathroom with walk in shower and double wash basin with large lit up mirror. The kitchen is good size with large fridge dishwasher oven and we eventually found a freezer outside on balcony . When we arrived we only had one saucepan and one tiny frying pan which was rusty and only 1 normal mug this is no good for 4 adults .This was rectified the next day by the owner of the cleaning company , sorry I have forgot her name , who was cleaning the lodge next door she was very helpful supplying us with water bottles to drink and extra pans .We also contacted the owner who arranged for more water and mugs to be supplied and he was very apologetic. Also there where no coat hangers in the only wardrobe at the property which again was far too small for 4 adults and only 2 draws at bottom of wardrobe. Now for the cleanliness side which let this property down massively in our opinion . We were told that a normal cleaner had not prepared it before our visit but we think it had not been cleaned properly in quite a while our issues include the rusty pan I have already mentioned the kettle had to be cleaned out as it was caked with a white soft powdery substance ,glasses cutlery and plates had been put away dirty and some were rusty , the beautiful scenic windows had obviously not been cleaned inside or out for some time and the frames and wood floor was very dusty . Now for a serious cleanliness problem which we did not notice until we stripped the bed on leaving which were very large stains on mattress which had been covered by a fresh mattress protector which I can only hope was something accidently spilled on mattress but we have serious doubts about this and we would not have slept on it if we had noticed it earlier. To sum up Red House is a fantastic property for piece and quiet with a lovely location but only 20 mins walk yo the beautiful village of farndon but more attention needs to be taken to the cleanliness especially provide a new mattress and correct number of utensils hangers and wardrobe space to allow it to cater for 4 adults as advertised with these simple changes this would be an outstanding property and we would have reviewed it as best weve ever been too

  • "The Red house was lovely."

We stayed to celebrate my son’s 11th Birthday. The accommodation itself is fab but maybe just needs a little TLC. I can see the site is in the process of renovation/upgrading and it’s going to be amazing but still a little to do to get there. Having said that for the price this stay is fantastic and we really enjoyed it. I would recommend.

  • "We will definitely visit again!"

This is a wonderful house with a luxury feel, the little extras were really welcomed eg paddle boards, games, logs, dry bag. The only feedback would be some more pans and instructions on how to use blinds, overall an amazing stay and I can’t wait to visit again.

  • "Stop your search and book this lodge!"

Hands down the nicest cabin we've ever stayed in - exactly how it is pictured - even better actually as we didn't think the outside bath would be as big as it is! Superb, remote location with no one around, extremely peaceful and the inside is really cosy. All the furniture and features are really high quality and very clean. Pubs/shops/cute little cafes are just a 5 minute drive away - or a 10/15 minute walk - but we hardly left the lodge! There's no need! A river and mini lakes on your doorstep with paddleboards and kayaks free to use, and the world of nature around you, put your phones in the provided lock box and de-digi yourself! The host is a top man who did everything to ensure we had all we needed - and then left us to it! Perfect! We will be back again - if you'll have us!

Would absolutely recommend for anyone be it couples or a family who are wanting an escape to the countryside. Will definitely be returning in the future!!

FARNDON

Chester 10 miles; Llangollen 19 miles.

The village was an important place historically and has been a site of conflict and cultural exchange since the Angles settled in the area in the 8th century. The border moved numerous times during the following centuries, placing Farndon alternately in Wales and England. Today visitors will find splendid little shops, as well as welcoming pubs, ideal for relaxing in with friends and family. Why not visit the Roman city of Chester with its famous 'Rows', excellent shopping and celebrated zoo? For those who like walking and outdoor activities, Snowdonia National Park is only a couple of hours drive away and is ideal for days out.
