  • "Grandpa Dixon's was the perfect place for our family to stay."

The cottage was tastefully decorated with a lot of thought put into making it a holiday retreat where we felt at home straight away. The views over the fields at the back were amazing. It was very peaceful but just minutes away by car into Padstow. There are some gorgeous beaches and coastal walks nearby. We've booked again for next year and look forward to returning. Thank you Andy and Faye for everything.

The location is just down the road from Padsow and perfectly positioned to explore east and north Cornwall. We will definitely recommend to our friends. Hope to visit again In the near future.

  • "What a wonderful place Grandpa Dicksons is!"

From the moment we pulled into the driveway and saw the spacious, beautiful and fully enclosed gardens we knew we were in for a lovely relaxing week with our 2 dogs. The location was perfect, so peaceful and felt away from it all, yet only down the road from Padstows bustling harbour with all its pubs, restaurants and shops! Once inside, Grandpa Dicksons was immediately warm and welcoming, it was spotlessly clean, beautifully presented and during our stay we were exceptionally comfortable and cosy, everything was of good quality and a high standard... Andy and Faye have thought of just about everything, right down to supplying bird seed to keep the feeders topped up, so that you can enjoy the many feathered guests who visit the garden...Oh, and the squirrel who taps on the lounge door when they are empty

  • "Had a wonderful holiday, Grandpa Dixon’s is well appointed, well equipped, and our home from home."

Quiet and peaceful this is by far and above one of the best places we have stayed and we have stayed in many and they have all been great. We have had a wonderful week and headed home with our batteries recharged safe in the knowledge that we have another holiday to look forward to when we come back to Grandpa Dixon’s in the not too distant future. I should add that thanks to Annie the cottage is scrupulously clean and so welcoming.

  • "The cottage is good, but would be significantly improved by better quality mattresses and bed linen that is washed and then dried immediately, the duvet covers and pillow cases smelt damp."

I have been advised that the owners like spiders, We would prefer that bedrooms were free from cobwebs and spiders on arrival. The main living area and kitchen was very comfortable and well equipped.

  • "Overall property was excellent for where it was, for outlook, facilities and comfort."

Was let down on two main areas: a) hot water supply to main bathroom was poor, e.g. impossible to have one shower directly after another or shower after having had bath. Consequence was that small electric shower room had to be used by us all - something we wanted avoid having come together from 2 households in a family bubble (COVID-19). Had also anticipated super clean accommodation partic because of Covid - however property had clearly not had a deep clean for a long time, ingrained dirt obvious. Having said that, kitchen/bathroom facilities were satisfactorily clean, bed linen/towels were clean. Suppose just expected better with Covid, but no special efforts obvious. Owner courteously rang us on arrival to say hello and there was welcome milk, biccies for us.

Thank you for staying with us at Grandpa Dickson’s. It was lovely to chat with your party on the phone that first evening and to hear your enthusiasm and appreciation of Grandpa Dickson’s. It was kind of you to say that you can tell when something is prepared to the highest quality. We are so sorry to hear that you subsequently had difficulty with the water. We can only think that perhaps you didn’t use the “boost” function? (This is labelled beside the bathroom). Grandpa Dickson’s is an eco-friendly house that heats water using the Economy7 system during the night. This usually provides enough water for a day however the system is easily boosted to heat further using the button by the second bathroom. We have checked with subsequent guests who say all has worked well. To supplement the signs, we will ensure we also explicitly mention this boost facility to all future guests. Thank you for asking about cleaning. We are spending hours extra each week to deep clean the cottage. In all areas of hygiene, we are going beyond the recommendations. For example, each week, all of the cushions, pillows, throws and duvets (not just the covers!) are rotated out of the cottage and new ones brought in. With these steps and many others, you can be sure that the cottage was thoroughly and hygienically prepared for you. We hope that this response is reassuring. You are always warmly welcomed at Grandpa Dickson’s. Property Owner

  • "Great location, Cottage was very well equipped."

Garden secure which was great as we had our two dogs for company. Nice touches included shortbread and milk in the fridge. Cosy cottage, some minor issues need attending to however as it is at the end of the season we'd expect would be picked up in time. Would definitely return.

  • "Bedding was a problem for us as the majority of pillows and quilts were feather and 3 out of 4 of us are allergic to feathers."

Even the spare ones in the wardrobes were feather. The only shower was in the tiny bathroom with hardly any room to dry yourself, the large bathroom only had a bath which we didn’t use. The use of the landline telephone (with honesty box) was so useful as the mobile signal was hit and miss.Very peaceful and relaxing property with loads of extra touches. A very enjoyable weeks holiday.

The location is perfect if you enjoy the area around Padstow and beyond. Coastal path users will enjoy its location and appreciate the comfort of the property upon returning. Its very well appointed and has a lovely airy feel about it. Only downside was the outdoor furniture, could do with updating. Apart from that its a fantastic base for a break in North Cornwall.

  • "This is a lovely place perfectly positioned for padstow although if you want to walk into town be prepared for a hike!"

we were hoping to walk in regularly with a toddler but that is definitely a no go. Although the lodge is on a street with a few other properties it is still really private. A bbq would be a good addition and an outdoor table that you could eat a meal on as the veranda is lovely but the outdoor seating is getting a little weathered and only suitable for drinks. Would definitely return. Nice little welcome treats too.

Place was well equipped and had everything we needed. Our one complaint was that it was not the cleanest in places, there was collections of dust under the beds and dining tables which wasn't great considering the rental charge

  • "The property is fantastic, however in the write up it states’’ hop, skip and a jump from the saints way, camel trail etc’’ what it doesn’t mention is that you need to navigate a very busy, narrow road with no pavement to reach it?"

I wouldn’t advise walking down there with dogs or children and feel this should be highlighted in the details. Also some general maintenance on the decking is required as some of the wood is rotting particularly near the gate. *************************************************************************************************************** Owner response : I have been in touch with Sykes and I have amended the description of our property due to your feedback. I am glad you thought the property was fantastic.
