  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Garden house!"

It was incredible. The house was amazing, so clean and bright. We felt really lucky to have a holiday there. Everything has been thought of, lovely touches everywhere to make your holiday the best it could be. Comfy beds, lovely decor, amazing location. We actually didn’t want to leave. Thank you so much to the owners, your lovely house really made a wonderful holiday for us.

  • "Spot on! Had a lovely week at Garden House with husband, 3 children & our dog."

House is beautifully presented, loved everything about it. Even better in person than the photos suggest. Super spacious for a holiday home, really well equipped. Didn’t do much cooking as we tend to be out and about on hols but literally could have made a roast, baked etc! Home from home. We had all weathers during our stay but still managed some time in the lovely garden area - what a sun trap! Setting is idyllic - could be time of year we chose our trip but Gorran Haven is quiet, just what we like. The beach is gorgeous & just 5 mins walk away. We haven’t been to Cornwall for about 15 years as it’s a trek from North Wales so we were out showing the kids as many areas as possible. However, we could easily have chilled in the house for the week we loved it so much. Thanks Sykes for another fab holiday.

  • "Unfortunately we didn’t have a great stay."

There is a awful banging noise in the main bedroom which has been mentioned in reviews before, but hasn’t been fixed. The bathroom door handle is broken, there was a pile of maybe six or seven bags of rubbish on the drive all week. I gave the owner opportunity to discuss but they took a long time to respond and basically said that they didn’t want the feedback. Wouldn’t recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback. Had you made us aware of these issues at the time of your stay, we would, of course, have done our best to rectify them. We do welcome reviews from all of our guests and take any comments on board. The banging noise was mentioned back in April, when we had very high winds, and it was checked out but we could not establish the cause. The bathroom door handle will be checked and repaired. Unfortunately the company who collects the rubbish and recycling had an unforeseen issue and could not collect the waste as usual on changeover. Had we been aware of this we could have arranged for someone to come and collect the waste. Property Owner

! Three years on and the property is STILL LEAKING DHOWRS FLOODING BATHROOM and ENSUITE!!! I have videos showing problem I have told Sykes yet you seem not interested. Cleaner let urine n excrement marks in toilet, crumbs on worktop, sand gritty floor, decking furniture stacked up blocking steps after previoys dog owner stayed. Vape canister on floor and toilet roll under bed. Shabby n not good enough!

Thank you for providing your feedback. Had we been made aware of the cleanliness issues at the start of your stay, we could have arranged for the housekeeper to address the issues. The showers have been checked and we cannot find any sign of them leaking. Fresh towels were delivered to the property, following the flooding of the bathroom. We are sorry that you had to cut your stay short due to an emergency back home. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, clean, spacious and really comfy beds."

Lots of lovely extra touches such as a really good selection of board games, play station and some lovely cookery books to read! No complaints at all... just one very little suggestion, an oven glove would be quite useful as had to use the teatowels to get hot dishes out of the oven! We had a great holiday, thankyou, despite the weather which was looking beautiful as we were leaving :( !!

We're delighted to hear your enjoyed your stay at Garden House. There is a pair of silicone oven gloves which are usually kept in the cupboard underneath the double oven. We apologise if these were not there on this occasion. We hope you choose to stay with us again sometime in the future. Regards, Kate, Property Owner Property Owner

  • "We very much enjoyed Garden House with it's excellent location for Gorran Haven beaches and coast path walks."

The open plan layout works well and in good weather, the access to the deck area and seating adds even more space to the ground floor. The kitchen has all the equipment needed with the possible exception of a tea strainer... Upstairs, the bedrooms are comfortable with a generous master bedroom and en-suite. You may need to take a look at the shower door in the family bathroom as it doesn't seal properly at the bottom when closed so may be causing some dampness on the bathroom floor.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed the Garden House and the surrounding location. The shower door has been checked. We do hope that we might be able to welcome you back to the Garden House again, sometime in the near future. Property Owner

It is a lovely and very spacious house the garden area sensibly laid out for ease of maintenance Everything was very well presented we did not find any bin liners and were unsure about disposal arrangements but perhaps we did not read everything thoroughly Lovely walks down to the beach and a very peaceful village with some nice facilities really nothing to complain about Oh one thing we did struggle a bit with the keysafe personally I would replace that with an easier to operate one Many thanks we had a lovely stay and we’re blessed with fine weather

We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Garden House and that the weather was kind to you. We are not sure why there were no bin liners available as our housekeeper usually ensures that a plentiful supply are left for the use of guests. For future reference there is a sign on the side of the fridge which details all rubbish/recycling information. We will take a look at the key safe. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay at the property, which is very well appointed."

Thank you to the owners for the welcome gifts. However there was a few things that we would like to let you know needed seeing too. In the main bedroom when the wind blew there was an awful noise in the left hand corner of the roof as you were laying in bed. It wasn’t anything loose outside as we looked. It was inside the roof space a rattling which kept us awake at night. The shower in the main bathroom leaked and the door handle was broken The downstairs cloakroom lock was broken The decking area which was the main seating area was very dirty and slippery in places, (obviously not been cleaned this season) and with a child with us he was unable to play out there alone. The dishwasher was blocked and my husband had to clean it out as it was not washing properly.

Thank you for your feedback and letting us know about these points, we will look into these. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you back again soon. Property Owner

  • "The property was as described, modern, comfortable and a very pleasant place to spend a week's holiday That said a few things need fixing 1) The Roman blinds need fixing ,they do not operate easily, I think some of the strings are broken 2) The keys for the bi-fold doors (which are wonderful) have no marks on them to say which key is for which door 3) Could we suggest some lighting, solar or otherwise on the outside decking, it would be a great addition to an already great space."

    4) Some information on how to operate the TV, DVD player, the Sound Box, the Cooker and the WI-FI All that aside ,once we found out how to work "the stuff" we had a wonderful time and would advise anyone to come and stay at the Garden House. -- we will be back -- thank you for a lovely holiday --- PS You even arranged a week of great weather

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Garden House and had the bonus of good weather! We will remedy the issue with the Roman blinds and also arrange labels for the keys. For future reference the instruction booklets for equipment in the house are kept in the taller cupboard in the dining area. We look forward to welcoming you back. Everything you need for a self catering holiday. Quiet location with easy access to beach and coastal walks. Need to be aware that opening days and times of the few local facilities that there are can be subject to change at short notice.Be prepared to do a lot of driving if you want meals out or to do some shopping.

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay at Garden House. We appreciate that Gorran Haven is indeed a little bit remote but we feel that adds to it's unspoilt charm. If you would like to visit again please note that there are supermarkets in Truro and St Austell that will deliver groceries to the house. The Barley Sheaf in Gorran, which is a 10 minute walk away, has recently been taken over and serves exceptional food - highly recommended. Property Owner

After living in it, we found the walk in shower, in the main bedroom, had no area to put shower gel, etc. The new tv had very bad interference and we had to only use Netflix. We found childrens toys/crayons under and in the sofa, which had some bad staining. Underneath the floor mat by the bifold windows, had not been cleaned. Also, food residue in chairs around dining table. We loved the position of the house, close to beach and beautiful walks, although some of the lanes are very narrow. This was mentioned on the details of house. Recommendations in house book was spot on.

The weather was extremely temperamental but as the house was so comfortable, we didn't mind staying in at all! There were lots of games, books and DVDs available to entertain and the living area and bedrooms were like a home away from home. When the weather did clear up, Gorran Haven beach was only 5 minutes walk away and we ventured to Mevagissey one morning, which was only a ten minute drive. Perfect for adults, children and pooches. • "We stayed at the Garden House for a week in May 2019."

The town of Gorran Haven is lovely and the local shop is very handy. We had a pleasant stay at the house but it is definitely lacking in some of the basics. We ended up having to buy things like bin bags, washing up liquid and sponges as they weren’t stocked. The coffee machines are also pointless as there are no pods to fit in unless you buy your own. Not big things but not what is implied in the description of the house. We would probably bear this in mind if we were thinking of returning as the prices do not reflect a less than basic house. It was clean and did the job but would think again before booking for our stay next year.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We provide all guests with a welcome pack of household and cleaning essentials which should be enough for the first couple of days. However as Garden House is a self catering property we do not provide any more than this. We also provide a Cornish cream tea to welcome our guests which we hope you enjoyed on your arrival at the house. We do hope that you choose to stay with us again. Property Owner

  • "The property was lovely."

Only points I would make are that the property seemed to be newly refurbished or new to the holiday rental scene as a few little things were missing (even the wi-fi password written down on the welcome book/guide was wrong, I had to get the password from the router). Firstly the living room area has excellent folding patio doors but they provide very little privacy as they don't have any curtains/blinds. At times it felt a little uncomfortable when it was dark outside and you had the lights on inside. Secondly the property had very little cleaning facilities/products such as cleaning spray, hand wash/soap, washing up liquid etc... We had a young baby and a dog with us so keeping things clean became difficult and we ended up going out to buy some cleaning products. Lastly we only got 3 rolls of toilet roll for 1 weeks stay and as the property can sleep up to 6 people it's unlikely to last 2 days. Again we went out and bought some more toilet roll within the first 2 days. Overall the property was excellent and would definitely recommend to anyone and we would be happy to stay here again also.

About the location

Mevagissey 3 miles.

Once a crab fishing village, Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall is ideally placed to explore the many beaches and coves in the area. Gorran Haven has a small sandy beach set behind a traditional sea wall, connecting with the longer Great Perhaver beach at low tide and is popular with families. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is readily accessible from the South West Coast Path that passes through Gorran Haven. Within walking distance are a number of more isolated beaches and the 370 feet high Dodman Point, rising above Gorran, which is thought to be one of Cornwall’s most dramatic headlands, and the cause of many a shipwreck. From its gorse-covered heights there are views across Veryan Bay to the west and Vault Beach to the east. Alternatively, you may wish to walk the coastal path to the harbour village of Mevagissey. Near Gorran Haven, in a beautiful setting of woodland, stream and pasture, is Caerhays Castle, an informal 60-acre garden on the coast near Porthluney Cove. Nearby attractions are the wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project, Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and the cathedral town of Truro, with an excellent range of quality shopping and dining.
