  • "We very much enjoyed our stay at Through the Porthole."

Perfect location in the centre of Falmouth within short walking distance of shops, restaurants and Gillyvase Beach. The views from the house are gorgeous. Beds are very comfortable, good WiFi. The allocated parking space is very useful.

  • "Through the Porthole is located in a fantastic to location explore Falmouth and beyond."

The parking space was a good size and located behind the property. The property has a great view over the harbour and towards Flushing. The bedrooms are plenty big enough for our family of 5, and the kitchen is well stocked with utensil’s. The lounge is slightly smaller, but offset by the outside terrace. I would not hesitate to book again.

The house has all amenities you could need, convenient for walking into town, parking space is an amazing provision as parking anywhere in falmouth is a nightmare.

Nice house, centrally located and very comfortable. Only one minor criticism is the timer on the hall light meant it stayed on for too long. We would recommend adjusting to save energy.

  • "The property was ideal for our needs as 2 traveling fishermen needing a base for a week."

The property was very clean with plenty of facilities for cooking etc. The views of the harbour were great except for the rain every day lol. My only criticism would be the adverts for the property do not fully explain or show photos of the steep stairs which have to be used to access the kitchen and living room. These stairs are very steep and were a bit of a problem for me with bad knees but would be even more difficult for anyone who is disabled or has walking problems. The parking space was essential. The teabags, Milk, biscuits etc were a nice touch. On the whole a lovely property in an ideal location for fully mobile people. Thank you

Thank you for your feedback pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Through the Porthole. We have now added a note to the website regarding the stairs. Property Owner

So very central to everything Falmouth has to offer. - within minutes of shops, restaurants, pubs and boat trips/water taxis. Spotlessly clean house and very well presented. with everything we needed. Great views of the harbour. Handy to have a parking permit for an allocated space on the road below the house. We had a lovely comfortable week.

  • "The property is great."

It is has clean modern decoration. All the facilities required to house a family for as long as required. The views from 2 of the bedrooms are amazing! Initially we were a bit worried that the property would be quiet small looking at the photos. But it is a very good size. Our only feedback for improvement would be for the 2 sofas within the living space to bit more comfy. They are more style over comfort. Non the less we made it work. Harriet who managed the property had great communication with us from way before our trip. Giving us recommendation on what to do as there was a special event on in Falmouth the first weekend of our stay. And even allowed us to enter the property way before the 4pm check in as the property had been vacant from the previous day. The price was very good value!

  • "Lovely quiet house that was well equipped, in great central location close to all amenities."

Fab views. Interior of property was clean and modern. Being picky two things to improve stay are :- 1. Patio/outside balcony needs cleaning and weeding 2. Fridge door compartment broken which meant couldn't stand bottles up in fridge without removing a shelf which cut down on cold storage.

Thank you for your feedback and letting us know about these two points, we have spoken with the owner who has confirmed a new fridge has now been purchased. In terms of the garden, due to the weather and non stop rain, this area has not been totally spruced up yet. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you back soon. Property Owner

  • "The views from all the windows at the rear of the property are exceptional and to die for."

There is no parking outside the property but the owners have taken out a parking permit for a space in the road below which was much appreciated. The property was well equipped, comfortable, and clean with the exception of the plinth on the wardrobe in the ground floor bedroom which had not seen a duster for some time. There is also an Alexa in the lounge which we found very useful in the evening. The location is easy for getting in and out of Falmouth and good restaurants and pubs are easily within reach. However, be aware that there are steep slopes and steps to and from the centre of the town and its facilities if you have mobility issues. This property was booked by us as there was a ground floor bedroom with an ensuite and a walk in shower. This led us to believe it would be suitable for my friend who has mobility issues. The open plan kitchen, diner and lounge are on the lower floor and have been converted from a cellar. As such there are some ten or twelve steep narrow steps without a proper handrail to reach the lower floor. The beautiful full length windows in the rear facing bedrooms give excellent views but the small windows at the very top are not easily reached if you have height or mobility issues. There are no hair dryers and the rear facing bedroom on the first floor does not have a socket within reach to use the mirror on the wall. The hospitality pack was very poor and not up to the standards of previous Sykes cottages we have rented. There were only tea and biscuits with a pint of milk in the fridge and no flowers. Some suggestions for the owners which they may wish to consider would be a grab rail at the front door as one of the steps is deep. Also grab rails and a full shower length bath mat in the walk in shower and waste bins in the bedrooms. We enjoyed our week in the property and would not hesitate at all to recommend it to people once they are aware of the issues mentioned above.

Exceptionally clean. Bigger than it looks online with lovely views. Issue we had on first day was that the bin in the garden hadn’t been emptied. Had to leave our bagged rubbish in garden and left this on note for the cleaner. The pillows are a little bit hard but appreciate it is hard to please every guest. As a cleaner of holiday lodges myself, appreciate the hard work of the cleaner so left a tip for them. We had a lovely holiday Thank you

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the lovely views that ‘Through The Porthole’ has to offer. Apologies for the bin issue as we have recently changed our bin collection company and this issue should now be resolved with the new system we have put into place. All of our pillows are medium firmness, and we unfortunately don't have the storage space to offer different options. Property Owner

  • "Overall we were all very pleased with the property and thought it was very nice."

There re a slight few things however this is me being picky and I’m sure others wouldn’t be. I do believe that the write up needs to describe better the steep stairs down to the living room and kitchen. Although it didn’t cause major issues for us my mums little dog struggled with them so we were having to pick him up and carry him a lot. Overall the property was clean but there were parts where you can tell there hasn’t been any attention to detail. Dead insects in the bathroom and on the windowsill, which to be fair at this time of year is to be expected although if the property is cleaned the day of checking in I’m not sure how it could happen. There were areas that hadn’t been vacced up properly which we had to then do. Skirting boards with dust all over them which I cleaned myself. Washing machine smelt and hadn’t been cleaned around the rim. Just little things that would make the stay more comfortable. The beds were really comfy and had a great nights sleep and the views over the harbour were fantastic. Great position as well for exploring Falmouth and the surrounding areas.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. The cleanliness mentioned seems to be an isolated issue, nevertheless, we have passed this onto our cleaning company and will be sorted during the next changeover. We have also completed an additional cleaning cycle on the washing machine as the smell could just be down to it not being used for long periods at a time. Property Owner

Everything was absolutely spotless when we arrived and the house is really well equipped with everything we needed as a "home from home". I loved the fact that its really modern (i'm going to miss the en-suite walk in shower!) and has been decorated very tastefully. The property is in a really central location - easily walkable to the centre of town (for shops, restaurants and ferries) the station and Gyllyngvase Beach - and there's a lovely pub across the road in case you don't fancy venturing too far. Location wise it is also perfect for getting out and about around Cornwall. During our stay we went to Mevagissey, Porthtowan, St. Ives, Cadgwith Cove and Helford Passage by car - and St Mawes and Trelissick by ferry from Falmouth. Overall we had a fabulous holiday - thank you!

  • "Below are the details from the webpage."

I have a couple of issues. The first sentence is not correct, you head not only DOWNSTAIRS to the open plan living area, you also head down STEEP stairs. The listing states ground floor bedroom, which would perhaps encourage older people or those with disability, but there is no mention of the steep and narrow stairs to reach the lower ground floor. We had to carry our aged dog up and down them. Also, the accommodation would sleep 5 adults, but there are sofas for 4 realistically. It would be a tight squeeze for 5 adults. Other than that the property was very clean and well appointed, apart from lacking some basic kitchen items, (we left a note for housekeeping) including a large saucepan - again we couldn't have cooked pasta for example for 5 adults without using two small saucepans. Enter the property into a spacious hallway, with a handy coat rack to hang your coats and motion sensor lighting, head to the open-plan living area, with a newly-fitted kitchen, housing a range of integrated amenities, including a dishwasher, microwave, fridge, freezer and washer/dryer.Prepare delicious home-cooked meals, which can be enjoyed by the whole group at the lovely oak dining table, before retiring to the sitting room to relax on one of the sofas, admiring the incredible harbour views on offer, or enjoying watching the Smart TV.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, we have taken your comments on board. We will consider the seating in the living area and will aim to make some adjustments. Regarding the kitchen utensils, we will ensure a full inventory is done, with the addition of some extra-large pots and pans over the next week. Property Owner

Great quality bedding and beds however please review your sofas although looking nice incredibly uncomfortable to the point we both have aching backs and towards the end tried to spend as little time possible there due to dreading the thought of sitting on them. I did also text to say there were rats on a few of the days we saw them come from neighbours wall to the right walk along the wooden bar at the back, which we noticed was heavily covered with bird poo and then went into neighbour’s garden on the left. Not 100% what you could do but as you can appreciate we didn’t sit in the garden for the rest of the holiday which was a shame

Prior to visit we were a bit concerned about there being a pub nearby but not only was there no noise from them, they are the friendliest team and serve great food which just adds to a relaxing week. We must mention that there was an issue with the house when we arrived and we could not have had a quicker or more helpful response from the owners local representative who arrived at the property within minutes of us contacting them. The central location was great and was a 5 minute walk to a relative of ours who is studying at Falmouth Uni. The property was furnished to a very high standard and the views to the harbour and dockyard were wonderful even in October. There was plenty to do nearby with lots of shops , bars and restaurants. The only thing to be aware of is the property is high up, so steep inclines are everywhere which for the less mobile could be a problem.
