  • "Well presented cottage with a good level of amenities including a well equipped kitchen."

Great quality beds and showers, very comfortable. We visited to spend time with family who live in the village but also had nice days out. No issues parking for us, also used the great bus service and trains from Redruth. Couple of minor issues, the addition of a handrail on the stairs would be helpful , especially for night time trips to the downstairs loo. Sleep was often broken by the church bells opposite chiming every hour, as lovely as they are, it took me a full week to adjust to them . Having some recycling bags to put out with the rubbish would also be good. I bought some smaller mugs (left them there for others) as the gorgeous ones supplied were too much for myself and mother in law. The vacuum cleaner was very smelly when I tried using it, the bag was full to bursting , with no other bags supplied. We also found on our first morning that both bathroom sinks and the wet room drain were blocked so they didn't drain. I couldn't understand how cleaners had not noticed this ? Cleared them and purchased drain unblockers which seemed to do the job. We have stayed in a few cottages in the village over the years and this is by far the nicest .

Thank you for your feedback. It seems the recently new vacuum cleaner had somehow been exposed to water and has been disposed of. We have had the drain checked and are looking into the possibility of fitting a handrail on the top section of the staircase. Thank you for leaving the mid-sized mugs, we have now added to these. We hope you will stay with us again next year. Property Owner

  • "Good location for exploring Cornwall, beautiful facilities, very clean and a nice size property."

Parking was available in a near by street just a short walk away, no guarantee of parking outside the property. The welcome pack “cream tea”, etc and biscuit's / equipment for our dog Daisy was much appreciated. The only thing missing was a bottle opener, there is a mini supermarket and pharmacy within a short walk, the church clock was a reminder of the time!

Glad you enjoyed your stay at Carew House Cottage. Thank you for the heads-up about the bottle opener, now supplied. Property Owner

About the location

ST DAY

Porthtowan 5 miles; Portreath 6 miles; Truro 7 miles; St Ives 20 miles; Falmouth 10 miles.

St Day was originally named after the little known Saint Day or Dye (better known in Brittany). The village now has a pub and convenience store, as well as a granite, gothic-style church dating back to 1828. Six miles away is the popular village of Portreath which attracts visitors from around the world with its wild and rugged coastline. High cliffs, secluded coves and sandy, surf-washed beaches typify the area while all around are reminders of the area's rich industrial heritage. Portreath offers a small fishing harbour, shops, a number of pubs, three cafés and a Chinese takeaway, while its safe, sheltered sandy beach is a popular attraction. For a great day out, visit the cathedral city of Truro with its cobbled streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum and great restaurants, just 7 miles away, or travel a few miles along the coast to Gwithian and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach, which leads down to Hayle and on to St Ives. A delightful holiday location.
