Beautiful house and so well supplied. Wished we would have stayed for longer.

Another lovely week at Mickle Trafford Manor with all the family John and Sam have thought of everything needed to make your stay as relaxing as possible The games room and garden seating were well used on an evening The cinema room has a huge selection of dvds We will be booking again for next year as everyone agrees that there is lots to do at the Manor and it’s a good base to get to Chester, Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks and lots of other places

Three generations of our family spent an incredible week here, and from the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home.

The owner gave us the warmest of welcomes and was always available if we needed anything, striking the perfect balance between being attentive and respecting our privacy. The house exceeded every expectation. It is exceptionally spacious, beautifully presented, and immaculately clean, with every room maintained to the highest standard. It’s clear that every detail has been carefully thought through to ensure guests have the most comfortable and relaxing stay possible. What truly sets this property apart are the outstanding facilities. Whether it was the children laughing in the enormous garden, family competitions in the games room, relaxing together in the hot tub and sauna, enjoying summer evenings around the BBQ, or ending each day with a movie in the incredible private cinema, there was never a dull moment. Every generation found something they loved, making it the perfect place to reconnect and simply enjoy being together. In fact, we hardly left the property all week because there was simply no reason to. Everything we needed was right there. The house has such a warm, welcoming atmosphere that it never felt like a holiday rental; it felt like a home where unforgettable family moments were made. It’s incredibly rare to find somewhere that genuinely has it all, but this place does. We honestly couldn’t find a single fault. If you’re looking for somewhere luxurious yet homely, peaceful yet packed with entertainment, this is it. Without hesitation, we would give this property 10 out of 10 and recommend it to anyone. If spending quality time with the people you love is what matters most, you simply won’t find a better place. We arrived as excited guests and left with wonderful memories that our whole family will cherish for years to come. Thank you for an unforgettable stay and we’re already talking about when we can come back.

I thought it might be appropriate that a Review of a Tudor House should be in the style of a Tudor Ballad - here it is When summer's heat upon the meadows lay, We sought an ancient house of timbered grace, Where Time had worn the stones, yet could not sway The kindly welcome written on its face.

The oaken beams looked down on cheerful cheer, As though they blessed each kindly word we spoke; They long had watched the passing of the years, And kept the memory of their Tudor folk. Each winding stair, each hidden nook revealed Some quiet charm no newer house could claim; With carved old chests and portraits half concealed, Each room seemed softly whispering a name. Beyond the doors the pleasant garden spread, Where flowers basked beneath the cloudless blue; A giant Redwood raised its stately head, As though since England's youth its branches grew. Beneath its shade we shared both wine and jest, And found in simple things our richest store; Close at hand some steaming waters pressed, But the summer's heat meant we didn’t explore. Yet all within was furnished for delight: Each chamber joined old beauty with new ease; The ample board drew all to feast each night, Whilst laughter wandered where it would and pleased. Across the lawn another haven stood, Where merry games and music banished care; Laughter rang out as best we could, And friendly voices mingled everywhere.

what a place, a beautiful house which oozes character.

Lots of rooms ,so could easily have alone time, great for playing hide and seek (love the wallpaper in the downstairs loo). fabulous big comfy beds So much time was spent in the games room and hot tub, there was a fault with the hot tub which was sorted as soon as. The cinema, fabulous. Great outdoor space.Having a washing machine is great, but perhaps something outside to hang,maybe a retractable washing line perhaps. Overall a wonderful stay was had by us all, young and old, and were so lucky with the weather too. Sam and John were great, very welcoming on our arrival, and just a call away if needed. A very impressive house : historic and rambling with superb 21st Century equipment.

Lovely kitchen, several sitting rooms , a brilliant cinema plus sauna and hot tub. Games room for our teenagers. Samantha the owner put fresh flowers in almost every room : matching colours in rooms with comfy country house furniture and table lamps everywhere. Great heating. This was our second stay for a family reunion. The family all chose to enjoy the house rather than explore Chester etc. All in all good value for our well travelled children, grandchildren and Labrador! Peter and Pat

Each room in the property has been carefully and tastefully dressed, demonstrating the skill and attention to detail of the owner, Sam.

She carries this approach through into everything she does, so that guests are able to enjoy fully their time at the Manor. In that, she is more than ably assisted by her father, John. They are both dedicated to ensuring that your stay will be all that you expect - and more.

Stayed here for a family reunion over the New Year.

Our hosts Sam and her Father were very friendly and accommodating. The Manor although large has a warm and homely feel. The Cinema Room was a real hit with the Grandchildren and a great space for New Year celebrations. The Games Room and the Hot Tub in the garden kept us amused for hours. Adults and children competing to be the best at darts, snooker, air hockey and table football. Retro furniture a big hit especially the bespoke Scooter Bar. Thanks for a great stay.

Our stay at Mickle Trafford Manor couldn't have been better.

We went with our family of eight which included ourselves and our two sons and their families. Sam and John were most welcoming and helpful, the accommodation and facilities were first rate and we had a wonderful time.

Beautiful house!

We loved the games room, huge hot tub and all the extras.. coffee beans, sweeties, biscuits, etc.. Would recommend and stay again.

An incredible place!

We used it as a place for eight cousins to meet up for a long weekend. Bedrooms and bathrooms are excellent. On top of that it has a cinema room, games room, garden, hot tub, sauna and great location. Ever wanted to stay in a manor house? Do it now. We've tried a few different places for our cousin reunions, but we wont be looking anywhere else now. Oh and the owner is dead friendly.

Excellent accommodation for 5 couples in en-suite bedrooms in a house full of character with some delightful quirky additions.

Sam was a great host, always available to provide help and suggestions based on local knowledge.

What a fabulous place to stay!

The host had thought of everything. There was so much to entertain ourselves with that we didn’t bother going out, apart from a walk to the park on Sunday morning for the children. There was a real country house feel to the place and we just felt that we were totally spoiling ourselves as we soaked in the hot tub, languished in the sauna, played the piano and guitars and had a great film night in the cinema - complete with popcorn. Cannot recommend Mickle Traffird Manor highly enough. Sam, the host, is brilliantly responsive and her warm, personal greeting to introduce us to the house was a lovely touch. It’s a great venue for mixed age group families (we were 67 to 20 months) and we thoroughly enjoyed our much needed, chilled family break.

Mickel Trafford Manor is an exceptional property, located well to explore Cheshire and of considerable thought for decor and luxurious furnishing that is inkeeping with the character of the property.

The facilities are brilliant from the well looked after gardens, the games room, sauna, hot tub and newly added cinema room with real cinema seats and popcorn machine! The host was excellent and clearly shows love for the property preserving its history whilst adding nice modern touches. The place is always warm. All bedrooms are en suite and beds super comfortable. We absolutely loved it. Thank you!

Incredible” is the best word to describe this home from home.

Sam and her family are extremely welcoming and friendly. The house is amazing with beautiful decor throughout. The five spacious bedrooms all with on suites have individual character. The huge kitchen-dining area is kitted out with everything (and more) that you could possibly need. We loved spending family time in the garden and despite it being October, enjoyed using the gas BBQ and seating outside; relaxing in the sauna; soaking in the hot tub with warm outside shower; playing table football, pool, darts and air hockey in the games room which is separate to the main house and great fun. The new cinema room is the cherry on the cake. Walking through a “Narnia-like” secret door I thought our children were going to explode with excitement. The popcorn machine, real theatre seats and 85inch screen made this room feel like we were at the movies. The bus stop 100m down the road made it easy to hop into Chester town centre. The Manor’s location is close to drive to Chester Zoo and we drove to Carden Park to do the high wire assault course with zip wire. The Manor is a perfect house with everything you could possibly need for a lovely family get away and we would definitely book again.

Fantastic property with lots of interesting features, comfortable rooms and an amazing garden.

The extra touches like the fresh flowers and chocolates were really appreciated. The grounds are beautiful and the hot tub, sauna and games room made this property even more special. Sam the owner was really helpful and gave us lots of ideas for places to go. Recommended!

A family reunion, 7 adults, 3 kids and The Manor accommodated us very well with a couple of the rooms being configured to twins.

The property is very spacious with lots of room for everyone and fully kitted out. We didn't meet Sam but exchanged texts when necessary and her dad John met us in on our arrival to show us around. The garden is lovely and a great space to be out in complete with covered seating, hot tub and adjacent shower, an almost hidden summer house, a giant barbeque and a splendid games room with pool, table football, air hockey, sauna shower room plus what we called the music room. Around the front is parking for many cars. The situation is great just 10 minutes from Chester also well away from the city. We didn't really want to leave.

Had a wonderful family time celebrating daughter’s 21st birthday.

The cottage was beautiful and large enough that everyone had their own space, the games room was a massive hit. The hot tub was lovely to have a relax at the end of the day. Kitchen had everything you needed Lovely property would go back again Sam the owner is so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for a wonderful stay it made our celebration so special.

Another wonderful week at Mickle Trafford with all the family, 6 adults and 3 children.

A lovely garden for relaxing and the separate games room kept us all occupied in the evenings. A kitchen well equipped with everything you need including 2 fridge freezers. Comfortable bedrooms all with en suites. The owners Sam and her father John go out of their way to make sure guests enjoy their stay. We will return.

A fantastic property which is well presented.

It was everything we had hoped for and more for a family celebration. Sam, the owner, was so kind and welcoming throughout and easily contactable. She also offered lots of recommendations of where to visit. Small touches such as fresh cut flowers made it all feel homely. The games room was enjoyed by three generations and it was so lovely to have a large garden to relax and play garden games in. The house had ample space to socialise and the bedrooms were comfortable and all of a good size. Thanks Sam for a memorable getaway.

We recently stayed at this wonderful house in Chester for a family holiday, and it was absolutely perfect for our needs.

The property had so much space and character — it felt welcoming and homely from the moment we arrived. One of the real highlights was the separate games room, which kept both the kids and adults entertained for hours. The hot tub was another fantastic feature — perfect for relaxing in the evenings after a day exploring the area. Everything was clean, well-equipped, and clearly well cared for. The location was also ideal — peaceful, yet just a short distance from Chester’s main attractions. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a spacious, character-filled home for a family getaway. We’re already talking about booking again next year!

Beautiful quirky old manor, sympathetically restored.

Plenty of activities in games room set in lovely garden and the owner could not have been more helpful. She’s great! House has all the facilities you need. Hoping for a return visit next year!

Mickle Trafford Manor is a charming property full of the character you would expect from a 500 year old house.

At the same time it has all the modern facilities you want for a comfortable stay. We found that Each bedroom was beautifully appointed with en-suite facilities to a very good standard. There are so many rooms and nooks and crannies with comfortable seating enough for a everyone to enjoy and relax during our stay. We loved the hot tub and games room and the garden is really lovely. Sam was really help and very flexible with early check in and late check out. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break to celebrate our Ruby Anniversary with our family. Wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy all the facilities. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who wanted a special break.

The property is stunning! It is clean, spacious and homely and has everything that you could need. There is nothing that could have made our stay any better! Sam, the owner, is lovely and readily available to help with anything should you need. We would all highly recommend a stay at The Manor :-)

An absolutely wonderful 4 nights spent at Mickle Trafford Manor during May 2025.

Our party of 8 adults hired the venue for an annual gathering of friends, now scattered throutout the UK and France. Our event included a Murder Mystery Dinner, with a locally hired chef & waiter, who provided a first-class three course meal with pre dinner Canapés. The character-rich Manor, dating back to 1565, is the perfect venue comprising five nicely decorated bedrooms, with large comfortable beds, all with modern ensuite bath and/or shower rooms. The house was nicely presented by owner Sam, with fresh flowers, a welcome gift of Prosecco and chocolates, and spotlessly clean. Sam has furnished the house with some interesting memorabilia throughout, including vintage books and magazines which most people will recognise from their childhood, or their Granny's house! The modern kitchen/dining area is spacious and sociable and there are well-equipped cooking/dining facilities inside and out. The comfortable large lounge, plus two more lounge/sitting rooms, provided plenty of space for relaxing and chatting. The garden/games rooms were an wonderful bonus; perfect for entertainment and fun competitions. The Manor's facilities are well thought-out and having a large hot tub in the garden was another delightful bonus. The tub was well-used by our group, as was the covered outdoor seating area. We didn't use the sauna or the large gas BBQ, but likewise, they are good bonus features to have available. The large enclosed garden is peaceful and the lawn is the perfect size for garden games. We played croquet, petanque and archery. There is some road noise from the A56 traffic at peak times but it is not intrusive enough to spoil the property's ambiance. There are two very nice pubs nearby and Chester is easily accessible. Sam and her father are perfect hosts, attentive but not intrusive, and very helpful and cooperative. Our group give the property 5 stars plus, and we will be most certainly be booking again for next year.

What a week in this wonderful property!

From the property itself to the location so code to the stunning Chester and all amenities everything was above and beyond any property we have stayed in all across the UK. With our franco British families together for my birthday the ensuite bedrooms, the many lounges and activities available on site made it the perfect holiday for all ages! A very special mention to the owner Sam for being the most wonderful host and for Ben’s assistance anytime it’s required and let’s not forget John’s perfect restaurant recommendation near by - the Pheasant Inn only half an hour drive away is well worth a visit for the view point alone! Thank you very much for welcoming us in your wonderful Manor for such a competitive price for all on offer and so much more, we definitively will be back for our next family gathering and be recommending you to all our friends. A fabulous property with something for everyone.

The owner was extremely helpful leading up to, and on our arrival. Fresh flowers and a small hamper of goodies. The accommodation couldn’t be better. We’d come again.

This was a super property and so well appointed.

It was perfect for our family and had something for us all (three generations). We were very comfortable and it was extremely welcoming. The garden was wonderful and probably the best holiday property we have ever found! Our grandchildren are already asking if we could come again!!

A superb country house .

It must be one of Sykes’ best. Fresh flowers in the rooms. Immaculate gardens. A cake awaited the nine of us ( plus dog) and the very friendly owner Sam could not have been more welcoming. It’s a rambling historic house near Chester in quiet countryside. So many bathrooms and toilets , a huge well equipped kitchen and long dining table made meals a joy. Carefully collected antiques, a gifted interior design of colours and furnishings. The separate sound proofed (!) games room with pool table, air hockey, darts, table tennis, cards, piano plus a connected sauna and hot tub a couple of yards away! What a time my wife and I aged 80 enjoyed with our daughters and their families. Plenty of parking and all we needed for a memorable weekend. Thanks to Sam and her father John for being on hand to ensure all went smoothly. It’s was six star stay ! Peter and Pat

10 of us had a great 3-night stay.

The house felt like a home. It was clean and warm. The games room was really appreciated. Sam was welcoming, friendly and available for advice during our stay. A great place to spend a few days within easy reach of Chester.

Excellent house.

Good base for Chester and North Wales. We were concerned about road noise but it wasn't an issue. Sam very accommodating and on hand should there be any problems.

We have just had a brilliant week, the two main reasons are.

Firstly Sam the host is an amazingly caring and attentive host, full of knowledge of the surrounding area, secondly the Manor is amazing. Full of history and character, but at the same time equipped with everything you need for an amazing stay.

This is a lovely house, tastefully decorated and furnished with a very well equipped kitchen for eating in.

There are a number of pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance for eating out. The garden is a delight with a covered seating area, hot tub, sauna and a games and music room. Sam, the owner, is a very friendly and helpful lady. I absolutely recommend this property as a comfortable base to explore this area of the country.

Delightful property with lots of quirky features.

The owners were extremely helpful before and during the rental period and the property was well kept, inside and out. "House rules" were clear and reasonable (e.g. no glass in the hot tub). The hot tub was clean and very relaxing. Check in and check out were also very relaxed and allowed a great deal more flexibility than most places. Excellent location for most Chester and Chester-adjacent attractions. 8 adults and 2 kids never had space issues in either the house or the garden (and most of us could even fit in the hot tub at the same time!). Overall, an excellent location and host.

We had an amazing time!

Was great to relax and the kids loved playing in the garden and games room. Sam was really helpful and gave us lots of useful information on the surrounding area. We didn’t want to leave.

Mickle Trafford Manor is a beautiful spacious house, which by far exceeded our expectations.

(I don’t think the photo’s or details on the website do it justice). Both house and garden had plenty of seating for everyone (group of 8 adults). It was great to have enough comfortable seating in the lounge for everyone to sit in there together. (Very difficult to find this in holiday properties). The whole house had been carefully thought through to ensure there was enough of everything for everyone: seating, fridges, oven space, pots, pans, games (the list could go on). The house is very well equipped, beautifully presented and the games room was just brilliant. The hot tub was lovely for those in our group who wanted to relax during the evenings after days out. Sam and John were fab giving advice, such as where to visit. They were incredibly responsive to any questions regarding the house. Such lovely people too, very friendly and accommodating. The Manor is in a good location. In walking distance of two pubs. We had a Taxi for 4, from Chester centre back to the Manor which was under £10 (less than £2.50 each). It’s an easy drive to: Chester centre, many places of interest, Cheshire Oaks shopping village and an array of different supermarkets. We had a cyclist in our group who found some lovely cycle trails. In summary: A beautiful property exceeding any expectations, exceptional owners, great location. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing lady’s weekend away, the house I so well located for Cheshire Oaks, Chester Zoo etc. The house has lots of parking, amazing games room and activities, comfy beds, every room is en-suite, you could stay here and not need to leave the house. Perfect for families too. We had absolutely everything we needed and loved the little touches Sam left. Can’t wait to return! Thank you

A fabulous stay over Easter.

Beautiful fresh flowers everywhere. Easter decorations delighted the grandchildren.Wonderful welcome basket.Sammi was delightful and I felt able to contact her if required.The manor was great as previous reviews have said the games room suited all the family young and old. The kitchen having 2 fridge freezers extremely useful when there are 10 of you.Although the weather wasn’t the best we still had a lovely time.
