The hot tub was a great hit with the grown ups. We loved the huge dining table indoors and patio table outdoors where we were able to eat together. Cooking facilities were great. Hot showers, hot hot tub and a warm house all you need. It got a spacious lawn and a garden with furniture to sit outside. Everything was clean and tidy, cosy beds and fresh linen. • "We have just got back from spending the bank holiday weekend at Cwmalis Hall."

Which was built in the 1700’s and is a listed building, situated in the country side. There were sixteen of us altogether and the first time that this side of the family had been away together since they were kids. Before arriving at the hall Emma sent us a very detailed welcome pack, including everything you need to know about the hall, how to get there, how things work, to walking maps of surrounding area, and places to visit and places to eat. I found this very helpful, and made things so much easier when everyone arrived at the hall. I wish every property owner did the same? On arriving at the Cwmalis Hall we were greeted will a lovely welcome pack, and flowers in vases around the kitchen which was a lovely touch. The hall turned out to be above and beyond all our expectations and accommodated all our groups requirements and more. Emma has done an amazing job of refurbishing the property, whilst retaining a lot of the halls old features. We have never stayed in a property with so many kitchen utensils, books and games. The pool table and bar football game was a lovely surprise and everyone enjoyed playing them. Also the outside area was great with enough space for everyone around the outside table, but still giving privacy to those who wanted to relax in the hot tub. Emma has also provided lots of outdoor games that you can play, including a life size chest board on the lawn, which kept us entertained. Inside the hall it was large enough to accommodate everyone in our party, with a large living room at the front, and a dinning area with a smaller cosy living room off it, which was ideal for us all to join in together, not once did any of us feel cramped at Cwmalis Hall. The hall has great sized bedrooms and enough bathrooms for everyone. I cannot recommend Cwmalis Hall enough for anyone wanting somewhere to stay with a large party that ticks all the boxes. We had an amazing time and will definitely be rebooking.

Hated the pool table and football table additions Uncomfortable metal chairs in the dining room instead of the wooden one in the pictures Pictures depict a very bright house, clearly professional lighting was used as this house is very dark inside. We had lights on all day. I chose this house for a family weekend away and I was apologising before anyone stepped over the threshold. We needed to stay outside with the dogs and children as there is no gate on the garden to the main

Emma was quick to respond to any questions prior to our stay and the directions were spot on , she helped massively with our Saturday meal by making suggestions for caters etc and was on hand with any queries during our stay. Cwmalis is warm cosy but with loads of little places to sit and chill read a book etc . Bedrooms beautifully presented and comfortable. The kitchen although smallish was well stocked with all the utilities needed to cater for a big party, we spend lots of time here chatting etc .The dining room comfortably seated us all. Plenty of books and games and the hot tub was a welcome addition ofter long walks. Cwmalis is a perfect spot to relax unwind and chill whilst celebrating with family and or friends. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here .

  • "A comfortable property with a good hot tub which was enjoyed by everybody who used it."

It was unfortunate that the Rayburn was not working, but Emma gave us access to the neighbouring property to use the oven there (the single working oven in the property was not adequate for our large group). We were disappointed to find that the dining chairs were metal (rather than shown in the pictures) which members of our party found cold and hard. We would suggest that fitting a door bell to the conservatory entrance would be useful as otherwise it can be difficult to attract attention when the door is shut.

  • "We stayed at the Cwmalis Hall for three night and had a lovely stay despite the rainy weather."

Our previously booked holiday cottage was cancelled last minute and we had family coming over from the Netherlands and Ireland. So I booked this property last minute on the day of arrival ( thanks to Sarah from Sykes Cottages who stayed ). The host Emma was very helpful the prepare the property for us last minute, she is very friendly and helpful with a quick response. The property was specious with lots of bedrooms just perfect for everyone. It's well equipped, nice garden with an amazing, large, private hot tub. Although the property needs some reparation and renovation as it's on the old side, with some cracks in the walls and moulds. When we arrived after couple of hours we had no warm water and the heatings kept going off at night which made the bedrooms cold, this was unpleasant as we had small kids with us. I would recommend staying at this property.

I’m pleased to hear you’d recommend staying. It was an absolute mission to get you in so last minute during the school holidays, but I’m happy I could help your family get together :-) The hall was build in 1770 so the plaster, most of which is original, was installed long before central heating, so cracks do appear. The joys of listed buildings. We did a complete refurbishment a few years ago including the heating/hot water system. I replied to your query about this within 5 minutes of you sending a message, as you must have missed the instructions in both the welcome pack I emailed to to you and framed on the wall in the entrance hall. As you discovered when I replied the ‘nest’ thermostat overrides the heating schedule I have set so you can set the temperature to your own comfort. As I also mentioned on my message, on your arrival the water tank hadn't completely re-heated after re-filling the hot tub later in the day than usual (we put fresh hot water in for every group so it’s super clean and ready for immediate use, but this is normally done in the morning. I couldn’t start the change-over until 2pm when I could travel to the hall myself). It's a big tank, but it heats really quickly when boosted from the ‘nest’ the instructions for which were also in the information sent over/on the wall. I’m pleased you had such a lovely stay though - Emma Property Owner

The kitchen facilities were all we needed & more. The house layout allows for 'all-together' time as well as opportunities to escape for a bit of quiet time. The garden is lovely & we loved watching the grey wagtails skimming the lawn for food to take back to the nest regularly. The hot tub was a welcome treat after a day of exploring. There is a large selection of board games & books, to suit all ages. Cwmalis Hall is near enough to Llangollen to nip out (in the car) to collect forgotten items for dinner - thank you Aldi! We stayed for a week & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The location is great for getting out & about & exploring some beautiful parts of North Wales. We met Emma & were very grateful for her quick response to a plumbing issue (it's a beautiful old house, these things happen). Warm, very well set out, nice feeling and obviously fairly recently refurbished. Could do with a dust pan and brush and some moaning about uncomfortable bed second from the drive end . Could do with a handle on wall by big hipbath ( its actually quite hard to get out! )The piano is not really up to scratch with 3 pianists on board but apart from that we all really enjoyed our stay.

Thanks Hugh. So pleased to hear you loved your stay. And thanks for the feedback. I recently replaced all but two of the mattresses so I'll investigate. The house was perfect for our university reunion weekend, the log burner made for warm and cosy friday evening of games in the living room. Some of the group enjoyed a game of croquet on the lawn, and the sheep that wandered down off the fell enjoyed the grass too! Location was really good and allowed us to easily drive to visit the famous aquaduct and also go on a lovely 5 mile walk from there to the castle dinas along the panorama road - would reccommend. Enough space for everyone inside and outside without feeling on top of one another. The hot tub is a particular highlight and was well used by our group. The house is very comfortable and well equipped, though one bath/shower was out of action during our stay (which Emma had told us about) hence the slightly lower rating for facilities. Emma was a fab host and was on hand if we needed her but left us to enjoy our holiday. The house and gardens are so beautiful and we enjoyed the setting of the Dee valley. Emma also left us a very generous welcome pack- the ginger and chocolate biscuits were a particular hit! We walked to Llangollen twice - the more adventurous route is a beautiful hike over the surrounding hills (highly recommended) with a pub stop overlooking the river at the end. We also ate at the Three Eagles in Llangollen during our stay and can recommend. There is plenty to do in the area (mostly a car ride away) and Llangollen is a good base from which to explore. Note- if you have a dog be prepared for them to be on a lead outside as the garden isn’t enclosed and the house is on a very busy main road. The road also needs to be navigated to get to any dog walking areas (or a short car ride). The wooded area at the front of the house is very special- we didn’t have any small children in our group but i suspect kids would love this addition. We would definitely rebook Cwmalis Hall and have already recommended it to others. We hope to return!

The location is great, kitchen well-equipped and more than enough space to chill out, dine and explore outside for our large party of 6 family groups. The self-contained lounge with a wall-mounted TV was ideal for entertaining the smaller children and the snug/dining/kitchen area worked well for spending time together as a full group without being in each other's pockets. There were more than enough mugs, glasses, plates etc to meet the capacity of the house, and the quality of appliances and kitchen equipment was much better than the average holiday let. The hot tub was straightforward to use and I can imagine the terrace area being very well-used in warmer months. The owner was very accommodating and helpful, with quick responses to email contact. There were sensible accommodations to ensure the property could remain Covid-safe should legislation or guidelines change. We did not need to use these at the time of our trip, but at the time of booking it was very reassuring that this had been thought through and that our holiday would go ahead in most cases, short of full lockdown and travel restrictions. All in all one of our best finds in almost 20 years of self-catering stays as a group.
