Blue Lobster Cottage

We had a fabulous time during our week at the Blue Lobster Cottage.

Port Isaac was charming, Sunday Roast at the Port Gaverne Restaurant was delectable, and Tintagel Castle was spectacular. The cottage itself is large, well maintained and provides excellent cooking and sleeping facilities. The back garden is private and relaxing too. We highly recommend Blue Lobster Cottage!

The property had lovely decor and fixtures.

Great location being a short walk to shops, restaurants and the sea. The poor maintenance let it down though - bathroom sink not draining properly, slow shower drainage, dirty windows, kitchen bin lid wouldn't shut, and the garden needed a tidy up. Arrival was Friday night so no way of sorting issues till midway through our stay and by then we had got used to it and were just enjoying our holiday and used the kitchen sink instead. Hopefully these things can be addressed soon for future guests.

This is our second year visiting the property and we are very disappointed with the condition, the property was not fully clean, there were spiders in the bathroom, and the shower tray had mould all around the mastic.

The towel rail was not attached to the wall so every time you put the towel on it, it fell off. Generally lacked maintenance. But the location is great and parking space is brilliant as difficult to find parking and for unloading all our things.

Great accommodation and location.

Cottage was really clean and very comfortable. Parking a bit tight for a larger car at the front, but it is only £26 for a weekly at the car park on New Road which is a short walk to the property. A nice welcome pack on arrival. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Parking is tight but was just manageable with our Ford Kuga and as the alternative is a public pay & display carpark a distance away it’s worth practicing your reverse parking.

The cottage is every bit as lovely as it looks online with a good sized kitchen diner at the rear, comfortable lounge and the one bed we used was very comfortable. The shower and towels were good. There was a really good welcome pack on arrival including milk, scones, jam and cream. What would have been welcome however would have been more than 1 toilet roll, 1 tissue left in each box for decoration and 4 dishwasher tabs for our 14 night stay. This is what I would expect from a cheap caravan booking not a high spec cottage in this price range. Whilst John Bray Cottages say this is Sykes policy, we’ve stayed in over 30 Sykes cottages in the last 3 years and no other cottage was as measly with consumables. A very nice stay in a beautiful cottage just slightly tainted by John Bray Cottages stinginess. Note that we had virtually no phone reception here other than in an upstairs bedroom and the local John Bray office was mostly closed during our stay despite the information on both their website and their front door indicating they were open. This might be an issue if you ever needed to contact them to resolve an issue quickly. Highly recommended cottage but perhaps check your cell phone coverage and bring some loo roll!!

Lovely little place to stay the owners had thought of everything you would need on a break away really a home from home

Beautiful cottage in an ideal location, welcome pack was a lovely touch.

Perfect for our stay. Beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. Unfortunately the bed at the back of the house was very uncomfortable, mattress felt like it sloped on both sides giving quite an uncomfortable sleep for us both. The other beds were lovely.

Beautiful holiday at blue lobster cottage.

The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Perfect location. Close to shops and beaches. Parking was a challenge but by the end of the week I had become an expert.

Lovely, cozy holiday cottage with everything we needed.

Was a lovely touch to have milk and some tea etc left for us for when we arrived. The garden utility room very useful and kids loved the pool table which kept them entertained when weather not as good! Would recommend to our family and friends!

Lovely cottage, thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the fixtures were of a high standard, perfect location as well.

Only negatives was the parking space, ok if the neighbours weren’t home but they had a massive car which left very little space. Also the garden wasn’t at the same standard as the house, this could’ve been much nicer. Overall though, lovely and will come back one day, thank you.

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely, homely cottage.

It was well equipped and beautifully designed. The beds were all very comfy and everyone slept really well. The location was great with a short walk to the centre of Port Isaac or Port Gavene (around 10 mins walk). We enjoyed exploring the area with a visit to Rock and getting the ferry across to Padstow being a favourite. We didn’t use the parking space at the cottage due to having a larger car but there is a car park round the corner that is £26.50 for the week and was very convenient. Just to be aware there isn’t a stairgate to keep dogs downstairs as stated, we didn’t find this too much of an issue as there are doors to close off the downstairs rooms but worth being aware as we usually take our own along. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return.

Beautiful cottage, very well equipped, decorated and furnished.

We had a fantastic holiday. One chair in the living room had a castor missing and although I reported it, it was never mended. We could manage but it was dangerous and there were only 4 of us. If there had been 6 it would have been a problem. I consider this the managements problem not the owners. We could have done with two bins in the kitchen, one for recycling and one for general rubbish. It was also unclear what to do with glass bottles. Cornwall council seems to have done away with 'bottle banks' and I was loathe to put them in the general waste. We ended up taking them home which wasn't ideal. The garden was beautiful although as a gardener it grieved me that it wasn't better looked after. I did find myself pulling out weeds; it was a natural reaction. My daughter told me off. The games room was an extra benefit and rekindled my table football skills after 40 years. I would certainly consider rebooking and would recommend the cottage to others.

Lovely cottage very well designed, however a few issues like no lock on the bathroom door in fact it hardly closed properly which is no good with a mixed generational group.

Carpet outside bathroom door needs fixing as it has come away from gripper rod which was painful to step on. Garden needs a tidy up loads of fag ends outside the back door to the right hand side and a drinks bottle to the left, it could do with a general tidy up. Kitchen floor has a few issues with edging strip coming up in a few places.

Pretty cottage over all excellent, clean and well equiped, great position, easy access to village and Nathan Outlaws.

Parking space in front for one car. We able to get V60 volvo estate into space. Nice little garden with dining space and fire pit was raining during our trip so did not use it. Dog friendly well placed to access coastal path. Missing toilet seat cover and sink mirror/ shaver socket hummed couldn't work out how to turn it off. Minor issues though a lovely stay

We had a fabulous time staying at The Blue Lobster Cottage in Port Isaac.

It was a last minute booking and we are so happy we chose this cottage. The owners have really thought about the decor and what is needed from a holiday let. The cottage was super comfortable for our family of 4 and the dog. The addition of the parking space and utility room/beach house was super. Especially after a few rainy and sunny beach days! We'll definitely be returning in the future!

Literally the worst level of service we have ever experienced in holiday rental!

I suspect John Bray was once a good local business before it was bought.

We stayed at the Blue Lobster cottage for a week (2 people, one dog).

It was a great space for me and my Mum, and an ideal location to walk down to Port Issac or to Port Gaverne - Better for Morning Swims/Paddle boarding. The cottage had everything you would need for your stay, and with the English weather, it’s great for sunny days and rainy days inside. The parking is good for a small car with some power, we drove a Mini Sport Automatic and parked each day with no issues. Anything bigger could potentially be tricky but there is on road parking further up which was free. We are looking at rebooking for next year.

Only complaint was that the car parking space is very small. we managed to park there once but then couldn't unload the car. we managed to find parking in the carpark around the corner, but I imaging in high season this would be very difficult.

The most enjoyable week at Blue Lobster Cottage.

From the moment we walked in it felt very warm and welcoming. The beds and facilities were excellent- it had everything we needed and more! The boys particularly loved the board games and football table in the Beach House Utility. It was the perfect base to explore beautiful North Cornwall. We’d love to return in the near future. Good location, close to local Co Op. Well-equipped kitchen and laundry room. Lovely decor and theme throughout the house. No complaints from us. Recommended.

We had a lovely weeks stay.

The cottage is clean and very well equipped and thought of everything you could need for a week away. As a family of 5 it was a little on the small side for us, although we did spend most of our time out exploring Cornwall. The parking however is a nightmare with 3 little ones. We have a Q7 and there was no chance we could fit on the space, agree with other reviews that the extra expense of the car parking wasn’t clear when booking. We upset some of the neighbours when unloading when we arrived, but was impossible to park in the car park and carry all our belongings up the hill with three young children. Again because of this we wouldn’t stay again which is a shame as it’s in a lovely location and clean.

Very clean and well equipped accommodation.

Comfortable beds and newly furnished. We think that the accommodation is on the small side for a growing family of 4. Whilst the lounge is nicely decorated, it's not that comfortable as the sofas are small and hard. Be really nice if a soft sofa was in there. Garden is impractical for children and the BBQ is not suitable so didn't use all week. The biggest issue by far is the parking space. We have a VW Golf and we could not fit it in. Whilst it's appreciated that the dimensions are on the sales details, the fact that there is a concrete wall either side really limits getting into the space. With this I've had to spend £70 on parking at the main car park at the top of the hill. A huge inconvenience especially when I thought I was booking a property with parking. With this I would not use the property again or recommend to our friends and family either. The parking is insufficient and I feel miss sold on this point which is a shame. We had a good week in Cornwall using this property as a base but it's not a dwelling to kick back and relax in due to some issues noted. Regards Richard.

Only minor downside is the parking - any long and low-down car is going to damage their front and/or rear bumper as it's so tight with all the kerbstones and mini-walls around.

However, it's cheap enough to park down the road anyway (JustPark so you can do it whilst in the property if you need to extend), so I'd recommend that and save future owners the stress of trying to get it into the space and damaging the car (like I did, after a tired 7 hour drive!). But other than that, the place is SUPERB!!!!!!!
