The property is tired but that’s not the issue- there is no excuse for the above list

) at the fabulous Worthy House. It really is a home away from home with such a special feeling the minute you walk in - a wonderful library, welcoming Aga, extremely comfortable beds, good quality linen and towels and well equipped kitchen. The location is perfect for both the beach and Polzeath and being walkable to The Oystercatcher pub is a bonus too. Thank you to the owners for sharing what is clearly a much loved and cared for house.

  • "We have come to the Daymer Bay Area for many years but this was our first time to stay in Worthy House."

We loved it! It is nicely situated for easy access (no hills to climb!) to coffee shops and a new and very wonderful posh grocers/patisserie called FLO’S. Plus Daymer Bay and Polzeath require just rolling down the hill and plopping into the sea! The house was beautifully appointed, comfortable, cosy and well-thought out. We loved the fire pit and the expansive outdoor eating areas as well as the comfortable indoor dining room — both of which were perfect for our family of 6 plus guests (up to 10 on some nights) to enjoy long, relaxed family dinners comfortably seated with beautiful sunset views. The games and books were perfect vacation fare especially for our avid Agatha Christie fans…and thank you for providing a Bible. Beds and bedrooms were spacious, comfortable and we loved them - lots of great rest was achieved. And on the canine front, our dear Sheltie paid Worthy House his highest compliment—he hid inside when we packed up in hopes he might be left behind!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

We found the house really lovely and had no complaints. Towels were fine. Aga was hot and there is a hob if its not hot enough to cook as quickly as you need. John Bray representative was very good and happy to help in anyway. Great location.

  • "Sadly we struggled to enjoy our stay at Worthy House."

It very much felt that the owners were less interested in the comfort and enjoyment of our stay, and more interested in us helping to financially support their holiday home. There were really dark water stains on many of the carpets where radiators had leaked, one thin pillow per bed in three of the bedrooms (requested more but owners refused), tiny towels which barely covered an adult let alone any larger persons (again, owners refused request for larger towels). Chipped and dirty paint, filthy cushions on the dining room chairs, cobwebs and dog hair galore, an Aga which heated the kitchen to an uncomfortable level yet was unable to retain internal heat and took years to cook bacon. The downstairs seal on the shower was loose, the fridge small and too warm and the downstairs WC sink was loose and the loo had a broken seat. Oh, and we had no gas for the BBQ until half way through our stay. John Bray were responsive and understanding but we felt their hands were tied by the owners' instructions. We have been visiting the area for more than 20 years and we felt ripped off and unvalued as 'customers' by Worthy House. I would not recommend a visit here, but I would thank JB for their efforts in trying to improve our stay. Their staff were pleasant and polite. We are not the type to complain normally but we felt that Worthy House was not keeping up with their side of the transactional bargain per se.

FROM THE OWNER : thank you for your honest feedback. We would like to stress that we have always tried to respond to feedback in a constructive way. For example, last year we purchased an additional fridge which is situated in the laundry, which we hope you found useful. In addition, we spent significant sums last year on re-landscaping the back garden to offer additional parking, more privacy, and an attractive place to sit in the sun and in the evening. We also spent a substantial sum to carefully sand and refurbish the wooden floor in the sitting/dining rooms - we hope you agree it looks lovely. We know that there are unfortunately a few water stains on the sisal floor, which was replaced only three years ago. We also had the entire house re-painted inside and outside in that same year. Sisal is, however, a forgiving floor covering for the sand which is often brought in by ourselves and our guests. We don't understand why there were fewer than two pillows per berth, as we have always ensured that we had sufficient. However, we have bought an additional supply of new pillows in case any have disappeared. For that matter, we have also bought 20 brand new large white bath sheet towels in light of recent comments, and these should have been supplied to guests by now. And there are also now two sets of new dining chair cushions to replace the ones that you found defective. The Aga is quite old and occasionally temperamental now, having been carefully maintained by us for 21 years and counting. As with all Agas, the oven temperatures vary if the lids are left open for any length of time. Therefore we suggest that hob cooking is best done on the four electric hobs also supplied in the kitchen, and indeed things like roast potatoes or Yorkshire pudding are better in the full size electric oven, where higher temperatures are more easily retained. We ask John Bray every year to clean the house to the highest possible standard, including a full spring clean. What has been our much loved family home these last 21 years inevitably has signs that it is a home, rather than an anonymous hotel. In light of recent comments, we will empty all drawers and cupboards that have some of our things that we're willing to share with our guests. We will also take down family photographs and replace with generic art if that is what our guests now prefer. As previously said, thank you for your honest feedback. It is very much noted, and has already been acted on. We have invested every year to make it a clean and comfortable house, and will continue to do so. Property Owner

  • "Whilst the house was great in terms of size and location, it was really let down by the cleanliness."

The house was very dusty, and it was apparent that some areas - such as the windows and aga vent- had not been cleaned in a while( it was completely caked in dust). There were cobwebs in most corners and surfaces & ornaments were ‘grubby’. It is a beautiful house, but as I say, very much let down by a lack of attention to detail I’m afraid. Small things such as cleaning out dirt from candle votives, thoroughly dusting and cleaning surfaces and floors downstairs would have made a real difference to the enjoyment of our stay. Similarly, the bathrooms had bottles of empty or nearly empty soap ( likely left behind by previous occupiers) which felt unpleasant. It is self catering, so fine not to provide of course, but leaving mismatched practically empty bottles in each loo again felt like little care had gone into making it a fresh and pleasant environment for guests on holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I am sorry that you found your stay in Worthy House disappointing. It is a shame that you found the property to be dirty and unpleasant and the bathrooms weren't properly stocked up for you. We have made note of these issues and made the housekeeping team aware to ensure this doesn't happen in the future. We do hope to welcome you back to Cornwall again very soon. • "We really loved the house, it was beautiful, and we'd love to return."

We had a brilliant time. There are a few gripes that we think can be approved upon.. - We weren't provided with enough towels and they were all really small. There weren't any hand towels in any of the bathrooms and the 1 towel we got each per person were more like hand towels not bath towels - There wasn't enough hand soap or toilet roll provided. This meant we had to go shopping straight away. We know it's not always expected to be there, but it's such a nice touch when it is. - The fridge/freezer was rather small. We barely had enough space for all the food & drink, especially the freezer compartment. There was ample room in the utility area, so we thought it would be perfect to pop another in there for more room? (there were 10 of us so quite a lot of room needed) - We were delighted to see the lovely bbq and gas canister in the garden so got all the food ready for one, but then realised the gas was on low. It took a couple of days for it to be replaced (by a lovely chap from John Bray! He was in the Navy and came from Tintagel, really nice chatting to him and a great service), it just wouldve been nice if it was ready with gas when we arrived. - The bedside lamp in the downstairs bedroom wasn't working and wasn't replaced even though we reported it. We replaced ourselves in the end. On the whole we had a lovely time and were really pleased, but the above points are just things that could be improved upon. Thanks very much to all the team and the owners.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad that you enjoyed your holiday. We appreciate your comments for improvements which will be fed back to the owner. We thank you for patience with maintenance team. We hope to welcome you back to Cornwall in the near future- John Bray Team. Property Owner
