A fascinating place to stay.

Facilities were good given that it is 450 years old. Inevitably, a bit cold at first, given it was a cold Winter week, but good log burners and central heating. Plenty of hot water for showers. Good internet facilities and bedding. Well stocked kitchen. Great place for visiting tourists and larger groups. Dog friendly.

We had the most amazing stay in this beautiful, historical house.

Despite the house being around 400 years old it was lovely and warm from the central heating and the log burners made it super cosy. Everything you can think of was supplied, the kitchen had so much crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and utensils etc. As outlined in the property description this house is not suitable for anyone with reduced mobility, worth noting that there is no downstairs toilet so you do have to go upstairs every time you need to go. I only ventured up to the top floor once, as there were only two of us staying we didn’t need to use that floor. I would suggest this top floor only be used by fit adults/teenagers. There is no bathroom up there so in the night if they needed the bathroom they would need to climb over the beam and down the stairs, and not forgetting to duck their heads as they go down. We absolutely loved our stay and I enjoyed celebrating my 60th Birthday here. It was great for our dog too. We used an extending lead in the garden as it isn’t completely dog proof. Richard is a great host and left us a lovely welcome basket. Thank you Richard!

Our Christmas was made extra special by staying in this wonderful house.

We were warmly welcomed by Richard who was the perfect host. The plentiful welcome pack was most appreciated. The house was decorated with a lovely Christmas tree, with plenty of space for Santa to leave all the presents under! The house offers ample space; we were a family of 4 adults, 1 teenager, two 3 year olds and two labradors. The children absolutely loved exploring the house. The main sitting room is large with two comfortable sofas and a lovely log burner. Richard made sure we had plenty of logs etc to keep us warm during our stay. The kitchen also has a log burner and is well equipped with everything you need (other than a washing machine). We had lovely family meals sat around the large dining table. The bedrooms are big with adequate storage and all beds are super comfortable. The two bathrooms are very modern, one with double walk in shower, the other with a stand alone roll top bath. The garden is secure for both kids and dogs so you can let them outside without worrying. We booked to visit Reindeer Lodge on Christmas Eve, approx 5 min drive from the house. It was truly magical. There are also a number of country parks to explore not far from the property that are worth a visit. All in all, we had an amazing time at Y Fferm and would like to thank Richard and Rachel for giving us the opportunity to stay at this fabulous house. The house oozes history and we believe it would be good to have some information about the history of the house. I'm sure Richard would have been happy to provide this if asked however this could be available in the house for those interested in reading. Needless to say, would highly recommend.

The owners very kindly gifted a holiday to myself and my three children via a charity.

It was incredible to spend time in this house and the large garden (our dog also had a great time). I particularly loved using the free-standing bath in the evenings. We used apples from the garden to make crumble and enjoyed board games by the fire. I have arthritis so going up and down the stairs did become increasingly difficult as time went on, but I was aware of this prior to arriving. I recommend sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs to minimise trips upstairs, though you will need to go up to visit the toilet. Thank you again for a lovely welcoming stay.

Beautiful gardens, a warm welcome from Richard and a stunning amazing house to experience. Wow…I can’t recommend Y Fferm enough. A gem of North Wales. Considering I’m born and raised in the local area, I never know what an outstanding place was on my doorstep. I highly… highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

An amazing house, really enjoyed our stay.

The bread/milk/eggs were a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend and I’m sure we’ll be back again.

Sofas in the drawing room were uncomfortable, foam seat cushions have had their day and we all banged our heads on the hard wooden frame when leaning back.

Could do with a couple of small coffee tables. Sofa cover in the master bedroom needed a good clean too. Kitchen short of a few essentials, e.g. scissors, serving spoons. Could have done with a couple of larger roasting trays to feed larger groups. Struggled to cook a roast dinner for 7 people. For a house which sleeps 11, only 5 wineglasses and 3 water glasses. 3 of the garden chairs were broken. The house was surprisingly warm and very quick to heat up and the ample supply of logs and welcome basket were very welcome and thoughtful. Host was attentive and showed us the ropes on our arrival. Amazing to stay in an historic house with so many delightful, beautiful period features in tact.

We had a super 3 days. The grandchildren loved running round in the garden. Comfy beds. Everything was provided and a lovely welcome basket.

It was an absolute privilege to stay at the Fferm.

A wonderful experience that we hope to repeat. A breathtaking property that we were very grateful for being able to experience.

General feedback?

You've got an amazing house, it's in really good condition and is so much more comfortable than most modern buildings. It's a brilliant backdrop to holiday photos and the generous size of the rooms means that even with a full house, it never feels like guests are crowding each other.

A stunning period property that impressed us all.

We had a lovely weekend away and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Downstairs is huge with loads of room for all. Beds are super comfy. Garden is private/secluded and secure for our dog to,run around in. I can see us returning in the summer to enjoy the outside space more.

It was great having help so close at hand when we had questions and/or minor issues.

This is a very special building and it was great to spend time here. We enjoyed our stay. The stairs are steep and there are steps between rooms etc.

We had a fantastic time at Y Fferm.

The property is beautifully presented and had absolutely everything we needed. There a lovely pup about 5 mins walk down the road and some great walks nearby. Our host Richard was fantastic, he was very attentive to everything we needed but also give us space to enjoy our selves. All instructions were clear and easy to follow and check in check-out was a breeze. We had a truly great time. Highly Recommend !!!!

Loved the house and would not hesitate to recommend staying here.

The only downside being that there was quite a bit of dust and cobwebs in the kitchen particularly. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean though. Overall we had a great stay. The house is stunning and it is an experience in itself staying here!

An usual property that we loved especially the Grandchildren.

Everything catered for and the owner ensured our stay went without any issues. As highlighted , care must be taken by anyone less mobile due to the age of the property , we was also pleasantly surprised by how warm the rooms kept especially in March.

A gorgeous grade 1 listed property.

It isn’t for anyone less mobile but for the atmosphere and privilege to be in such a beautiful Elizabethan home it was marvellous. A real wintertime house! Incredibly cosy! We loved it!

We had the most wonderful and magical family Christmas at Y Fferm.

The kitchen was very well equipt, we had all we needed to make the all important big Christmas lunch. Everything was perfect, it was so much fun playing hide and seek in all the nooks and crannies of this lovely historic house. We had a good walk up Moel Famau on Boxing Day. Loggerheads at the bottom of this hill was also great for walks along the river. There is lots to see and do in the local area. The owners were really attentive answering any questions and the place looked so cosy and inviting when we arrived with the Christmas tree lit up. We would recommend to anyone for a lovely relaxing family stay. Thank you.

I have problems with my mobility and found the house not disability friendly.

The main concern that I had was that the 2 toilets were both on the middle floor and it took a while to climb the 15 steep and uneven steps to reach the middle floor. This could have been highlighted as there being this possible barrier. Otherwise, the other facilities were of a average/good standard.

Had a lovely week as described you will love this house if you love history I thought it was beautiful felt lucky to experience staying here Read the comments you should be fit for the stairs and uneven floors.

Felt really comfortable garden was great for free range kids and dogs loved cooking for the family in the huge kitchen. Hope any money made can be ploughed back into maintaining this house for future generations.

We absolutely loved our stay here, so well equipped and comfortable.

Everything was as described. Great location although a little hard to find initially!

This is a unique building and as a grade one listed Elizabethan manor house, it is very special.

There are many pluses to this house. The gardens are wonderfully large and great for dogs (there is just one slightly lower part of wall - I didn't think our dogs would get over but the younger one did but only once - I think it is pretty secure). The house was very spacious. And in most cases well equipped. The local pub is great. And the surrounding countryside is beautiful. The owners of the home immediately opposite the manor house are friendly and helpful. But there are disadvantages. There are very many changes of levels in the house - which are a consequence of its age - but if you have any mobility issues whatsoever this is not the house for you. We had originally planned to use the bedroom on the second floor but the stairs were very challenging and at their top there is a beam about knee high which you have to climb over. Given that the two toilets are on the first floor - no one felt it wise to take this bedroom. And my Sister fell in the shower room and sprained her wrist - again a change in level. The home owners clearly listen to feed back so please could you: 1. put out long in-shower/bath mats and shower mats for stepping out on to please? you may also wish to think about how to indicate/highlight a step down 2. The outside furniture needs upgrading. The wooden furniture is in poor state and the rattan style is not great either. A garden dining table plus separate seating would be great please. If you are active and have no mobility issues this is a wonderful house. Very special.

Stayed here with family and friends after our wedding.

Such a beautiful historic house with lovely gardens. Hands down the most memorable stay we have had. One of our guests got very emotional after sleeping in the bed, she said it was the most comfortable bed she’s ever slept in. Loved eating breakfast round the long table with all the family. It’s been too long since we all did that. The log fire was so cosy. Didn’t want to leave and would love to return one day. Perfect in every way!

A very relaxing stay,a few points to notice,serving spoons would be a help,as a Buffett, with no large spoons rather difficult,a coffee table ,or a few small sofa tables would stop having to put glasses and coffee cups on the floor,not very pleasant,as the fear of knocking them over, always in mind,maybe a nice few lamps in the lounge,rather than those rather large reading lamps,next to the fireplace,quite out of time with the property,all in all a few small changes would make this stay a ten out of ten.

It's was such a great stay at this Elizabethan Manor

Wow what a fabulous property the building oozes history and the walled garden was great for my little dog who loved pinching raspberries from the bushes.

We had some fantastic walks and days out, Llangollen was a particular highlight, we also visited Mold market due to the owners recommendation which was fab. My 8 year old niece loved figuring out what the patterns in the cobbles to the house were and can’t wait to go to school and tell her teacher all about it, it would of been nice if the office was a tv snug (my niece didn’t want to be too far away from us so couldn’t watch tv) as this seemed a bit of a wasted space. The fires were so cosy and welcoming with plenty of logs to keep us going. The welcome pack in the fridge was a lovely touch thank you for a fantastic week away.

We have just returned from a week stay at this wonderful historic house.

We found it to be extremely comfortable and really enjoyed playing with our two dogs in the garden. Orchard and paddock. We visited several local walks and Abergele beach which was amazing. The welcome pack was a great touch too. Would come back in a heartbeat.
