Alwyn Cottage

This was advertised as dog friendly accommodation.

It is dog tolerant not dog friendly. There is no outdoor space for dogs - on arrival there is a sign saying that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times - this was not made clear in the listing; The enclosed garden is locked as it is overgrown and inaccessible. The outside of the accommodation is unkempt and in need of attention. This property is not in keeping with the area as the driveways and outdoors of the neighbouring properties are tidy, clean, accessible, and well maintained. Disappointed as the dogs had no garden area/off lead time. .

We were lucky enough to have a second stay in Alwyn Cottage, this time during a summer heatwave.

Where the cottage had been warm and cosy for our winter stay, in summer it remains pleasantly cool and becomes a welcome refuge when it's 30C outside! Returning felt a little like coming home. Everything was very familiar and comfortable and we immensely enjoyed our stay; the cottage was as well-appointed as ever with everything "just working" exactly as it should. Must admit, we didn't test the log burner this time though ... and the telly didn't get switched on because the views from the windows are spectacular. In a very beautiful setting, Alwyn Cott remains one of the most special places I've ever stayed and remains firmly among my few favourites. I hope we're lucky enough to enjoy the cottage again for a future visit.

Lovely cottage with fantastic views.

Beautifully decorated and very well equipped - an overused expression, perhaps but truly a home from home. We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage is quiet, cosy, well laid out and brilliant for several people to sit together and eat in the kitchen or relax by the log burner. The cottage is incredibly quiet and at night, the skies are wonderfully dark. Worth noting the drive is steep as mentioned in the listing but we were able to get several cars safely parked without any problems. We'd love to stay again!

Perfection

My family and I very much enjoyed our stay at Alwyn Cottage, we had everything we needed and felt we were adequately warned about the steepness of the drive (we like a challenge!

) so were surprised by the negative comments re this in the visitors book. We all loved the beds (very comfortable) and the selection of crockery, although it took us 2 days to find the cutlery rack in the dishwasher! We stayed in every night playing boardgames from the excellent selection although we did sign into everything the TV offered just in case. My only negatives are that the fridge/freezer is too small for 5 people (we didn't want to be shopping everyday) and the upstairs loo sometimes set off a vibration that seemed to run through the house. I emailed the owner and left my phone number but had no reply. Also, the floorboards in the bedrooms are lovely but there is nothing to stop every sound from travelling to the room below (luckily I was upstairs, so not below my young grandsons!). Not quite 5 stars but very nearly and huge thanks to the owners for the warm welcome.

An absolutely beautiful cottage in a stunning location.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable and had everything you could possibly need with a really homely feel. The welcome gift of milk and Welsh cakes was a lovely touch and very much appreciated.

Great cottage better equipped kitchen that I have at home. Driveway not for nervous drivers.

Well what a relaxing week we had, booked for a week and had family staying for the weekend then just my partner and me, roads and drive a little tricky on finding the place but fine once we knew our way around.

The cottage is beautiful , well equipped kitchen (although we did not cook all week) the views and sunsets are simply outstanding and so relaxing it was exactly what we needed from our hectic work lives, you have neighbours but not overlooked at all. Have booked many nice cottages on Sykes and have had lovely breaks, but will 100% be booking this again. ONE negative NO netflix or live tv you have to sign into you own account, which is not always possible to do if some of your family are not with you and still at home using the account, for the cost of Netflix !!!!

We had an amazing time at alwyn cottage, being able see a stunning view of Dee Valley just from the front porch and having beautiful local areas to explore really brought some loving memories.

The cottage was highly equipped with appliances, games, and everyday items to enjoy your stay, the drive takes some getting use too but once done a few times it's not so bad, recommend reversing up Overall one of the best experiences I've had in Wales and would highly recommend to anyone

Beautiful cottage myself and my family came here for the Christmas week, couldn't of wished for anything more perfect was absolutely lovely, everything you need inside the cottage beautiful views and stunning fire.

Owners are lovely kept hold of lost property for us until we could collect it again so nice of them. Would love to return thank you for making 2024 a perfect Christmas.

We loved our stay at Alwyn cottage.

It had really good facilities and the views are outstanding, we even managed to negotiate the narrow roads without any damage. The walks from the cottage were throughly enjoyed by the dogs as was the log burner. Would definitely recommend.

The property itself was excellent with fantastic views across the Dee valley towards Llangollen and beyond.

The only drawback was the access to the property which is difficult being very steep with sharp bends.

The views are stunning and location was perfect for us as visiting friends and go were very close by.

Lovely cottage set in the beautiful Dee Valley - the views from all windows and the patio were truly breathtaking.

The weather was very kind to us every day and so we were able to enjoy all the area had to offer. We also enjoyed the patio every evening - listening to the birds, taking in the view, and even got to watch a hot air balloon glide over the valley. You can just about see the aqueduct from the property and enjoyed using the binoculars provided to look at the canal boats crossing. A great base for exploring in and around Llangollen - great walks, lovely towns, and a good touring base as close to the main A5. The drive way looked like it may have been a problem for many previous people, and we had a couple of stressful days whilst we worked out the best way in and out - in the end we forward parked in the driveway and then reversed out, getting a dab hand at the manoeuvre by the end of our stay! We would definitely recommend, and wouldn’t think twice about staying again!

Had a week in Alwyn cottage & thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What a great location with some breathtaking views. The cottage itself was comfortable & cosy with the log burner which was needed with the cold weather we had given us for the week. Spacious & well equipped with nice powerful showers. What a beautiful part of Wales the cottage is set in. Fantastic views from the terrace & having a week in the summer would be fantastic for the beautiful sun sets. The only down side is a week isn’t long enough. We will no doubt be returning & Would highly recommend Alwyn cottage. Gav & Mel.

The property was in lovely location.

However the drive is dangerous and difficult to negotiate. Also the heating was unreliable. The owners did come out to look at radiators but they all came on at different times and the top bedroom radiator never worked. Too many items in kitchen cupboards.

Great location and cottage, the only slight issue was it was a bit cold as the lag fire would not hold.

We spoke with the owners who came round quickly and turned up the electric heating. After a couple of days we did manage to get the fire going but it took a lot of effort. The access is a bit awkward as mentioned by the owner but reversed as suggested and managed ok. Had a great week. Thanks

Beautiful cottage with amazing views, it’s on a steep hill and was impossible to park our T5 Van, so parked on Alma road but not a nice walk up everyday after days out.

But still had a lovely week. Lots to do in the area and Llangollen centre was lovely, 40 minute drive to lake Bala for some kayaking and paddle boarding. Would stay again while we renovate our own cottage close by.

Lovely house which was comfortable, warm and well stocked with all we might need.

Fabulous views and close to amenities. We had great days to Llangollen, Chirk castle and the aqueduct (even though it was closed to crossings!). Only issue was parking at the bottom of the drive which was stressful due to the poor traction on the gravel.

Superb well fitted cottage.

Comfortable beds, very clean surroundings. Great location. Good showers .One cubicle needs a little re-sealing but otherwise no problems. Plenty to do ie walking, games, good eatery around area. Scenery was ever changing but great to watch. Nicely decorated for Christmas.

Absolutely amazing stay, really lovely holiday spot!

Our only fault was the very steep driveway, we were warned but the hill was so uneven we actually pulled the bumper off our car on the first attempt at the drive unfortunately so I think that should be described more obviously in the listing, Didn’t let it ruin the holiday though as it really is a wonderful property! Had soo many home comforts, especially loved all the crockery in the kitchen ! Would stay again but maybe hire a raised vehicle to make the drive easier haha! Thanks for a great stay!

Great property- gorgeous views and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for some time away.

We had a fantastic week at Alwyn cottage.

The property has been beautifully renovated and is extremely well equipped. The kitchen has a dishwasher, a brilliant oven, toaster, plenty of pots and pans and even baking equipment, which our children loved using. The beds and sofas are comfortable and there is a great selection of games, a smart TV and lots of leaflets full of information about the local area. The views are amazing; you can see for miles across the Dee Valley, and we felt very fortunate to be able to barbecue and to eat on the patio most evenings. Despite the surroundings being so peaceful, there is so much to do in the local area and the cottage was lovely to return to every day. We wouldn't hestitate to recommend Alwyn Cottage.

The cottage was very comfortable and very well equipped.

Stunning views and close to attractions. Unfortunately our stay was marred by the driveway. It was extremely steep and very uneven. The driveway was a mix of paving, small amount of tarmac and loose gravel. There was very little traction when driving on there. Walking up or down on the driveway was also difficult due to the unevenness.

Beautiful property in a wonderful location.

It's elevated position gives views across the Dee Valley. Sitting on the patio watching the sunset was just magical. The cottage is very well appointed with everything you need. The access to the cottage is very steep so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues but the listing does make this very clear. Our week at Alwyn Cottage was enjoyed by all and I would certainly love a return visit.

A characterful cottage with fantastic views. Very well equipped and beautifully done. Lots of great places to visit closeby, including Erddig, Chirk Castle, Ty Mawr. We also enjoyed some beautiful walks along the river and canal. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We loved staying in Alwyn Cottage the views from the terrace are wonderful.

The cottage has everything that you need , it has been updated without being spoilt and is close to lovely walks , a pub and Llangollen. Hope to return later in the year. Follow the owners directions to the cottage rather than the sat nav
