  • "Overall we had a lovely, relaxing stay."

There were just a few things that meant we probably wouldn't visit again. We were expecting the property to be a little more private and secluded. Nettlecoombe is right next to reception and overlooked by neighbouring properties. We felt a little awkward being outside in the garden when we saw our neighbours looking out of their bedroom window. We were also disturbed by workmen working noisily outside the cottage during our stay. Not ideal when you want a quiet relaxing break. While we wanted quiet and privacy, we weren't expecting to be so far away from everything. We were disappointed to see the onsite restaurant closed after 5pm. It would have been nice to have lovely evening meals. We do like to have a drink while on holiday with dinner, but there aren't any restaurants or pubs you can walk to. So the only other option is to cook and stay in the cottage. I would have also expected a few touches to be provided inside the cottage that would have made our stay more enjoyable. Things like a few complimentary dishwasher tablets so you don't have to hand-wash dishes on holiday or buy a big bag of your own. A cleaning spray would have been useful for wiping down kitchen surfaces. There were also a few dirty dishes that previous guests hadn't cleaned properly. Being a luxury resort, I would have expected robes and slippers to be provided. Overall we had a nice time, but not ideal for us.

MARHAMCHURCH

Bude 2.5 miles; Tintagel 17.7 miles.

Marhamchurch is a fantastic base for those looking to explore the Cornish coast and is only 2.5 miles from the coastal town of Bude. This quiet village has a church at its centre and there is a very useful local shop and pub. Nearby Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafes to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre. Within a short drive are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
