Corner Cottage

Lovely location and has the potential to be 5 stars but… lack of available cutlery/mugs/ oven ware/glasses meant constant washing up to ensure clean items ready for use.

Badly fitted dishwater and fridge - iced up and poor at keeping foodstuffs cool enough. The property was generally tatty, needed decorating, mismatched paint jobs begun but not finished. We had to mop the downstairs floor as the mat was soaked on arrival. On the positive note, the bed was comfy, decent shower and bathroom, nice towels. Very nice welcome hamper, quality kettle and toaster. Such a shame some basics let the cottage down that could easily be rectified. Would’ve stayed again; expected better at the price charged. The bathroom has recently been refitted and is good, save that the shower screen leaks and the bathroom door doesn't hold closed.

Neither does the bedroom door for that matter. However the kitchen is pretty much on its last legs and needs the same treatment that the bathroom had. It is seriously on need of replacement and is worn/tired. More than 4 mugs would have been appreciated. Overall the cottage needs a thorough re-paint and freshen up. Clearly someone has had a crack at the glosswork but sadly the shade of paint used was darker than the original and it is obvious where it has been "touched up". These issues aside, the cottage is in a lovely remote spot. We'll come back to the area but not to the cottage (at least until the issues above have been addressed).

Fantastic location right next to the beautiful Porthgwarra cove and coastal paths , with a great cafe right next door.

The cottage was very comfortable with a fabulous bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen/living/dining room was a bit smaller than expected but adequate for 2 people. Overall we had a great time there and would love to go back.

We have stayed here several times and it’s a fantastic location.

It’s just a shame that it needs a little refurb. It’s now dog friendly so both rugs have dog hairs embedded . Could also do with a lick of paint. As it is very cut off it would also be nice if you supplied a dish cloth and washing up liquid. On a positive note the welcome pack was fantastic as always.

Beautiful location.

Lovely cottage, but it needs a deep clean and a freshen up. The rugs in the living room and bedroom need attention as they have dog hairs embedded in them and the hoover provided will not remove them. Please remember not everyone has dogs and people have asthma.

The location of the property is stunning.

The cottage it's self was lovely and I would definitely stay again. I feel the inside of the cottage would benefit from some TLC. area's are somewhat tired and need attention. Having holiday let my own cottage n Brixham, therefore knowing what guests would expect, I would suggest pillow and mattress protectors on the bed as standard. A couple of laundry capsules (not the very old and degrading laundry pad that was left). Flowers as shown in the photo's . The welcome hamper and fridge items were outstanding. Overall the cottage was a pleasure to stay in just time for a tidy up.

Wonderful location and very cosy and comfortable cottage. Great to have the cafe just a step or two away and of course Porthgwarra cove with its resident seals. Amazing walks both ways along the south west coastal path

The downstairs boot room is a great space for boots, waterproofs and other gear.

The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is very clean and newly refurbished. The wood burner works well making the living space very cosy. The kitchen is compact but fine for just the two of us. Overall a lovely cottage and amazing location.

The location of this property is its best feature - the cove is in view, with seals swimming within view from the cottage window.

The cottage is well appointed and has all the equipment expected. The boiler downstairs smells of fumes, but otherwise all was perfect.

Corner Cottage was the perfect getaway in an idyllic setting.

Porthgwarra is beautiful and placed in an area where you can just leave all worries behind and take picturesque walks for miles and miles. The cottage itself is very well equipped and cosy, the bed and pillows so comfortable. There is absolutely no light pollution in the cove and it was amazing to sleep so well in the quietness (only lightly broken by the waves lapping onto the beach) waking only to the dawn light. The Cornish hamper is amazing and every bit of it enjoyed. The local Cornish pasties supplied by the cafe opposite are delicious. The WiFi issue we had was resolved very quickly (Thanks ) We have no problem recommending this lovely holiday cottage to anyone wanting a perfect hideaway.

This was our second visit to the beautiful Porthgwarra.

We love it! Compact but luxurious too. The only thing that is missing is two bath sheets. Bath towels are quite small and bath sheets would be so welcome. We hope we will be able to escape to Corner Cottage again.

Loved our stay at Corner Cottage.

Extremely comfortable with THE best view of an unspoilt coastline. Was a joy washing up looking at the view!! Bed was very comfy with a powerful shower and all very well thought through interior, making the most of every space. Only thing missing was oven gloves!. Porthgwarra cafe is right next door with fantastic pasties. A true gem of a property.

Maybe hooks on back of bathroom/bedroom doors would be useful

We came back as promised and this time with our nearly one year old.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at this special place. We loved introducing her to its beauty and hope she's going to love the sea and bird life as much as we do.

This place has always been a home away from home and I was so excited to return again.

Lovely Little Cottage to stay in near the Cove.

Great views from window. I would say this is a great place to stay as a base and get away from it all. Thank you for welcome basket, much appreciated.

We have stayed in Corner and Cove cottages while managed by the St Aubyn estate many times in the last 15 years.

This year a decline in management and attention to detail was noticeable. Unlike before, there was no indication of who was in charge, and there was no representative present on the spot. Management: The password for the WiFi no longer worked. I twice phoned one of the two phone numbers given for the 'management team' to sort this out. The first time I did not manage to get through at all; the second time I spoke to a lady who said she would look into this and report back but failed to do so ( a text message would have been fine). So free WiFi as listed was not available. Key safe pass code: When I made the booking we were told that this was the same as we had used in the past. The message a week before arrival did not point out that the code had been changed, and as it contained the same numbers as before though in a partially different order I did not notice this. Fortunately someone on the spot was able to give us the new code, if not we would have been unable to get into the cottage. There were a number of instances of poor attention to detail in the cottage: Impossible to open several windows. Heated towel rail not working. Poorly maintained binder of instructions and publications of local interest. No ice tray or oven gloves. Liner in one bin only. Overall, there was a sense that the cottage was less well maintained than in the past.

It was a wonderful cottage in a great location.

Fully equipped for home baking and home cooked meals! The scenery was magnificent as was the swimming with the seals each day from the cove.

Holiday cottage was lovely as we’ve come to expect from St Aubyn Estate Cottages.

We did miss slightly not having the booking through an employee of the estate, and found the final contact from Cornish Cottage Holidays a little patronising. The treats hamper was wonderful and much nicer than anticipated. The setting of the cottage was unsurpassable, where else could you sit in the window seat to watch seals in the cove?

Perfect for relaxing and recharging. Well equipped and comfortable and very clean. Excellent cafe next door with lovely staff and the best steak pasties. We didn’t want to leave!

Extremely well equipped and beautifully clean cottage.

Only a suggestion but some hooks on the back of the bathroom and bedroom door but other than that it has to be one of our most relaxing holidays in a good few years! I have no hesitation in recommending both Sykes and all involved with this cottage. Simply beautiful all round.

Such an amazing place, the cottage is perfect for two people, very cosy.

The view from the sitting room window looking down the Cove is a real bonus especially for keeping an eye out for the seals! Although the weather was very changeable, it was February after all, it was exhilarating. The Cafe is great too. Staff so helpful and friendly throughout. We would heartily recommend this cottage and location.

This has been a very special place to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

We've stayed at Corner Cottage 5 or 6 times in the early 2000's. We're very pleased that we can now include our dog in the holiday - The Welcome hamper, the prints and the fabrics all add to the charm of Corner Cottage.

Visited so many parts of beautiful Cornwall over many years but this was our first visit to Porthgwarra and what a gem to find!

Came here to celebrate out 25th wedding anniversary, and have had the most wonderful of weeks. Weather has been so kind and have been out of the coastal path most days with Molly our dog. Stunning scenery and was lucky to see several seals as well as choughs. Cottage is cosy and everything well thought of with all home comforts. Views from window seats are second to none and so lovely to spend time in a place that is so tranquil, peaceful and at one with nature. Bed super comfortable and fantastic shower. Welcome hamper was a lovely touch and café pastries are highly recommended. A very special place - we will return. Thank you

Our first visit here.

We came to celebrate a big birthday for my husband and we were not disappointed. We loved the cottage and found the downstairs utility section so useful for 'stuff' and our faithful Labrador, Skipper. The walks from the cottage were breath-taking, stunning and incredible. Each corner turned gave another soul wrenching jolt. We lead the Royal Marine Band, Plymouth at the Minack - Fantastic. Bought crab and a lobster from Stevenson in Newlyn - delicious. My husband had a special flight around the coast as a birthday present, piloted by Gary Perry of Air Cornwall, Land's End airfield - completely recommend him and his aircraft. Sennen, Cape Cornwall... so many wonderful places. We will be back, thank you.
