  • "Very good accommodation, the owner was very friendly and helpful,"

  • "Looked forward to our visit due to 'Outstanding' rating and reviews."

On arrival bitterly disappointed to find a scruffy garden in which the 'private seating area' consisted of a very old unkempt picnic table on an uneven lawn.We didnt realise the property was attached to the owners residence and that 'the view' would be obscured by a large van and a small car covered in advertising. The bungalow itself was spacious and adequately equipped, clean and tidy although the settee in the lounge was extremely uncomfortable. The owners and family were lovely and helpful but the biggest issue was that the heating was controlled by the owner using a Hive system which often left us cold (unseasonal weather)and, inspite of the owner turning the heat up to 24c the heat often did not come on.When it did it was very efficient.I realise reviews are subjective but this property is in no way outstanding and is in need of an upgrade to reach this level.

The hosts were fantastic. The location is ideal for walkers and those with 4 legs. The beaches were ideal. Just a shame about the rain we had. If you want a nice quiet place to stay. This is the one.

  • "Summerfield Cottage is in a lovely quiet village, walking distance from 2 beaches."

The house is really cosy, and kept to a really high standard. It has everything you want and more. The owners are next door if you need anything and have great local knowledge. We did a lovely walk with them and their dog. It's the best equipped property we've stayed in. The property was so clean and nice to come back to. The bathroom was a complete joy as we had bad weather, so space to dry out as well was perfect. The bed was comfortable and thought has gone into this house. It felt like a home from home. It made it a perfect stay and break away.

The bungalow itself was comfy and well appointed and the owners were friendly and welcoming on arrival and let us know they were on hand if needed (thanks for the cooking oil we forgot to buy!) as they live in the property attached to the bungalow.

Both times for 5 nights. The place is ideal for a coastal walker like myself, or a family with a couple of young children. The cottage is perfectly situated, a mere 10 mins walk to the beach. Much of the credit for my 2 stays being so enjoyable must go to the owners of Summerfield Cottage, Helen and Steve who have been amazing, and are a lovely couple.

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at Summerfield Cottage in Gorran Haven and would return in a heartbeat."

Situated a ten-minute walk away from a great beach with fantastic cliff walks (and an excellent fish & chip shop!), it is perfectly located. The cottage is clean and peaceful, with comfortable beds, an ample corner sofa and a large TV. The picnic bench on the front lawn was a great spot for soaking up the sunny weather. The bungalow has a slightly odd layout, with the kitchen in the entrance hall, which then leads into the bathroom, but for a few nights' stay it wasn't a problem. We met the owners during our stay, who were really kind and accommodating.

We had a lovely 3 days in a traditional Cornish seaside village. The only problem we had was the sensor in the hallway which when triggered put the kitchen and bathroom lights on. The lounge door has glass in it And the lights woke the dog up!!

We were very comfortable at Summerfield Cottage and owners were very helpful and friendly.Just the place to stay if you enjoy walking the coastal paths and only a short stroll down to the little harbour. Many places of interest just a short drive away and beautiful scenery. As we were visiting at the end of the season many places were winding down but we still found loads to do and will certainly visit again. Gorran Haven is very dog friendly too even allowing dogs on the beach.

  • "This cottage, as with most others in our experience, is poorly equipped with cooking equipment."

There is insufficient equipment to meet basic needs - for example there is no mixing bowl, casserole dish or baking dish for 2 to 4 people. The only baking dish was huge - enough for 10 people. The cutlery was of poor quality. I think it is about time that Sykes implemented a standard whereby owners have to provide a minimum of kitchen equipment that allows holiday makers to adequately prepare all their meals - and that doe not just mean 3 poor quality saucepan and a frying pan. We don't all want to eat out every day - or maybe not at all. The cottage was conveniently situated for the activities we undertook. It was in a quiet location and comfortable.

Ideal for couples or families looking to enjoy a break near the beach or exploring the stunning South West Coast Path, the cottage is certain to appeal all year round.

There is a kitchen and a separate living room with a dining area, a large Plasma TV offering Sky sports, movies, and children's channels, and a sofa bed.

An easy five minute walk from the cottage, let the kids tear around the children's playground or have a kick about on the football pitch.

There are also tennis courts that you can set up family tournaments on, on sunny afternoons!

Close to Gorran Haven are the secluded sandy beaches of Vault and Hemmick, and of course, the pretty harbour village of Mevagissey where it is a joy to simply sit and gaze at the fishing boats and the picturesque, colourful cottages lining the cliffside.

There are many attractions to keep you amused, including the Eden Project, the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan, or why not take a ferry from St Mawes to Fowey, with its charming winding streets hiding unusual shops and restaurants?

A quietly-placed cottage, close to the spectacular coastline of the Roseland Peninsula, with plenty of pretty beaches and interesting attractions to discover nearby.

About the location

GORRAN HAVEN

Mevagissey 3 miles.

Once a crab fishing village, Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall is ideally placed to explore the many beaches and coves in the area. Gorran Haven has a small sandy beach set behind a traditional sea wall, connecting with the longer Great Perhaver beach at low tide and is popular with families. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is readily accessible from the South West Coast Path that passes through Gorran Haven. Within walking distance are a number of more isolated beaches and the 370 feet high Dodman Point, rising above Gorran, which is thought to be one of Cornwall’s most dramatic headlands, and the cause of many a shipwreck. From its gorse-covered heights there are views across Veryan Bay to the west and Vault Beach to the east. Alternatively, you may wish to walk the coastal path to the harbour village of Mevagissey. Near Gorran Haven, in a beautiful setting of woodland, stream and pasture, is Caerhays Castle, an informal 60-acre garden on the coast near Porthluney Cove. Nearby attractions are the wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project, Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and the cathedral town of Truro, with an excellent range of quality shopping and dining.
