The Hay Barn

The Haybarn was just right for the 2 of us and we enjoyed our stay.

The bed was very comfortable and everything was supplied that was needed. The eggs from Olivia’s hens were worth buying and we visited the orchard to follow the trail and took photos to show our grandson to match the book.

Very nicely looked after cottage and grounds, generally to a very high standard.

Although I thought both the bed & sofa were past their best for support, but there were plenty of cushions to make it acceptable

The Haybarn is a great holiday cottage for 2 people to stay in.

It is clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The location is quiet and has a lovely orchard that you can walk around or sit and relax and star gaze in. The owners are very nice and are available if you need to ask them anything. It was lovely to meet the pony and goats and to watch the activities of the farms barn owls on the web cam each evening. We would highly recommend these beautifully converted barns. They are well placed for travelling to the local attractions, Chester, Liverpool and North Wales. Many thanks Wendy & Paul

Very friendly hosts, perfect location for us. Very quiet, comfortable and clean.

Matt and Rachel are the perfect hosts.

They go out of their way to ensure your stay is as pleasant as possible. They are available to answer any simple questions or queries via WhatsApps (like my “How do I turn the hob on?!” - in case you’re wondering, all of instruction booklets to the white goods are in the cupboard underneath the TV - we found them later!) The cottage is beautifully presented and the setting is amazing. Having the hot tub was lovely and the welcome package was great too. The orchard was a bonus and the owl/bird feeder/goat cams were incredibly addictive - seeing the owls with the chicks was like having our own private SpringWatch programme! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Excellent location for zoo and Cheshire oaks,the zoo was our main reason for visiting this location. Also took owners recommendation and ate at the Chester Fields excellent meal here

Cottage everything we needed, comfortable , clean beautiful surroundings .

We had a small issue which was dealt with by the owner . We found it very relaxing and having the Hot Tub was an added bonus never had one before, would highly recommend this cottage . Loved our stay thank you to the owners

Wonderful stay.

A home away from home, we will be coming back for sure. Perfect location for Cheshire Oaks and Park and Ride at Upton. We had a wonderful weekend away. Matt was really helpful and communication before our stay was great.

Absolutely lovely cottage - perfect for a romantic weekend away.

The owner called us before our arrival to warn us that the hot tub might not be working because of issues outside his control, but he managed to fix the problem himself. This was a big relief as the hot tub was a fantastic addition to the holiday and the owner provided an extra bottle of prosecco to cover the worry. We loved the barn owl camera, large number of birds around and orchard. Close and easy access to Chester and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

A really lovely cottage in a gorgeous setting.

Everything was clean and well maintained and there were lots of welcoming touches such as biscuits and milk for our arrival. Our host was friendly and provided some good tips on where to walk in the area. The Orchard is great for kids to follow the story sculpture trail and although we were child free, we spent some time there star gazing with flask of tea and it was lovely. We would definitely visit again. Thank you.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the Hay Barn.

We both absolutely loved the place and felt comfortable most of the time. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and the hosts were very lovely and took care of maintenance issues very fast. We had a bit of trouble turning down the temperature and keeping the heating off, the dials were confusing but other than that, the only complaint we have is the lack of a washing machine. However, these are minor issues to us and we would definitely come back!

Matt and his wife were extremely kind and helpful, particularly to my disabled husband, and in keeping us updated when a problem arose. We were fascinated by the web cams, the owls were wonderful. Becky's Kitchen is also very good. Excellent week. Thank you!

Beautiful little cottage fully equipped with everything you need.

Close to Chester, Upton park & ride and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet center.

We loved our stay in the Hay Barn.

The accommodation is amazing. The bed, the shower, the hot tub and the living area were perfect and up to a very high standard. Even provided a cot and high chair free of charge. Great communication throughout. Wonderful first holiday for our 8 month old daughter.

We had a lovely stay at our cottage with our 6 month old baby.

The place was spotless and had everything we needed. The orchard and story trail is a fantastic addition for the little ones. Perfect area too, so close to a lot of places like Cheshire oaks. Owner contacted us beforehand and asked if we would require a high chair or travel cot which was already in the cottage when we arrived. The wildlife cams were fantastic and any visitors we had during our stay were all very impressed! I was hooked on watching the baby owl! Overall a fantastic stay, we will definitely be back ☺️

Hot tub lovely! Parking is a bit tight so take a small car!

Lovely cottage with pretty much everything need for enjoying a break.

Only comment would be perhaps a blind in the bathroom for privacy reasons at night could be added. Car is essential for exploring the surrounding area, as most things are short drive away rather than trying to walk the country lanes. Web cams showing the owls (and their chicks) was great along with showing the goats, birds feeders and alpacas, best thing seen on TV for a while :) Orchard trail with hand carvings was lovely to see and visit. Matt was friendly and welcoming. Will definitely visit again

We had a perfect break at The Haybarn.

Everything was great. Loved the tale of Fudge so bought a book as a reminder of the lovely carvings. Owl cam was brilliant. Totally beautiful cottage.

Great holiday cottage, clean, comfortable, warm and with good facilities, even had a bike rack complete with lock!

This cottage was everything we dreamed of nothing less than fantastic what I did like were the small touches of bottle of presseco in the fridge the Easter egg these little things made our weekend I will defo be telling our friends about this place the one small thing which did not bother us was the tv in the bedroom did not work but not really a concern well thank you for a smassing stay I would give it 11 out of 10 thank you again.

Cottage was immaculate and had everything you could need. The hot tub was an amazing bonus too. Close to local amenities, and to Chester itself including the local attractions. Also great location for access to North Wales. Loved it! Would 100% recommend it! Will definitely return. I’ve been raving about it to my friends and family. Thank you so much for the best stay!

Fabulous cute ottage.

Immaculate. Lovely grounds. Perfectly central and closw to Chester City, Zoo, Cheshire Oaks, Park & Rides and other places. Loved the link to view the hosts animals on the tele. (Sad we left before knowing if Mummy Llama managed to feed/bond with her baby) Only one very minor point. Hot tub off at 10pm is far too early for tourists on holiday. By the time you get back from activities and feed it leaves no time to enjoy. Stay in lots of hot tub places (reason we pay more for a tub) and never known this very early cut off time). We would still recommend and wish to come back with friends if the hot tub time is expanded. If you are not bothered about the hot tub it is a perfect setting.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hay Barn.

Probably the best accomodation standard we have stayed in. The webcams were a bonus and we watched the owls hatching and feeding.

A lovely short stay in the Hay barn, bed was super comfy and the welcome bottle of fizz was a nice surprise!

Fantastic couple of days break.

The cottage and surrounding area was beautiful. Also not to far from Chester. The owners we more than helpful with any requests.

We stayed here whilst we were waiting our house sale to go through and we are so pleased we made the choice to stay here.

Firstly the owners are really lovely genuine people who will do anything for you. I did not ask them for much as to be honest there was nothing we needed yet the young man owner who I would see regular on the farm and he was such a pleasant man and there were two men in fact who were both very nice. The accomodation was absolutely beautiful and had the very best quality furnishings from bed linen to toilet brushes everything was quality. The whole experience was fabulous for me as I've just left East Sussex where I was a Radiology Nurse and the last two years have been dreadful therefore to be at these cottages to truly relax in awesome surroundings away from hospitals and patients and Covid was just amazing. I was initially worried about my partner as he is slightly infirm being 88 years however it was perfect for him. I didn't use the jacuzzi as its not my thing however all these little quality touches made the place special. It is a spectacular hideaway in a truly awesome setting. Although I'm moving to a new home here I'd love to come back stay a night or two late Summer. Thank you to the owners and the young man who Is one of the owners,you have a really lovely well thought out amazing place. I hope to come back again just for an odd day or two. Kind regards Michael

Arrived at short notice, the owner made sure the place was warm.

Was lovely and clean , fantastic property. Loved the old beams in the bedroom, huge bed , beautifully furnished, lovely peaceful location. Would highly recommend. Thank you for a fantastic stay

Excellent quality of build, warm, clean and super location.

Sofa cushion seating a little squishy so not good for the back.As previous people feedback, it really could do with a simple blind on the bathroom window. However, everything else was brilliant and really enjoyed our stay.

This is a place you can visit towns and major attractions with ease, then return sit back and relax, we had only one issue bed loverly but mattress a bit hard Would visit again

Also appeared to be no shaver socket. Extremely quiet and clean. Very well presented. Would definitely recommend to others

Comfortable cottage in a good location for access to Chester and countryside

Beautiful cottage with high quality fixtures and furnishings set in a lovely country spot but near to all amenities.

Felt comfortable there especially during Covid 19 pandemic, so clean, we absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go back

Beautiful cottage set in a very peaceful and well kept property.

Youd thought of pretty much everything amenity wise and the milk, ice and the prosecco in the fridge was a lovely little touch as well as the very tasty tea selection and biscuits! We also loved watching some of the wildlife on the cameras too!

This is a beautiful cottage in an idyllic setting, adjacent to the owners house.

The cottage was very clean, spacious, well equipped and they left a bottle of wine in the fridge, plus a big bag of ice cubes. We found the shower floor to be slippery, but on telling the owners a bathmat was supplied immediately. The cottage is adjacent to a large field containing benches and fruit trees, and we were encouraged to take some fruit home, which we did. We would not hesitate to recommend this lovely cottage.

This is a new barn conversion very tastefully done, and to a high spec.

Particular attention has also been paid to the outside areas to make both family friendly, and ideal for sitting out for drinks etc. Neat & colourful flower beds around too. Being so close to Chester and the motorway junctions it is easy to strike in any direction which provides a great choice of places to visit and activities. Would love to return if the opportunity arises, Matt & Rachel are attentive hosts.

our holiday cottage was more than amazing.

even though we did not meet the owners they made us feel so welcomed, and have gone above and beyond, you can see the hard work put into the cottages and they really are a true asset! we will 100% be back in the feature!!

Our hosts, Matt and Rachel were ever so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, even though we didn't need anything as it was all there.

We had everything to make us as comfortable as we are in our own home, including a bottle of bubbly in the fridge on our arrival. When converting the farm outbuildings to holiday units they managed to keep some rustic features of a barn and still have all the modern equipment. The pubs were close, but not close enough to walk to.

We had a lovely few days in The Hay Barn, the owners left us a very nice goodie basket and a very thoughtful bottle of fizz in the fridge.

These items were very much appreciated.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic we were unable to explore the local area, the cottage was ideal and we had all our needs met for a comfortable stay,.

The cottage is in an ideal location to explore and we will definitely return when things are back to normal.

The issue of having no WiFi was a problem as I was also still having to work.

I appreciate that this is supposedly be forthcoming. Generally the cottage was very well equipped and finished to a high standard.

The place was beautiful and very cosy, off road parking outside was a bonus, and the owners were very welcoming and quick to respond to any queries. The welcome parcel was a very thoughtful touch. Sykes Cottages were brilliant, very professional and communication was good throughout. They are fast becoming the go-to people for holiday breaks. Thank you to everyone.

We had a fabulous 3-day weekend break at The Hay Barn and thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.

The pictures don't do the place justice - it's stunning. We couldn't find anything to fault with it and the little extras that we received on our stay just topped it off. We would highly recommend and would stay here again should we have a return visit to Chester!!
