"Nice spacious property, well equipped."
Just a short walk from the coastal path and stunning views. Well placed to visit lots of beautiful beaches and attractions. Just worth noting that if you fancy a walk into Mevagissey itself although it's not far it is quite steep coming back. Any issues we did have were dealt with quickly by Poppy who couldn't have been more helpful.

"We had a lovely week, house was easily big enough for the 7 of us (all adults) and two large dogs."
reading some of the previous reviews, we took the kitchenware we thought we would need, but there was enough of everything. house was not so perfect that we felt uncomfortable, but perfect enough for us. I actually loved all the books, the whole place reminded me of holidays when I was younger - couldn't recommend enough. Shame about the weather, and that we had to leave early because of the upcoming storm

"The house has a relaxed feel to it which makes it enjoyable for large groups (there were 8 of us - 3 families and a dog) but the pictures are out of date as Sykes market the property as being modern inside and light and contemporary."
This is not the case at all and the property now appears to be filled with contents from an elderly relatives deceased estate - being 1000s of very old and musty smelling books and dark book cases that are often falling apart. These books have been put everywhere - literally in every space possible - and that includes even in kitchen drawers, meaning that there is only 1 cupboard that can be used in the kitchen for a house that sleeps 9. The property has no drying rack or airer available for clothes, yet it offers a washing machine and tumble dryer. The towels given to guests are also very thin and old and there are no additional ones for the communal areas, like a hand towel in the bathroom. As with the other comments, the house keeper is very helpful and friendly and the property was left clean so in that regard it was good. The house itself would also be good if it was at a price that reflected the condition and the pictures told the true state. It was those two factors against the reality that has caused my disappointment. If the owner spent just a few pounds on a drying rail (as has been suggested by other guests several times) and left some storage (or even bought some more shelving) for the paying guests, then the house would be worth the rental, or possibly even more. There was also an large deep wooden chest full of someones dirty clothes left in the house, presumably the owners. I only opened it whilst looking for a dustpan and brush (also not provided) but I'd suggest to the owner that personal items like these are padlocked.
Thank you for your feedback. As a result, we are getting new, thick towels. There are a lot of books in the house which some guests appreciate. But I agree we should update the photographs to show the bookcases. The
dustpan and brush is under the sink. The drying rack is under the stairs. I'm sorry you had trouble finding them. We will add a note in the guide
book for guests about this. Our housekeeper, Poppy, is always very happy to help guests with such queries. Property Owner

"Cottage has most everything you need for a home away from home stay, although I would recommend a larger indoor airer for those holidaying in the winter months when laundry items can't be tumble dried."
Possibly some larger pots when cooking for a crowd.
However all in all fabulous accommodation needs a bit of tlc here and there but with back to back bookings finding the time is proving difficult I suspect. It didn't detract from our stay and Poppy was extremely helpful would book again.

"Very spacious and well located house."
However, the furnishing is rather tired and the huge volumes of old and dusty books were a little excessive.
During periods of wind and rain, the house is very draughty and the kitchen is particularly cold.
The living room carpet in fact was levitating in response to the high winds which was a unique experience
Thank you for the feedback. I know the wind was exceptionally strong
during your visit. However, we are taking measures to improve the
insulation - including providing curtains for the French windows in
the kitchen. Property Owner

"The property was very nice, clean and provided a good sized living space."
We were a party of 6 adults which worked well, more adults may struggle with the bathroom facilities.
The house is an easy walk to the town with it’s numerous pubs and restaurants, but the return is up a very steep hill, which may cause problems for those less able.
The welcome pack of basic essentials was very helpful.
The Eden project is a short drive and the Lost Gardens if Heligan a 40 minute walk.

"House may be much better in the summer but as a winter stay it needs some upgrading."
As it was cold and windy the front door didn’t do much to keep the draught out. My son & partner have a 5 month old so had the master bedroom, the wind was blowing the window that rattled & the curtains were moving which kept the baby awake. It could be a lovely house but needs upgrading. The electric also cut off on the Saturday morning & after a few phone calls was sorted but overall the holiday was spoilt.

"Penare house was as described, very spacious, comfortable and well equipped."
However the house in general needs some maintenance, there is obviously a leak in the roof and as a consequence there are damp patches throughout. Also some of the cooking equipment needs renewing ie frying pans.
Thank you for the feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Penare House. We will
get a new frying pan and hope you would agree that the kitchen supplies are extensive and of good quality. There wasn't actually a leak in the roof but our builder has treated the damp patches. The climate in Cornwall does make this a perennial problem in period houses. We are pleased that despite the points raised you aenjoyed your stay. Property Owner

"To be fair, we weren’t misled, but made assumptions about accessibility of bathrooms and that the house was suitable for nine adults."
There was a huge disparity between the master suite and all of the other bedrooms. I’m sure it’s fine for families with small children but not for adults all of whom had paid the same rate.
We had a problem with the boiler which was fixed immediately.
We would have appreciated rinse aid and salt for dishwasher, more toilet rolls and washing powder but perhaps this is to be expected.
All in all, if the welcome pack had included these items it would have been appreciated.
Thank you for the feedback. While all the bedrooms are generously sized it is quite true that the bedroom with the four poster is the largest. We provide "all in one" tablets for the dishwasher and so salt and rinse aid are not required. While we do provide washing powder and lavatory paper - as well as dishwasher tables - guests will sometimes need top up on supplies during their stay Property Owner

"I wasn't too sure how I would find Penare and was delighted that it exceeded my expectations."
I was very spacious and despite it being the end of November it was toasty warm. It is at the top of the hill so it is a very good work out to get home after going to Mevagissey if you are pushing a pram! It does have parking, which is a treat in Mevagissey. It was a fun house for a two and three year old who were confident on stairs.
Poppy could not have been more helpful and welcoming.
Really enjoyed it and would stay here again.

"The house was great in general except the heating in the top three rooms didn't work, they were very cold ."
And as the weather down in Cornwall was very cold and windy with lots of snow from Sunday the !8th which remained for two days, those three rooms couldn't be used, in fact we didn't bother to use them as they were so cold. bit of a waste really. The front bedroom with the four poster and the living room were so draftee from around the windows I had to go round all four windows stuffing the gaps with newspaper to cut the draft, once I had completed this the two front rooms warmed up nicely. Unfortunately there was nothing to be done to reduce the draft through the front door. The rest of the house was fine and the log fire was great, although we did get through some logs.
We would return to Penare House but only during the summer months.
