  • "Our stay at Pencliffe was really nice."

This is the second time we have stayed here and love Boscastle, the atmosphere, the walks and the scenery. Our only comment was the comfort of the bed, which was a little to soft for us, the choice of pillows. Also the shower was not too good. These points are down to individual tastes and does not take away the lovely stay in Boscastle. We will certainly book this location again.

Right by the harbour, restaurants and pubs. Clean and warm (really effective easy to control heating). The wood burning stove was a real plus and the welcoming milk biscuits and fizz added a nice touch.

  • "Another lovely and relaxing week at Pencliffe and Boscastle."

The more we stay at Pencliffe, the more we want to stay which is why we will be back in December. We had a bit of an out of hours issue towards the end of the week, but the support model offered by the owners and Sykes resolved this; communication was excellent throughout. This, however, did not spoil the relaxing and very cosy time we had there; a walk round the harbour, a meal in the Cobweb then back for a glass of wine in front of the slowly flickering fire just couldn`t be beaten.

  • "Unfortunately the cottage was not clean and also in the back bedroom there was black mold on the wall, so we had to move bedrooms."

Other people in the notebook had made complaints as well on the cleanliness of the cottage and some of the complaints had been torn out of the notebook provided. We think the owners should be aware of the mold.

Thank you for your comments. We're very sorry that Pencliffe was not well presented for your stay. We will definitely discuss your feedback with our housekeeper. We maintain a housekeeper's notebook, and ask guests to assist us to identify minor maintenance issues as we go. This helps us address any issues raised by guests, between changeovers. When issues are dealt with, we ask the housekeeper to sign them off in the book. This has always worked well in the past, however, we will review this process to ensure we continue to maintain the highest possible standards at Pencliffe for all our guests. Thanks again, Penny and John Property Owner

  • "Not even the poor weather could put a damper on the week at Pencliffe."

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. On arrival the cottage was immaculate and we were very grateful to find a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us. The rooms were comfortable, and when the evenings did het a bit chilly we had the joy of the wood burner to keep us toastie. I would wholeheartedly recommend Pencliffe and we shall certainly return.

  • "We enjoyed our stay despite the weather and the cottage is brilliantly located and nice and clean, and well kitted out."

Would recommend leaving a few umbrellas for general use and also perhaps a couple of blankets for use on the beds in warmer evenings, when duvets are too hot.

Thank you for your review. We're very sorry you didn't have good weather whilst in Boscastle, we know how that can affect your stay. We will definitely consider your suggestions, we want everyone to enjoy Boscastle as much as we do. Thank you Property Owner

So full of character! And prime location, close to shops, restaurants, harbour, costal path. We stayed here, 5 of us, in July 22 and we all felt like it exceeded everyone’s expectations. I would go back to Pencliffe tomorrow if I could. First time in Cornwall, a week in fairytale cottage in beautiful Boscastle will never be forgotten. Thank you!

Thank you for the lovely review. We agree the proximity of the cliff to the rear of the cottage makes for a completely unique view, which with the moving sun, at certain times of the day can be quite magical. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely lovely."

We`ve been coming to Boscastle for a number of years and have stayed at various cottages, one of which we had as our favourite (staying there 6 times). We`ve now decided that Pencliffe is our favourite and we will be coming back again this year. The living room is lovely and cosy; we loved settling down on the sofa with a glass of wine – while the fire was flickering away. Bliss. We loved everything about Pencliffe and can`t wait to get back to Boscastle again.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Pencliffe. Boscastle is a wondeful place to spend some time. We love every minute we spend there, and like you can't wait to get back! Property Owner

One problem was no were to hang wet swimwear so also as there for 2 weeks hard to wash and dry cloths area great for walks and surf all in all a good holiday.

I’m glad you had a good holiday. There is a Sheila Maid in the kitchen over the radiator and is a very efficient and there is also a clothes airer under the bed in the downstairs bedroom, we find this adequate for drying clothes. The heaters are all thermostatically controlled and used correctly should provide sufficient background heating, we have provided detailed instructions, in the welcome pack, on how to use them. • "Lovely cottage, however there were some defects such as door handles with screws sticking out and dodgy lights in the living room."

We noticed many other residents had made these same comments in the visitor’s book for several month prior to our stay but nothing had been done to resolve these issues before our stay. Quite dark when inside as cottage is virtually built into the hillside so having the lights on is must if bad weather and when the lights in the Livingroom don’t work it’s very dark inside.

Thanks for your comments. We do provide contact details at the property for our management company who would have been only too happy to help. We were under the impression that this had been dealt with and have already contacted the management company to ensure the handles and lighting are rectified as soon as possible. This quirky property is a 19th century building which is built into the cliff and has a lot of character. There is also occasional lighting at the property to enhance the overhead lights. There is no garden but there is a patio out the front with comfortable furniture and it's a lovely sun trap in the mornings. The cottage was clean, well equipped and comfortably furnished with lots of character and thoughtful touches. There is a well stocked Spar shop two minutes away in the village. The Wellington Hotel is just across the road and we had a lovely meal there. There are other pubs, cafes and a chip shop in the village. There are loads of beautiful coastal and countryside walks accessible from the cottage without having to drive anywhere. We also visited 5 different beaches nearby, the nearest being only a ten minute drive. We would definitely recommend this cottage to families or groups of adults as there are three ample sized double bedrooms. Thank you for a lovely stay.
