  • "We have visited Gorran Haven for many years and this is simply the best property we have stayed in."

It is clean, spacious and very well equipped (we like to cook). The beds are extremely comfortable and the seating area and dining area were perfect for our family group of six. The house is situated perfectly with a short walk to the beach. There was milk in the fridge and a cream tea had been left for us too…a thoughtful touch. We would love to come back!

So pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Garden House and we very much look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kate (Owner) Property Owner

  • "A lovely house, modern, clean and well furnished, we enjoyed our stay there."

A little far from the beach with young children. Disappointed that ( for a VERY expensive rent), only 3 toilet rolls were provided for 6 people in the house for a week. Cakebreads had no supply…. So we were stuck! Little cleaning materials/ cloths to keep the house clean, …as requested! We have rented homes yearly, often bringing, but never required, to use toilet rolls/ kitchen cleaning material etc …. 2 sachets of dishwasher/ washing tablets seemed rather mean?! However, a lovely property.

  • "Loved the spaciousness and suitability for multigenerational family."

Kitchen etc very well equipped. Decked area great for alfresco dining. Some small carpet and furniture stains. Excessive and continuous local barking dogs intrusive. Persistently parked and returning laden rubbish truck usually left in front of property (operating a rubbish disposal business) blocking the open view to village green and unsightly builders rubbish.

Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased to hear you loved your stay at Garden House. We are sorry to hear you were disturbed by barking dogs but as you must appreciate this is not within our control. The road outside the house is a public highway so we have no control over who parks outside unfortunately. We are not aware of anyone local to Garden House who runs a rubbish disposal business so hopefully this was a one off. Property Owner

  • "Gorran Haven is an unspoilt seaside village and Garden House ideally situated within a short walk of the amenities (a well-stocked Post Office/shop, cafe, ice-creams and fish and chips) and seaside."

It offers spacious open-plan living, a small private garden with a lovely view of the hillside and very comfortable, peaceful bedrooms. Everything we needed was provided and, thanks to the sunny weather, we made the most of the nearby sheltered sandy beach, cliff walks and local sights, especially Mevagissey, Caerhays and wonderful scenic adjacent cliff-top walks. The local people were very friendly and we felt part of the community during our week's stay there. It is definitely somewhere we would look forward to returning to before long. We would highly recommend it to any prospective holiday-makers!

Thank you so much for your feedback which is always helpful to receive. We're pleased to hear that you had a lovely stay and that the weather was kind to you. We very look much forward to welcoming you back to Garden House in the future. Kate, Owner Property Owner

Further to walk from the beach than we imagined and hill to climb home, so used the car more than intended. Lovely outdoor space for eating or sunbathing. Would recommend. en forget the opportunity to open bifold doors but

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your recent stay at Garden House. There is usually a good supply of yellow bags left in the utility room and I apologise if this was not the case when you arrived. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Thanks again, Kate (Owner) Property Owner

  • "Spot on! Had a lovely week at Garden House with husband, 3 children & our dog."

House is beautifully presented, loved everything about it. Even better in person than the photos suggest. Super spacious for a holiday home, really well equipped. Didn’t do much cooking as we tend to be out and about on hols but literally could have made a roast, baked etc! Home from home. We had all weathers during our stay but still managed some time in the lovely garden area - what a sun trap! Setting is idyllic - could be time of year we chose our trip but Gorran Haven is quiet, just what we like. The beach is gorgeous & just 5 mins walk away. We haven’t been to Cornwall for about 15 years as it’s a trek from North Wales so we were out showing the kids as many areas as possible. However, we could easily have chilled in the house for the week we loved it so much. Thanks Sykes for another fab holiday.

  • "Unfortunately we didn’t have a great stay."

There is a awful banging noise in the main bedroom which has been mentioned in reviews before, but hasn’t been fixed. The bathroom door handle is broken, there was a pile of maybe six or seven bags of rubbish on the drive all week. I gave the owner opportunity to discuss but they took a long time to respond and basically said that they didn’t want the feedback. Wouldn’t recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback. Had you made us aware of these issues at the time of your stay, we would, of course, have done our best to rectify them. We do welcome reviews from all of our guests and take any comments on board. The banging noise was mentioned back in April, when we had very high winds, and it was checked out but we could not establish the cause. The bathroom door handle will be checked and repaired. Unfortunately the company who collects the rubbish and recycling had an unforeseen issue and could not collect the waste as usual on changeover. Had we been aware of this we could have arranged for someone to come and collect the waste. Property Owner

Thank you for providing your feedback. Had we been made aware of the cleanliness issues at the start of your stay, we could have arranged for the housekeeper to address the issues. We had a great holiday, thankyou, despite the weather which was looking beautiful as we were leaving :( !!

  • "We very much enjoyed Garden House with it's excellent location for Gorran Haven beaches and coast path walks."

The open plan layout works well and in good weather, the access to the deck area and seating adds even more space to the ground floor. The kitchen has all the equipment needed with the possible exception of a tea strainer... Upstairs, the bedrooms are comfortable with a generous master bedroom and en-suite. You may need to take a look at the shower door in the family bathroom as it doesn't seal properly at the bottom when closed so may be causing some dampness on the bathroom floor.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed the Garden House and the surrounding location. The shower door has been checked. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Garden House and that the weather was kind to you. We are not sure why there were no bin liners available as our housekeeper usually ensures that a plentiful supply are left for the use of guests. Thank you to the owners for the welcome gifts. However there was a few things that we would like to let you know needed seeing too. In the main bedroom when the wind blew there was an awful noise in the left hand corner of the roof as you were laying in bed. It wasn’t anything loose outside as we looked. It was inside the roof space a rattling which kept us awake at night. The shower in the main bathroom leaked and the door handle was broken The downstairs cloakroom lock was broken The decking area which was the main seating area was very dirty and slippery in places, (obviously not been cleaned this season) and with a child with us he was unable to play out there alone. The dishwasher was blocked and my husband had to clean it out as it was not washing properly.

Thank you for your feedback and letting us know about these points, we will look into these. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you back again soon. Property Owner

The town of Gorran Haven is lovely and the local shop is very handy. We had a pleasant stay at the house but it is definitely lacking in some of the basics. We ended up having to buy things like bin bags, washing up liquid and sponges as they weren’t stocked. The coffee machines are also pointless as there are no pods to fit in unless you buy your own. Not big things but not what is implied in the description of the house. We would probably bear this in mind if we were thinking of returning as the prices do not reflect a less than basic house. It was clean and did the job but would think again before booking for our stay next year.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We provide all guests with a welcome pack of household and cleaning essentials which should be enough for the first couple of days. However as Garden House is a self catering property we do not provide any more than this. We also provide a Cornish cream tea to welcome our guests which we hope you enjoyed on your arrival at the house. We do hope that you choose to stay with us again. Property Owner

  • "The property was lovely."

Only points I would make are that the property seemed to be newly refurbished or new to the holiday rental scene as a few little things were missing (even the wi-fi password written down on the welcome book/guide was wrong, I had to get the password from the router). Firstly the living room area has excellent folding patio doors but they provide very little privacy as they don't have any curtains/blinds. At times it felt a little uncomfortable when it was dark outside and you had the lights on inside. Secondly the property had very little cleaning facilities/products such as cleaning spray, hand wash/soap, washing up liquid etc... We had a young baby and a dog with us so keeping things clean became difficult and we ended up going out to buy some cleaning products. Lastly we only got 3 rolls of toilet roll for 1 weeks stay and as the property can sleep up to 6 people it's unlikely to last 2 days. Again we went out and bought some more toilet roll within the first 2 days. Overall the property was excellent and would definitely recommend to anyone and we would be happy to stay here again also.

About the location

GORRAN HAVEN

Mevagissey 3 miles.

Once a crab fishing village, Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall is ideally placed to explore the many beaches and coves in the area. Gorran Haven has a small sandy beach set behind a traditional sea wall, connecting with the longer Great Perhaver beach at low tide and is popular with families. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is readily accessible from the South West Coast Path that passes through Gorran Haven. Within walking distance are a number of more isolated beaches and the 370 feet high Dodman Point, rising above Gorran, which is thought to be one of Cornwall’s most dramatic headlands, and the cause of many a shipwreck. From its gorse-covered heights there are views across Veryan Bay to the west and Vault Beach to the east. Alternatively, you may wish to walk the coastal path to the harbour village of Mevagissey. Near Gorran Haven, in a beautiful setting of woodland, stream and pasture, is Caerhays Castle, an informal 60-acre garden on the coast near Porthluney Cove. Nearby attractions are the wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project, Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and the cathedral town of Truro, with an excellent range of quality shopping and dining.
