  • "You stay here for the views, removed from most of the crowds and watching the sunsets (barring rain)."

    And even if you don't have a car (we didn't since we enjoy riding the bus), the walk into town or Porth Island is quite doable for even the creakiest of knees (albeit maybe slowly). But despite all the pluses, there are a few things to be aware of: 1) the instructions say to put your rubbish into plastic bags when leaving but no bags are provided, so remember to bring your own; 2) same with soap of any sort since only laundry soap is provided, and you don't want to be taking a shower with laundry soap because you forgot to pack a bar or two of soap; 3) things are different in the UK vs. the US so those "king" beds are NOT the king beds you'd find in the States (closer to smaller queen beds); and finally, if you're not used to the way doors lock (or open) in the UK, you need to know that you have to first LIFT the door handle up BEFORE you can insert the key to lock or unlock the door. All minor issues, and we might add that when you first arrive, tired and groggy if coming from the US, there is NO coffee or nibbles or anything so don't expect to wake up and have a bite or cup UNLESS you brought a few items in your bag. The closest grocery store and breakfast shop is a bit of a hike and will seem farther away when all you want is a cup of coffee (they use "pods" but there IS a French press), and dang, your wake-up shower will be with laundry detergent because you forgot those bars of soap. But forget all that, just step outside and watch the tides come and go, maybe even brave the steep steps carved into the sea wall that will give you access to the beach (careful, the wet steps may be slippery if the tide has just gone out). Even better, and only IF the tide is fully out, walk down to the beach at Lusty Glaze and walk into Newquay that way. Now THAT will wake you up, but in an extremely pleasant way!

  • "Beautiful home with everything you could need."

    Fabulous views across the coast. We visited during Storm Darragh and it was brilliant to be inside safe and cosy whilst watching the waves crash against the rocks and sand. The views changed constantly. Comfy beds, lots of space for storage, washer/dryer (which was needed during the wet days) Highly recommended and we will be booking again for next year

  • "When we arrived there was water pouring through the bathroom ceiling, it was pouring our of the recessed light socket."

    there was so much water on the floor it was all in the one bedroom. I called the housekeeper straight away on the second attempt the call was answered. The housekeeper said she found water coming through the ceiling that morning and called a plumber. by the time the plumber arrived the water had stopped and they couldn't find where the water was coming from. So she said she would call the plumber again. The plumber arrived and located what he thought might be the problem. It was fixed, I called the house keeper again to say the plumber had arrived but there was so much water everywhere we needed more towels. The house keeper said we would find some extra towels in the store under the bed. I cannot believe that the housekeeper who knew there had been a problem that day and the water had been pouring from morning until 4.30pm when we entered the property did not even attend the property or call to make sure everything was ok. we were left to clean and sort it out ourselves. I have never known such poor after care. I have taken photos of where the water was pouring through the ceiling. Through a ceiling and through an electrical light switch. Terrible aftercare by the company.

    We are sorry that your arrival at Island View wasn’t the experience it should have been because of the leak in the bathroom. I’m glad it was quickly fixed but apologise for the inconvenience caused and that the housekeeper’s follow-up did not meet expectations. We have followed this up to improve if anything similar were to happen again. We hope you had a lovely holiday after this initial issue. Property Owner

  • "We had very few complaints, just a couple of minor ones - the frying pan had lost most of its non-stick coating and had seen better days and all the knives were blunt, with no sharpener available."

    Apart from that, Island View is a lovely comfortable cottage with amazing views and it was a delight to stay there.

6 The Watermark is a semi-detached, coastal holiday home arranged in an 'upside down' design to make the most of the spectacular views, in the small seaside village of Porth.

It has recently been refurbished throughout including a new kitchen and bathrooms. Ideal for couples or families, you enter the house on the first floor into the spacious, open-plan living space with a lounge, dining, and kitchen areas. French doors open onto a decked balcony with glass screens taking full advantage of the amazing view across Porth Island towards Watergate Bay and beyond. On the ground floor are the two bedrooms both of which have patio doors opening onto the rear decked area and private garden, perfect for an early morning cup of tea watching the waves. The master bedroom has a king size bed, fitted wardrobes, and an en-suite bath/shower, basin and wc. The family bedroom has a king size bed, fitted wardrobes and a single bed, with an en-suite walk-in shower, basin and wc. 6 The Watermark is superbly located for families, watersports lovers and walking enthusiasts alike, this spacious holiday home has possibly the best views in the area, with an enviable position overlooking Porth Island.

It lies in a small development within the Glendorgal Estate, with a direct private path to the beach. A short scenic walk along the coastal path takes you to Porth with its wonderful family beach, a pub directly on the beach selling traditional bar meals, as well as a shop, tearoom, café and ice cream shop.Further along the South-West Coastal path to the north is Watergate Bay, famous for a variety of water sports and a selection of restaurants within the Watergate Bay hotel complex. Virtually on our doorstep in the other direction is privately owned Lusty Glaze Beach, a beautiful beach with surf school, excellent bar, pizzas and restaurant (seasonal opening). An enjoyable walk further along the coast will take you into Newquay town which has a range of visitor attractions and unrivalled beaches, and an active fishing harbour. The choice of pubs, restaurants and takeaways in Newquay is guaranteed to suit all tastes. The city of Truro, and “Rick Stein’s” Padstow are within an easy drive, as well as the award-winning Eden Project and the many famous gardens of Cornwall. Local restaurants offer Cornish wines, produce and fresh seafood. This is a great place for holidays or a getaway in all seasons. Accommodation

Newquay 1.3 miles; Truro 15 miles.

Porth is a small seaside village on the outskirts of Newquay. The village offers a shop, cafes, restaurants and a pub on the sandy beach, plus nearby is the South West Coast Path, which boasts spectacular scenery. Watergate Bay, with its rolling waves, surf schools, cafe and pubs, is a short walk away, and the popular resort of Newquay with its beaches, watersports, pubs, restaurants, zoo and aquarium is well worth a visit. Fistral Beach and surf centre are three miles west of Porth, whilst the surf training school at Lusty Glaze Beach is actually within the village. The charming fishing village of Padstow, along with Bodmin Moor, the city of Truro, Falmouth and the world-famous Eden Project are all within easy reach, making Porth an ideal base for a Cornish getaway.
