  • "Para Sands wonderful long beach, Lifeguards on duty, toilet, cafe and bar facilities."

    Great property location with excellent views. House was spacious and very well equipped to a high standard. Biggest negative was the grass lawn was totally dead, looks like it had been sprayed killed, leaving an expanse of bare soil. Nowhere for children to play and meant dirt was carried on shoes into the house, fortunately we had little rain or could have been a mud bath! Minor niggles were only a small clothes horse to dry wet beachwear, no tumble dryer. No BBQ.

We are thrilled you enjoyed the spacious house, the high standard of equipment, and our excellent location near the beach. We sincerely appreciate your honesty regarding the areas where we can improve. Please rest assured that the issue with the lawn is a priority for us; due to a busy schedule of back-to-back bookings, we are currently working hard to coordinate timings to get a specialist in to lay the new lawn as soon as possible. We are also in the process of adding a BBQ for guest use, alongside installing additional outside hangers specifically for drying wet clothes and wetsuits. Regarding a tumble dryer, we unfortunately do not have the extra physical space required for a standalone unit. We did research a combined washer-dryer, but found they are prone to breaking down quickly, and we want to ensure all provided appliances remain reliable. Thank you again for helping us to improve. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back to Para Sands in the future. Property Owner

  • "This was a great find on Sykes website."

    We were blown away by the sea views and the property was stylish, comfortable and immaculate. The location was perfect. A pleasant walk with the dog down to beautiful, sandy Praa Sands (we visited in Oct half-term). The kids enjoyed surfing, with kit hired from the surf shop (lessons were also available) and when it got too choppy a trip to nearby St Ives where it was calmer. We used the local bus (convenient stop at bottom of Trewelloe Road), taxi and trains from Penzance, to get around most of the week as two of our party had arrived by train. It definitely added to the enjoyment. The local Welloe restaurant on the beach served the best squid, with a great service and dogs welcome. I have to mention the speedy wifi, which was greatly appreciated, especially by the teenagers. It was a memorable stay, enjoyed by all of us. We strongly recommend.

The property

Shearwater is a striking coastal retreat resting in Praa Sands, Cornwall, just a short stroll from the golden sweep of Praa Sands Beach.

With off-road parking for three cars, sweeping sea views, a brand new interior, super-fast fibre broadband, and a flexible layout that includes ground-floor bedrooms and a shower room, this is a fine choice for families or groups of friends looking to experience Cornwall from a well-placed base near The Lizard Heritage Coast.

Arrive to the scent of salt in the air and the sight of Mount’s Bay unfolding beyond the windows, then step inside to discover a bright, high-spec interior shaped by clean lines, sleek finishes, and a carefully chosen coastal palette.

The kitchen and dining space form the heart of the home, where streamlined fittings and generous light create an inviting setting for everything from slow breakfasts to sociable suppers after a day on the sand.

A wide opening leads into the sitting room, where the woodburning stove brings added character on cooler evenings and broad windows keep the sea in view throughout the day.

From here, doors open onto a private patio, creating an easy flow between inside and out for morning coffee, evening drinks, and time spent watching the changing light across the water.

The sleeping arrangements are thoughtfully planned for mixed groups, with two ground-floor bedrooms including a king-size and a super-king-size that can also be arranged as a twin.

Head to Porthleven for time around its historic harbour and dramatic shoreline, or venture onto the Lizard Peninsula to explore striking coves and cliffside scenery.

For culture and sea views combined, Tate St Ives and the Minack Theatre both make memorable days out.

However you choose to spend your time on this stretch of the Cornish coast, Shearwater makes a superb base to return to.

PRAA SANDS

Marazion 4.5 miles ; Helston 6 miles ; Porthleven 5 miles

The village of Praa Sands sits on the south coast in between Helston and Marazion. Praa Sands is known for its mile-long sandy beach and excellent surfing conditions. There is a bar/restaurant overlooking the beach – the perfect spot for lunch with a view or sunset drinks. Praa Sands is also home to a Golf and Country Club, from where the most wonderful sea vista can be enjoyed whilst you play. Just inland from the beach is Pengersick Castle, the tower of which dates back to the 16th century. It is said that Pengersick is haunted, and that the ghost of a monk has been seen wandering the grounds! The house at Pengersick is rumoured to be the birth place of John Carter, the self styled King of Prussia and a tunnel which leads from the house to the beach was apparently once used by smugglers. There are supermarkets and other retail stores in Penzance (8 miles) and Helston (6 miles).
