  • "This was our second stay at Thalassa - we had a fabulous time."

Unsurpassed views, fabulous sunsets which can be enjoyed from the patio on warm evenings or from the sunroom/conservatory if a bit chilly. The house has so much space for everyone to enjoy in comfort. The kitchen was really well equipped and had everything you could think of and more! I can’t wait to stay there again! PS - Just one note - the information booklet for the house stated rubbish/recycling would not be collected until Tuesday (after a Thursday changeover), but they actually collected it on Friday morning (the day after we arrived). So that was good.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are so pleased to hear that you and enjoyed all that Thalassa has to offer and we look forward to welcoming you back. We have also amended the refuse collection information for future bookings - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "Your listing advertised open fire, not so."

Cold in dining room which is open to the front door. Curtains don't pull across in downstairs windows in dining room, kitchen and stairs. 2 mattrasses in downstairs bedroom uncomfortable, they must be very old as the buttons protrude. Radiator valves are all difficult to move, one snapped off - again very old. Had to call out maintenance guy as some radiators needed air bleeding. Could be cleaner in corners, behind chairs and beds. Overall, really need to improve standards. Good points, hot water, lovely views. Stayed 1st week of December

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by these issues. Your comments have been passed on to the team here at John Bray Cornish Holidays, we are in the process of replacing some elements on the radiators. With the open fire, we are not sure why this was an issue for you but we will look into it. We are glad that you still managed to enjoy your visit despite these issues and would love to welcome you back to North Cornwall in the future. - John Bray Cornish Holidays on behalf of the owner. • "We’ve holidayed in Daymer Bay for the last 30 years, but this was our first stay at Thalassa - and it was our best stay ever."

From the minute I saw the view through the door when I put the key in, I knew it was going to be fab! The house was so well equipped, with everything we needed and more! All clean and sparkly when we arrived. Ordered bedding from Atlantic Laundry, and it was all there waiting for us. We had a minor issue with the hot water, and contacted John Bray/Sykes, and 2 lovely men were there to help within 10 minutes. I really hope we can book Thalassa again next year, it’s spoilt me for going anywhere else now!

  • "We have been visiting Thalassa for seven years and join other friends also staying nearby for the same week."

Now Sykes have it seems made booking a free for all so we cannot visit on the same week next year. Do not understand why change a proven system, not impressed with the attitude of the manager who really ‘seemed to not care’. We, as so many others over many years love Thalassa. The house is wonderful, Sykes, you need to look after your booking clients.

  • "Another great holiday at Thallasa- well presented- tidy and clean throughout."

like that it has Sky tv and also the outside key safe . Obviously the owners take pride in their property and it shows. Would like John Bray to be more accessible as am not a fan of Sykes - whilst they are ok they don’t have the local knowledge also now no repeat bookings so difficult to ensure the same dates for the following year- bit of a lottery!!?? — great holiday and hopefully we will be back- thank you. • "Thalassa is a lovely property, and we've been many times before."

There were a couple of issues this time, with cleanliness and maintenance. The outside light at the front, the main light in the living room, and one of the lights in the sun room were not working. Perhaps the bulbs were blown and, in the past, there were spares in the cupboard, and I changed bulbs; this time, there were no spares, so I couldn't change them. The radiators in the upstairs bathroom, and in the small bedroom next to it, were cold. They were full of air, but I had no key to bleed them. I mentioned both these problems to a maintenance man in a John Bray van as we were leaving yesterday morning, so hopefully they were addressed in time for any new arrivals this week. The kitchen waste bin was stinking when we arrived. It had of course been emptied, by removing the liner bag, but there were dribbles and spills of food scraps and fluids in the bottom of the bin. The bin needs to be emptied by removing the liner bags but, in addition, probably once a week, it needs to be rinsed out with disinfectant. Surely this is a weekly job for the cleaning staff?? I rinsed it out myself last week. The downstairs shower flows very well but, the drain does not discharge the water as quickly as it flows in from the shower. The result is that the soapy water in the base rises inexorably during your shower, and you have to rush to finish before the level spills over and floods the room! The problem was not helped by the drain being partially blocked with soapy residue, sand, and hair; this should be cleaned weekly! I disassembled the shower trap and cleaned it out, which helped, but did not completely resolve the problem. In the past, these small details were more closely managed and contributed to a better overall experience at Thalassa.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback for Thalassa. We are very sorry to hear you experienced these problems during your stay. I can assure you the issues you spoke to our maintenance man about was reported to the office to be followed up and fixed. I have also spoken to the housekeeping team about your comments on the cleanliness of the bin and the shower drain. This will be bought up with the cleaners promptly to be rectified. We hope to invite you back to North Cornwall again soon. John Bray on behalf of the owner. Property Owner

  • "The most lovely house in the most lovely position and we had the most wonderful stay."

BUT, Sadly not very clean, eg. dirty tissues on book shelf in sitting room and in bedroom, flies under one bed. There were no duvets on arrival in January !, which was sorted out very quickly. The extractor above the oven was broken which couldn't be fixed. Getting through to Skyes seems to take ages with endless checks of who I was each time I was transferred when I complained was told it was data protection, if so, surely only once !? or 3 times in one phone call.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you had the most wonderful stay. We have passed on the cleaning issues on to housekeeping and we are very sorry about the cleanliness. Very convenient for walks along the coast path and nearby beaches. Well equipped with everything you could think of provided for. A double bed in the ground floor bedroom would be the icing on the cake, however, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thalassa and have booked again for next year.

  • "Yes, we discovered the fabulous spring garden at Prideaux Place, we were able to amble around avenues of wild garlic, newly planted white beams, delightful clusters of primroses and bluebells in a captivating landscape around the buildings that still held the ghosts of a bustling working farm."

The Rest a While garden cafe at Hawkers Cove serves the best coffee and unbelievable cakes making the beach walk at low tide even more enjoyable and served by the welcoming owners. The Lost Gardens of Heligan were a magical delight and well worth the drive across to St. Austell. The long walk around the estate was an added bonus for those who like to stride out on a misty rainy day with budding trees through ever changing areas of garden. The whole garden is run by helpful and happy staff willing to chat and enjoy the gardens with you. The food is good. Obviously lunch at the Rick Stein harbourside deli is a must, eating around the back on tables in the sun away from the wind.

About the location

DAYMER BAY

Polzeath 1.3 miles; Rock 2.3 miles.

Daymer Bay and the village of Trebetherick were both loved by Sir John Betjeman and are unquestionably special. With a huge appeal to both the young and not so young, Daymer Bay has recently been voted one of the best beaches in the world! St. Enodoc Church, once buried in the sand, is within comfortable walking distance of Daymer Bay and is the resting place of Sir John Betjeman. Daymer Bay holds great appeal for wind surfers, kite surfers and paddle boarders, with the gentle waves rolling up the estuary. There is enormous fun too for small children with buckets and spades and fishing in the rock pools. At low tide you can walk across the sand to the village of Rock to indulge in a spot of retail therapy or a bite to eat at one of the many delicious eateries, or catch the short ferry ride and explore the delights of Padstow. Up from the coast path as it runs from Daymer Bay is Highcliffe, nestling between Polzeath and Trebetherick, both of which boast a number of pubs, restaurants and village stores all offering a wide variety of fresh quality produce. The properties at Highcliffe have the advantage of being within easy reach of Daymer, Polzeath and Greenaway - Greenaway being the name given to the clifftop area, beach and small cove with rock pools overlooking the Atlantic beyond that lies between Daymer and Polzeath.
