Cartway Cove

Our 3rd time staying at Cartway Cove and still impressed by its location and views.

It’s had a fresh lick of paint externally and the decking has been repaired, both of which were needed. Just such a shame that it’s not cleaned to a high level before arrival as it lets the property down. Dirty skirting, spiders webs, wet and dirty floor mat on arrival and no welcome essentials. You still have to bring your own towels and bedding which in 2026 seems a little bizarre. The 9.30 am checkout time , guessing a hangover from Covid times and crazy early should really allow a cleaner sufficient time to do a proper clean between guest stays. I am sure the owners would be disappointed if they know their property was being let down in this way. It is still a great location, beautiful views from several rooms along with its great outdoor entertaining space. Port Gaverne beach is literally at the bottom of the hill and provides a super spot to spend the day paddle boarding, kayaking and cliff jumping. Will hopefully be back again some time.

Cartway Cove surpassed our expectations and we had the best holiday.

The area and location are idyllic and it felt like we were abroad. The house itself was more than perfect - exceptionally clean and well maintained, the beds were comfortable and we had everything we could need, from a well-stocked kitchen, to utility supplies, games, books and puzzles. The garden was better than imagined and we enjoyed many evenings on the balcony or in the hut watching the sunset. We found it very child-friendly and ideal for a happy comfortable family holiday. We have so many memories from this one. Thank you.

We stayed here about 20 years ago, a number of times. The facilities are very good, it's better than we remember! A great location and views, which of course was helped by a heat wave in our second week.

Beautiful cottage with stunning views, had a slight issue with the grill, but a quick phone call and it was sorted the same day, did not detract from a wonderful stay.

Comfortable , spacious cottage. Wasn't bothered about taking own bedding/ towels. Book go again. Had to contact them as we had no hot water, sorted within the day Great man called Kevin, lovely man.

This is the 3rd time we’ve rented from you.

We love the house, we love the location. However there are two things that would make us hesitate before renting again. Firstly, the house is a great space, well equipped in a great location. It’s let down by not having better pillows on the bed (ours smelled old and musty and were lumpy. It’s also let down by us having to bring or rent bedding. I’ve done both with you and renting cost me an additional £100 plus I had to figure out which linen went onto which bed and make up the beds myself. That doesn’t feel like a holiday. There are no hand or bath towels. I’d sooner pay £100 extra for the rental and turn up to freshly made beds. The dishwasher smelled so bad we couldn’t use it. Also the area around the downstairs bathrooms smelled like cat urine from the time we arrived. These are all smaller details but would make a significant difference to our experience even if it cost a little more. The second thing is that the first two times we rented we booked through John bray. We weren’t able to do that this time. Our experience with Sykes was that they were inflexible, quoted rules at us and I don’t even think we were speaking to humans- I think it was AI. They gave us incorrect information which I questioned and then they gave me correct info. There’s no wiggle room for anything being slightly considered that doesn’t conform to their rules. I left my keys there and was told it would be a minimum £30 before they even checked if they were there! How rubbish is that? It’s not so hard to put some keys in an envelope and mail. So my impression of them is of a massive rental company that has one size fits all. Thought it would be good for you to get feedback about your agents. We love the cottage and could cope with the linen and bedding but the agents put us right off. There are lots of different places to rent from and customer experience is huge part of how a lot of agencies choose to work. Sykes do not.

All good, except for the fact that we had to bring our own linen and towels.

These should be provided.

We had a lovely second stay at Cartway Cove.

However, a couple of things we were slightly disappointed with. Firstly, when paying premium rates for the summer holidays, I don't believe it right we should have to provide our own towels and bedding. Not just that, but when we arrived the last people's bedding was on the doorstep and ours was no-where to be seen. We had paid an additional cost to hire bedding and I then spent the first hour of my holiday frantically trying to contact people to find out what had happened before offices closed for the weekend at 5pm. Eventually our bedding arrived and we then had to make all the beds! Again, when paying a lot of money for a week's stay, I don't see how this can be justified. Also, the tap was leaking in the kitchen and there was a loose slab in the garden as well. There was a Maintenance Man there when we first arrived but these don't appear to have been looked at. Overall we had a brilliant week as always, and it wouldn't put us off staying again, but these are points I wanted to mention.

With the great reviews, our expectations were high but we were not disappointed.

Thoughtfully equipped and tastefully decorated, with some beautiful art. Special mention for the wonderfully powerful shower. Ground floor bedroom and stunning views from open plan living room were a bonus with a less able mother in law. Perfectly placed a short walk from relatively bustling Port Isaac and its tasty restaurants but far enough away to feel secluded. Scenic coastal path is literally on the doorstep, whilst quiet Port Gaverne allows an outdoor drink at pub or award winning restaurant, with sheltered cove for rock jumping or SUP with the teenagers at high tides. All in all a wonderful week, so we will be back. Thank you

We had a lovely 4 th stay at cartway cove A new set of frying pans would provide a better cooking experience The dishwasher tablet compartment doesn’t open during washing cycle A welcome pack on arrival would be a nice touch

What a wonderful property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate all of the effort it takes in making sure everything is just right for guests. Simply stunning location and we were made to feel very comfortable. Days spent exploring the amazing Cornish beaches and evenings star gazing and walking around the famous Port Isaac. We were two adults and three children ( 17,15 11) and the space was perfect of us all. The only negatives are the checkout time - 9.00 am is way to early post Covid and no linen included. Missing the views already and looking forward to a return visit.

Had a wonderful stay with my sons.

The cottage was in a perfect location, with on the doorstep coastal walks. Port Isaac was only a short walk away too. Enjoyed meals and drinks at the two local restaurants in Port Gaverne. Cottage had breathtaking views. My only request would be include the linen and towels, apart from that it was really superb stay !

Second year back to Cartway Cove and have loved spending time here with our friends and family.

Superb views.

Few things needed fixing eg shower base, loose hob knob and some v dangerous loose tiles on patio which we fell off.

But the location and house is gorgeous and we had a wonderful time. Linen shld be provided for the price. Key wasn’t in safe when we arrived so we waited an hour and 9am is waaay too early for departure COVid or no COVid. You shld seriously adjust that and make arrangements accordingly. Lack of staff is not an excuse. All that said we would revisit in a heartbeat. Thank you Jonathan and Jane

Could not have wished for a better place to stay.

The cottage provided everything we needed and more. The view was simply stunning and the garden area was perfect to enjoy a few drinks on, when it was warm enough

Having stayed here 10 years ago, it was wonderful to come back and enjoy the cottage with its superb aspect.

The new ensuite in the main bedroom (while not essential) is a welcome addition. A really lovely week! I think if there was one minus, it would be that the frying pans all seem to have lost their 'non-stick' ability. With such a well equipped kitchen it's great to be able to cook from home on occasion, but I think the frying pans have all seen better days. As I say, a very small minus which in no way detracted from the holiday!

We all loved the cottage - couldn’t beat the location.

The upstairs bedroom and en-suite were superb. The other 2 bedrooms not quite so comfortable but perfectly adequate. Kitchen very well equipped and perfect downstairs layout for a family gathering. Wonderful to have parking too!

Ordering bed linen was a mess!

No bed linen was delivered and we had to go to the John Bray office to collect- after 4.30 on a Friday when most staff had gone home. We were given the incorrect linen and had to return the next day to exchange! Not impressed! Apart from that we had a lovely week and the house was very comfortable.

I have emailed a response a couple of times directly to an email sent to us with the details of the cottage , hoping for a direct reply but obviously no one checks or reads them.

This is a fantastic property sadly let down on this occasion by very dirty stained pillows . Food deposits left under sofas from previous guests and 'nasty' bits left in the spare bedroom which I could hazard a guess at but didn't want to repeat! Who would leave this is beyond me! The living room had numerous cobwebs and some of the utensils were dirty. The BBQ had been left dirty and used .I'm sure the owners would be quite disappointed . Especially in these 'pandemic' times we expected a bit of extra care .

We had a really lovely holiday with our children and grandchildren.

The location was great with spectacular sea views and the house very pleasant. We particularly liked the outdoor eating facilities.
