  • "Lovely cottage, dog friendly but no garden, you walk across the court yard to golf course which isn't really a problem unless you like a lie in , great area, few minutes from swanpool Beach and a short walk into falmouth, the double bed room window didn't work, we like fresh air!"

Kitchen area is good with a large fridge freezer, would recommend

Thank you so much for taking the time to produce a review following your stay at Hazel Barn, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the velux window, unfortunately the part which arrived to repair the window prior to your stay was incorrect and has had to be returned and reordered. Despite this we are delighted you had a wonderful stay. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place, however there are quite a few things that disappointed us and I would want changing before going back."

The main disappointment was the beach being further than stated, the listing says 15 minutes stroll however it took much longer than this and the golf course had no signage to show the correct way to walk.. other issues as follows: - sofa stained and smelt of dog - no pack with welcome instructions, just a piece of paper with the wifi password - shower did not drain! It took around 20 minutes for the tray to drain so had to cut our showers short to avoid overflow - no private garden, advertised as dog friendly however we had no enclosed garden. Would be as easy as putting in a gate and some fencing to make more private. Also no view which was disappointing as we expected to ‘back onto the golf course’ as described. - entry road full of pot holes and could do some damage your car. - unable to open the bedroom ceiling blinds meaning no natural light, very dull. I hope that using these comments you can improve the barn!

Extremely well appointed property.. everything we could need. Owners have been made aware of blind needing repair in twin room ( although it didn’t cause us any trouble sleeping!) • "Thank you, we love the cottage, it is very well equipped which is great."

We have stayed in this group of cottages before as we have family in Falmouth just around the corner. It would benefit from having a little gate fitted just between the wall and cottage especially as it is advertised as pet friendly. Secondly, the second bedroom really needs something fixed at the window by the road and you can look into that room from the road- not great for a paranoid teen! I am sure this must already be a known issue but unless the shared approach road is fixed in some way, we will not be coming back which is a shame as otherwise ideal. The pot holes are now dangerous even with a 4x4.

We were a bit disappointed to see the tv signal still hadn’t been sorted since two years ago and especially now we were returning with a baby and spending more time in the cottage. It’s perfectly located if you’re up for some scenic walks and the cottage has everything you need!!

  • "Overall, a nice base for exploring the Falmouth area."

It’s a very quiet location with access, via a private woodland path, to the coast and beach providing you’re fit and active and not pushing pushchairs etc. The following comments are meant to be constructive and are not meant to dissuade others from using the accommodation as it suited our purposes well: As it’s dog friendly accommodation, the front entrance area lends itself to having a gate affixed to the wall to enclose the front garden to some degree. The bedroom skylight blind in one bedroom which has suffered abuse in the past and which was consequently inoperative and fully closed while we were there, could be replaced with a mechanical rope pulley system on a flap blind. This would allow daylight in during the day and allow more fresh air circulation as required. It might also then be less likely to be damaged in operation. The Wifi signal is not the strongest but that’s probably a geographical area problem rather than the equipment used. I must say though, if I had to put up with such a poor internet connection where I live, BT would be hearing from me on a regular basis!! But I’m not familiar with connection issues generally in this part of the country.

  • "On arrival the house was clean and well equipped and in a great location."

However we soon discovered that the maintenance left a lot to be desired. There were 3 lightbulbs not working or missing. The electric window opener in the bathroom was coming out of the wall and unusable as it wasn’t safe. No way to close the bedroom blinds (skylights) in either room. We contacted Sykes (when we finally got through 24 hrs later) to report this. They called back to say that there are poles to operate the blinds. Found these but both poles are broken so we couldn’t open or close the blinds all week. The TV reception is very poor but the WIFI is appalling which meant we couldn’t watch any TV or Netflix/Amazon. You can barely download an email or browse the internet. We then had no internet for 12 hrs due to a BT problem but when this was fixed we still couldn’t reconnect. Again we reported this to Sykes and were promised a return phone call which we never got. My spoke to BT ourselves in the end and were told that no-one else had been in touch to report the problem. It would need an engineer to come out but as not the account holder we could not arrange. 2 days and no contact from Sykes. Appalling customer service. We finally got it to work ourselves after spending several hours trying. The poor internet and TV reception lets what is a lovely house down. If we had known it was that bad (commented in previous reviews) we would not have booked.

Only downside was tv signal was poor and check in and out times are not great. Check in at 3 and out at 11 would be more in line with a hotel stay and give you more time and make the stay more relaxing. We paid a good amount of money it would have been nice to relax and not rush on the morning of heading home.

Thank you for your comments which are sincerely appreciated. The TV signal strength can be intermittent and is solely due to the Barns location and local atmospheric conditions. The wifi was installed in 2017 and will be updated to fiber recently available in the area. Your valid observation of the check-in and out times are noted, and we shall explore what other choices could be made available. Owner We are glad you enjoyed our Barn; thank you for staying with us. We reported it to you on day one. The maintenance line continually rang out . We left a message but no one got back to us so we had no oven all week. WiFi and tv signal very poor. Apart from that it was a lovely location and lovely accommodation. Road to barn is very badly potholed though.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear this. The customer team at Sykes could have followed this up for you during your stay. In this case the cooker clock simply needed to be reset and is now working without issue. Though there is wifi at Hazel Barn due to the location the signal can be poor at times - this is the best service/ broadband provider that is currently available. The owners are aware at the road has seen increased wear recently and steps have been taken to request that this be repaired. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your holiday otherwise. There was cobwebs in the ceiling and a large spider in the main bedroom. We had difficulty opening and closing the double bedroom blind and we gave up trying with the blind in the back bedroom. The upsides were that the location was beautiful, quiet and we were able to listen to the owls when it became dark. There bedroom were spacious with loads of storage, the bathroom had a good size shower and a separate bath although the shower itself needs a bit of attention (the fixing onto the wall) The kitchen / living room was a little small but everything in there that you need. The building itself is lovely and light, surprisingly warm with spot lights and down lights rather than standard fixings. You have 1 parking space which fitted our Ecosport but it was not very wide . All in all a lovely week, quiet, well situated and we would definitely go back again.

Thank you for your feedback. We have raised your concerns with the owner who will ask the Property Management Company who has responsibility for the lane. The only downside was we didn't find any details about a garden, guess you have to access by walking around the back of the house. But the walk across the golf course and to the beach more than made up for that with the amazing views across Falmouth and down over towards Helford. Lovely property but not really for four adults, better for two or a couple with two smaller children. Loved the clear skies and star watching

It was the shower controller was very stiff to turn on and off and the whole fitting was loose, which made it difficult to operate and was a concern if it broke and could not be turned off properly. The property would benefit from a better instruction manual for internet where various things were a puzzle to work out, which we did eventually. Otherwise an enjoyable stay, lovely location which worked well for us.

Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback. The problem with the shower has now been fixed. We are glad that you had an enjoyable stay and enjoyed the location, and we very much hope to see you again in the not-too-distant future. Property Owner

Perhaps mention in the details about long narrow road for access as this would not be suitable for all. Private access to the coast path across the golf course was handy. The cottage was clean, well equiped and warm. Just one very small point - why did we have to pay £3 when we agreed to move our original date and not cancel. Was a perfect location whilst visiting my son who lives in Falmouth. Definitely need a car staying here though as it is off the beaten track . Beds were super comfy . Perfect for 2 Adults and 1 or 2 children. Would be a cramped for 4 adults or older children in the lounge area. Only a couple of negatives 1. No secure outdoor space so anyone with a dog will need to walk them down the lane to toilet which is fine if it isn’t pouring with rain like it was for the whole of our week . 2. The WiFi’ and TV reception isn’t great and froze a lot. 3. The outside light and 3 of the lounge lights weren’t working so was a little dark in the evenings - probably just the bulbs but should have been checked . Would definitely stay here again out of season .

With so many other properties and building works in progress mèeting other traffic becomes a problem. We found the barbicue was just a rusting bucket, the shelve inside the shower was also rusting and the base of the shower was black with mould and needed a major clean and new silicone. We tried to walk to the beach (advert said ten minutes) after thirty minutes we still had not reached the beach and so returned feeling disappointed. The picture gives the impression of a quiet secluded barn on its own not one of many. This was not in the same league as last weeks accommodation. • "The interior of Hazel Barn is well appointed however there is no window in the master bedroom apart from a skylight in the ceiling which made us feel that we were sleeping in a cave."

The most disappointing thing was the exterior space which essentially boiled down to sitting in the hard standing car park area. There is a small wall that separates the house from your car and numerous previous visitors had suggested in the visitors book that there should be a gate fitted so that guests with young children or dogs could relax in the knowledge that they would not stray into the car park area. There are even old hinges on the wall from presumably when it was once a barn which could be used to install a gate. We were relatively lucky as the weather was bright but too cool to sit outside after a lovely day walking on the coastal path which is conveniently just a hop skip and a jump over the adjacent golf course. If it had been high summer we would not have been able to leisurely sit with a glass of wine with the patio doors open for fear of our dog wandering off into the car park! All the other properties on the complex seemed to have their own contained garden space apart from Hazel Barn. I also needed to contact someone because I was having difficulty setting up the Wi-fi. I rang the name and number in Hazel Barn’s information file only to be told that the info was three years out of date and the property had been sold to someone else and to ring Sykes Cottages (so please get someone to update the information file in the property).
