  • "Cottage was fine for 2 of us but would have been cramped for 4."

Its position was good as we could walk the parts of the coastal path we wanted. The owners have spent time and money on improvements bathroom particularly was well done. Other cottages were very close, there are 7 in the courtyard, so not very private.

The place was immaculate and very homely. The little touches were very thoughtful and it was literally a home away from home. My girls (3) ask every day “when are we going to our holiday home!” Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will definitely be booking again.

We were a bit apprehensive about the Aga soon got the hang of it and really liked it.The only problem we had was keeping our dog in the kitchen at night as there is no gate to the stairs but a kitchen chair across the bottom of the stairs fixed this. Our 9 year old granddaughter loved her room and the books and games. The weather was rough paths very muddy and some roads flooded and impassable but we had a great week.

  • "A well provided, comfortable and characterful cottage in a good location for walking and scenery, weather permitting (which it wasn't)!"

! Plenty of attractions within reasonable travelling distance. The cottage is among other holiday accommodation but also others which with permanent residents which gave it a nice feel. Typical narrow Cornish lanes - grateful adjoining camping and caravan site wasn't open! Kitchen lovely and warm with Aga stove permanently on, storage heaters less effective elsewhere. Even so, thoroughly recommend No. 4!

  • "A cosy comfortable cottage which suited us well."

Would recomend especially for walkers. Aga cooker kept the temperature just right. Sitting room comfort for afternoon resting and evening relaxing. Home from home really quickly. Maybe caution with under age 5 children. Staircase means one would have to keep an eye on them. If you are seeking a cosy backwater retreat, Great. The local shop and chippy are reasonably close obliging, welcoming and cater well. A refreshing, relaxing break and pretty ideal for touring from.

  • "We had a wonderfull stay in the cottage."

It was spotless clean, everything we needed, special extras like tea, lovely coffee and biscuits, specially folded towels. The aga stove was a great addition and we made full use of it especially as the weather was quite cold for August. The cottage is within walking distance to the coastal footpath with a lovely walk from there to 2 beautifull beaches and about 15 minutes walk down to the lovely beach and small town of Goran Haven. The location is ideal and is quiet, can hear no cars at night, only the nightsounds. We loved it!!

  • "We have stayed at over a dozen Sykes cottages over the years and 4 Mowhay Cottages was by far the nicest!"

It was spotlessly clean and it had everything we needed and even some things we didn't know we needed! The Aga was lovely and kept the house so warm during a couple of very wet and windy days. We appreciated having a washer and a dryer and wood/kindling for the fire. On our first day there the shower broke but, even though it was a Saturday, it was replaced while we were out that day! Fabulous service! There's plenty of parking by the cottage and the neighbours we met were all very friendly. Such a peaceful community. The location is perfect for the most beautiful beaches....check out Hemmick beach if you are brave enough to drive along the very narrow road. This secluded beach is breathtaking. Of course Gorran Haven harbour is wonderful (great fish and chips) and Mevagissy and Charlestown (fish and chips on the harbour are amazing!) are both lovely too. Caerhays and Carylon beaches were two of our favourites and all dog friendly which our terrier Fynn enjoyed. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are stunning and we can highly recommend the Sunday roast they serve. The farm shop there is wonderful too....try the apricot flapjacks if you're lucky enough to catch them while they are in stock. Very popular and sell quickly! We had such a wonderful week in Cornwall and we can't praise the cottage highly enough. Thank you x

The cottage was well equipped. It was very quiet, there were plenty of opportunities to walk from there and the coastal path was easy to access. Parking was easy and the internet worked throughout our stay. We used the Aga several times for basic meals. All in all coupled with the 7 days of beautiful weather it was a great week for us and our Yorkshire Terrier. Thank you

Ideally set up for being dog friendly. Fully equipped and really comfortable. The only fear was that we wouldn't be able to work the Agar cooker, but it was fine. Altogether great experience and only wish we could have stayed longer

  • "The accommodation is lovely and very cottagey but the only means of cooking is on an Aga which may be a problem for some people but shouldn’t be!"

We actually thoroughly enjoyed this experience so it didn’t bother us and relished the heat it gave out when we arrived back wet from walking out in the rain. The nearest pub is a drive away so we ate in every night bar one. The nearest small grocery shop is a 20 minute walk down the hill to Gorran Haven or a drive to St Austell if you want a bigger supermarket.

  • "I really liked the layout and spaciousness of the cottage, and the farm feel of the surrounds."

Good position for our walks. The only negative for us was the Aga. We are both keen cooks and would have been much happier with a conventional modern cooker which would also have left more storage space for food, as there was hardly any.

As a family group of three generations we appreciated the toys, games and children's books. There was an excellent collection of books on local places of interest and wildlife. We used the maps to find the three local beaches and round the headland. Here we saw wild Dartmoor ponies grazing . The beaches are beautiful, clean and very family friendly. We enjoyed days out at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project and various National Trust properties. We had such a great time the whole family want to go again.

It's located in a quiet countryside and is 15 min walk from Gorran Haven were there is a great fish and chips shop and where a lovely coastal path starts. Everything in the cottage is of good quality (matresses, bedding, towels, kitchen utensils, etc) and it feels like a family home. To get to the cottage you'll need to drive on a single track road for a while but it adds to the Cornish country experience. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage to others.

The property

Gorran Haven 1.5 miles.

Perfectly located for family beach holidays with a choice of three within walking distance, this charming character cottage is located only a half a mile along the adjoining footpath to the pretty fishing village of Gorran Haven, 3.5 miles from Mevagissey.

All the family will immediately feel at home on entering this characterful cottage.

Passing through the enclosed front garden you enter onto the first floor.

There are three bedrooms offering a double, a double zip-link bedroom and a single all on the first floor along with the bathroom.

On the ground floor are the cosy sitting room with open fire for the cooler evenings and the kitchen/diner with the feature being the warming AGA.

A separate entrance from the shared courtyard garden provides direct access to the ground floor making it ideal for dog walkers.

Gorran Haven is an unspoilt fishing village nestled around a secluded cove which remains much the same as in years gone by.

The two sandy beaches here offer some of the safest swimming in Cornwall as well as giving you the opportunity to try kayaking with kayaks being available to hire.

With dogs allowed on the beach (on leads between Easter and September, subject to bylaws) this really is the perfect family beach.

After a day on the beach a small selection of cafés, restaurants, a pub and a renowned fish and chip shop offer a great choice of refreshments before wandering back to the cottage.

A great location for family holidays all year round.

About the location

GORRAN HAVEN

Mevagissey 3 miles.

Once a crab fishing village, Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall is ideally placed to explore the many beaches and coves in the area. Gorran Haven has a small sandy beach set behind a traditional sea wall, connecting with the longer Great Perhaver beach at low tide and is popular with families. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is readily accessible from the South West Coast Path that passes through Gorran Haven. Within walking distance are a number of more isolated beaches and the 370 feet high Dodman Point, rising above Gorran, which is thought to be one of Cornwall’s most dramatic headlands, and the cause of many a shipwreck. From its gorse-covered heights there are views across Veryan Bay to the west and Vault Beach to the east. Alternatively, you may wish to walk the coastal path to the harbour village of Mevagissey. Near Gorran Haven, in a beautiful setting of woodland, stream and pasture, is Caerhays Castle, an informal 60-acre garden on the coast near Porthluney Cove. Nearby attractions are the wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project, Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and the cathedral town of Truro, with an excellent range of quality shopping and dining.
