Mobile reception was difficult for us, but probably varies according to one's mobile provider.

  • "We enjoyed a great week in Lower Rissick Cottage."

It was comfortable, cosy, had all the facilities we needed, and was quiet. The owners, who lived next door, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Despite its long access lane, it is well placed for visiting west Cornwall.

  • "This is a very lovely cottage in a beautiful secluded area very close to stunning beaches."

Great walking in countryside. Sometimes difficult to find inland country walks because of lack of signage but coast walks are very clear. So recommend a good ordanance survey map.

  • "The cottage was warm and comfortable with everything we needed for a simple get away as a couple."

The location was great too, for exploring the great outdoors at the "far end" of Cornwall - so long as you're not put off by the long lane down form the main road (we weren’t!). The owner was friendly but not intrusive and quickly dealt with anything we asked. I hope we’ll return someday – it’s a lovely area.

  • "Your website states that there were 3 cottages which could accommodate up to 12 people."

We booked this cottage assuming it was next door to The Old Barn where my niece and her husband and my two great nieces were staying. This meant we would be next door to each other. On arrival we discovered this was not the case. The only way to get to The Old Barn was by car from our cottage for a distance of half a mile. I do not drive and had to rely on my friend to take me to see my niece by car. There was no way I could have walked to see them. This meant we couldn’t communicate other than by phone to make plans for the next day. My niece arranged a joint Tesco order for our holiday and we had to go by car to collect this. I really look forward to this holiday every year so I can spend quality time with my niece and family. Matters were made worse when my friend was unwell and therefore unable to drive me round to see my niece. We felt very isolated. There was access between the two properties through the side of the owners garden but this was not allowed. Life would have been so much simpler. The owner was away and had left house sitters in charge. We did complain to Helen but she said we had no alternative but to drive to see my niece. This really spoilt our holiday. I have been coming to Cornwall in self catering for over 30 years and have never had cause to complain in the past. The cottage was lovely but not being near to my niece spoilt it all. My niece felt so sorry for me she even thought was there a way we could move in with them.

The owners regret that the 200m distance between Lower Rissick and The Old Barn was a problem for you. This is not an issue which has been raised before in the previous 11 years of renting the property. The owners would have been happy to drive you to the Old Barn if you had made them aware. Property Owner

We had a wonderful, restful holiday in an excellent cottage.

  • "We enjoyed an excellent week: the cottage was lovely, well-equipped,bright and airy and very private which is important to us."

The little garden was great, again very private. The owners were there if you wanted them but were very discreet and allowed us privacy. It was well located, near to Newlyn where my husband had a 2 day art course but also to Sennen and St Just. The only disadvantage was that the walks straight out of the cottage were not so good as some we have rented, but that was a minor aspect out of the total holiday.

About the location

PENZANCE

St Ives 8 miles. Helicopter to Isles of Scilly - 30 minutes

Penzance hosts Golowan, the Midsummer Carnival, and The Literary Festival. There are also The Exchange, Newlyn and Penlee Art Galleries. One of Cornwall’s most popular holiday areas is the spectacular sweep of Mount’s Bay, from the cliffside fishing village of Mousehole through Penzance and around to beautiful Marazion, the coastline hides a wealth of sandy beaches, rocky coves as well as winding village streets and other places to visit and explore. Connected by a causeway to the shore at Marazion is the National Trust’s stunningly beautiful St Michael’s Mount with its hilltop castle and Mediterranean gardens. Walk across at low water and take one of the ferry boats back when the tide is up. Penzance with its winding streets, shops, clubs, restaurants and harbour is a must as it is the jumping-off point for day trips to the Isles of Scilly as well as being the harbor. The South West Coast Path passing through Penzance winds its way along the clifftops towards Land’s End. On the way, stop off for a coffee and a rest at beautiful Lamorna Cove, explore the open air Minack Theatre and marvel at the cliffs as you approach Gwennap Head. A stunning walk for those seeking solitude, exercise and some of the UK’s best coastal scenery. Penzance is the perfect holiday base. Ideally placed for exploring this land of Celtic myth and legend and with enough to do and see in the immediate area to keep all the family occupied.
