Comfortable, clean and cosy. In a good location for several tourist attractions and areas.

  • "Lovely little cottage, the photos don't do it justice."

We had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay very much. The drive down single track roads to get there was a bit nerve-wracking when you met another vehicle, but mercifully it was pretty quiet, so ok really.

  • "Badgers Sett was exactly as advertised, a comfortable barn conversion cottage with all possible amenities."

Situated on a working farm, it was set in gorgeous moorland countryside and was a welcome peaceful retreat from the busy beaches we visited. The WiFi was good, an essential requirement for my 16 year old daughter, the water supply is from a borehole which, as described in the welcome pack, was some of the best I’ve tasted. The water did have lower water pressure than I’m used to but there was always hot water for showers and washing up without having to put the immersion heater on. I used the shared laundry as we were on the beach every day and swimming costumes and towels needed washing and drying - the tumble dryer is awesome and dried towels within 45 minutes!! Being on a working farm you will hear the farm animals …. The chickens wake early but can only really be heard from the single room at the back of the property. However, as compensation, you are also treated to seeing birds of prey, and as we visited during August, various nesting birds and baby rabbits. Google maps get you straight to the property if you enter ‘Helman Tor Cottages’ and it’s in very easy access to the Eden Project and both the north and south Cornish coasts. Jenny, the cottage host, was lovely and accessible if needed. We had a great time and will definitely look to stay here again the next time we are in Cornwall.

The same with sons wooden bed in single room. Possible get some road mirrors or some sort of entry and exit system so can tell if car coming down track to accommodation as big cars struggle to reverse down it. Hot water was great no issues came out hot straight away even managed baths as well as showers. Nice quiet location away from everything.

Very narrow Cornish lanes which were a bit of a concern at first (because our car can be temperamental). Lovely welcome and cottage set in quiet farm setting. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Great location for visiting both north and south coasts. Lots of pleasant walks inc Camel Trail. Would definitely recommend to others. Thank You

  • "Shower very disappointing no power just a trickle, this has been mentioned on previous reviews, furniture, bed was basic and mattress very soft, living quarters no table or chairs for eating just a breakfast bar which was very uncomfortable as the height was too high and stools were very high with no backs felt as if we were standing to eat, felt like a parrot on a perch, there was no hairdryer but this was rectified."

Owners were hidden away with no contact good or bad left to daughter who said I only work here for my parents I have no say in running the cottages which we felt shut down.

If they had looked at the Photos before booking they would have seen that there is only a breakfast bar because the cottage has no room for a dining table! they spent most of their time in the garden because the weather was good, In fact they at one point they told our daughter the they would like to stay till the end of the week and tried to book through us and she told them to contact your selves to extend their booking. Mr kept telling Jenny that they were enjoying the holiday very much. She was finding it very difficult because she was servicing the other cottages for other visitors due in and he kept talking to her making it difficult to do her job!! Property Owner

The instructions on how to get to the cottage were accurate and must be followed as it is rather difficult to find without them. The cottage had everything you could require, the only slight issue was the double bed as it does creak a lot. With that aside we would recommend this as a base and are looking to book again for next year.

It was very clean and had all the amenities you would need (such as cooking items and washing up items). Make sure you use the very accurate directions that are sent to you. We would definitely recommend this place. One thing to note is that the shower doesn’t come out very fast, the owners acknowledge this and explain why. We managed but this might be an issue to some people.

  • "Very dirty on arrival, even though arrival time was out back for DEEP CLEAN!"

!! Large black patch of rising damp, smelt of must and damp, cups and plates dirty, had to wash them all!! Good job me and my husband like a cuddle because the mattress was so bad we kept meeting in the middle, no bedding or towels as promised but that was the fault of Sykes for not forwarding on owners new arrangement and the owner did eventually get us bedding and towels, WiFi rubbish and considering there was only one other family there, it was useless, the water from the shower was trickling out, I understand that it comes from a bore hole but they fail to tell you that until you arrive!!! We left after 3 days cos of the damp, even buying candles and febreeze we could still smell the damp..... not impressed at all, who is looking at these cottages and making sure they are fit to use as a holiday let.... especially at £996 for the pleasure!!!!! Very disappointed!!! Have put in a complaint so it doesn’t happen to someone else, thank goodness neither of us had asthma!!!!

  • "Finding the place was a tad tricky, I suggest a better full description on how to find it should be sent to any would be renter ."

All in all the place was quiet and remote, with good views ,a good thing! However the experience could have been so much better with a few small considerations. Ok the wifi was not working 75% of the time and it wasn’t for the owners fault ,not massive for us but still not as advertised . The eating of meals was awkward due to the breakfast bar height and the stools provided were very uncomfortable and precarious, especially for elderly! We managed but again not ideal for dinner time. Also the bathroom smelled on occasion akin to drainage problems, needs attention, coming from overflow on bath I think. The Velux windows were tricky to open and close, the correct pole would work better . One last groan! The Helmand tor is a beautiful spot only a very short distance from the farm house and cottages but the foot path is a mile and a half walk! Surely a permissive path could be arranged by the owner! It would really make all the difference for walks locally. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay in badgers what’s it.

  • "Very nice cottage, as described."

Pleasantly situated in a very rural location down long winding narrow roads. Quiet and peaceful. Don't be put off by the bore-hole water - it tastes beautiful. Caroline and Kevin are friendly and helpful and they supply lots of information, including very good directions to the property. Wifi is slow but perfectly adequate for surfing. Plenty of hot water and heating, but don't expect a power shower. Our only negative comment is that the laundry room could do with some attention.

We were coming down as we are looking to relocate to Cornwall and was veiwing properties in the area. The cheapest travelodge I found was in Okehampton, on the A30 and was rather dreary, one room "apartment" and at £250 did not even include wifi. To my surprise, we found badgers set, which was a lovely two bed barn conversion, with own kitchen so we could cook our own food, beautiful surroundings, and very tranquil. And still cheaper than a travelodge on a main road.

  • "Sykes directions were totally inadequate!"

We would NEVER have found Badgers Sett if Mr Wilkinson had not E Mailed us detailed directions! HOT WATER was hard to achieve and impossible in the shower. WiFi reception was very poor. As we had booked the holiday for my wifes 80 th Birthday ,the cottage did not meet expectations. Comments in the visitors book showed that these problems are ongoing and have not been addressed! This experience will make us wary of using Sykes again .We holiday very regularly.

  • "Met expectations - just!"

Property is difficult to find - there are only property names on one side of the lane which cannot be seen when approaching from the opposite direction. The property is 4 miles from the village and not as described. It is approached by a long, narrow and sometimes uneven lane but when finally arriving at Badgers Sett we were pleasantly surprised to find a very well equipped cottage. However, we were disappointed that the wifi was so poor!! The shower was also disappointing as it was very weak and not very hot. Unfortunately all the cottages had a power cut one evening (but the farmhouse was not affected). We were told that the power should be back by 9.30pm but that we might lose our water supply!! Power was restored but it would have been useful to have a torch in the property for such emergencies! We did have a lovely holiday in Cornwall and the cottage is located within easy distance of many of Cornwalls favourite tourist attractions.

When we arrived there was milk in the fridge and plenty of tea & coffee to make a welcome drink after a long drive from Cambridgeshire. Badgers Sett is really clean, comfortable, well equipped and is set in lovely surroundings. I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting an "away from it all" break.
